Mayfair Country Club
About
Opened in 1922, Mayfair Country Club is one of the oldest golf courses in Florida and it's still the only course in the historic city of Sanford. Over the years, it has hosted a number of famous players including Sam Snead and Arnold Palmer. The layout is wide open with a traditional design that is player friendly enough to appeal to novices and experienced golfers alike. Like most older course designs, the fairways are wide but the approaches aren't very forgiving. Water hazards come into play on over half of the holes and you might be surprised by a few subtle but tricky elevation changes. Mayfair Country Club is not a formidable test by any means, but there are a few challenging holes that will make you think.

Short on carts
Had to wait for cart for 30 minutes. Then cart broke down in middle of the round. Green is good and staff is friendly.
Visiting Orlando
I’m a 90’s score player as well as my brother in law. We wanted to hang out and play 18 and not break the bank. This was a fun course and was the right amount of challenge for our level of play. No frills but we didn’t need any.
Not in good shape
First, they don’t prefer single golfers. I get there waited for a group to join starter tells me go out. I ask is there a group I can join he says no puts me behind a 3 some. I reach first green and see a 2 some teeing off behind me. What happened to no other groups? Pace was slow as can be. They pride on their greens and they were not in great shape. Lots of patch’s. Don’t have a bad back on their cart paths. They hosted a college tournament don’t know how. My thing is if you don’t want singles make the tee times 2-4 players instead of offering one player.
Very good value and conditions.
Excellent greens and tee boxes. Overall course conditions very good. A few single players behind us that we let play through. Would have been nice if they paired up singles but overall a great day and would return immediately.
Great course to play
I have played Mayfair a few times previously and always felt it was a good value. However, today was by far the best! Their greens were phenomenal and overall the course was is really good shape. If you have a chance to play, do yourself a favor and do so. Great value and course.
old school
This is a nice old school course...fairly easy with wide fairways, limited sand traps and nice oak trees. There is some water to fly over but not much and there are shorter tees that mostly avoid it all together. Carts are gas so noisey and some have no wind shields and holes in the seats.
Decent for one time play
It’s a decent course but could use better signage. Fairways were not maintained. Greens were true. Friendly staff.
Classic Donald Ross Design
Mayfair C.C. has the trademark Donald Ross domed greens. It also has subtle elevation changes, which are unusual for central Florida.
The pace of play was fast on the front nine, but was slooooow on the back. A marshal came out and made a slow foursome skip a hole to speed things up, but we still caught them 3 holes later.
The bermuda greens were in pretty good shape, as were the fairways. The course is a little rough around the edges as far as manicuring goes, but is worth a look, especially if you like the challenge of a Donald Ross design.
FairwayKid
The course was in pretty good shape, a couple greens were kinda rough. The pace of play was a little slow, there was a 5 some in front of our 2 some. But overall a fun round of golf.
Zero respect for people’s tee times
We were the first tee time of the day and by hole 3 we already had to wait for a group to let us go through because they decided to start on hole 3. In hole 9 we had to wait for a guy because he was using the green of 9 as the practice green. By hole 10 some people decided to start on the back 9 instead of waiting for their tee time on hole 1. We had to wait every hole because they never let us play through. You either hire a starter so people obey the tee times and hole start or you charge less. Overprice course. The only good thing they have is their greens, one of the best ones for a public course. But I will definitely not come back.
