Mayfair Country Club
About
Opened in 1922, Mayfair Country Club is one of the oldest golf courses in Florida and it's still the only course in the historic city of Sanford. Over the years, it has hosted a number of famous players including Sam Snead and Arnold Palmer. The layout is wide open with a traditional design that is player friendly enough to appeal to novices and experienced golfers alike. Like most older course designs, the fairways are wide but the approaches aren't very forgiving. Water hazards come into play on over half of the holes and you might be surprised by a few subtle but tricky elevation changes. Mayfair Country Club is not a formidable test by any means, but there are a few challenging holes that will make you think.

Course Needs Work
The greens were great. The fairways and cart paths need work. No beverage cart. Pace was great, no one in front and no one pushing. The course is open, therefore forgiving if you slice or hook a shot.
Public Potholes
Mayfair CC is a historic old public course in a good area. The staff is great. Super friendly and helpful. Greens are beautiful and the course layout is fun to play. Fairways could use a little attention, but they play fair. My biggest issue with the overall experience is the horrific condition of the cart paths around the tee boxes and greens. Come on Sanford...put some love into this little gem. Either way, it’s a great value as it is and I’ll be back.
Greens rolling fast
I just like this course. Greens roll true and fast. fairways are in good condition. When you get off the fairways the grass is sparse so you need to roll it over but the price is great so no complaints.
.
Sand traps hard & tee boxes need some help. Fairways ok & greens good. Great value for the money.
Great for the Price
The conditions are a little off of their normal but it is probably due to the transitional time of year. Still good though.
My only complaint was 2 5-somes in front of us that wouldn't let people thru. It wasn't a busy day but ended up taking about 4.5 hours.
One of my favorites
I have played this course several times on different days of the week. It is challenging on a few holes and an overall pleasure to play. The employees are very friendly and helpful. The course is in great shape and I will continue to golf here.
Fun to play
Mayfair is an older course that hosted a PGA event in the late 50’s. It is not an extremely long course and it is ideal for Seniors and beginners, while still being interesting for any golfer. The course is not “pristine”, but it is good enough. I played in 3 hours, while having to wait on the last 4 holes. If in the area, try it out.
Much improved
I have played this course for years. I must say the greens are the best I've seen in a long time. The fairways are vastly improved , they have really turned this place around from last summer.
Now. If they would just put in some cart paths and fix the woopdedoos they have in places that will launch you half way out of the cart they will really have something.
Built In 1923
The age of the course really shows. No course improvements have been made since 1923. The original cart paths are still in place but now they have huge potholes that non course patrons fish in. He clientele is rude. On the tee box my twosome heard very loud talking and laughing as we were hitting our tee shots. The starter is useless. He did nothing to quieten the crowd. I will never go back under any circumstances except if Mayfair turns out to be hades and I don’t make it to heaven.
Cart path blues....
Mayfair has plenty of good things going for it but there are areas for improvement too. We used to play this course periodically years ago and it has improved since. The fairways aren't to write home about but the greens are better than they once were. Like reviews before mine have attested to, weekday rounds in the afternoon can be a bit frustrating because they sometimes start sending people out on the back 9. I played here two weeks in a row (once Tuesday at 2:57 and once Wednesday at 10:30) and both times there were some slow downs because of this. I would call before booking to ask about what they have going on that particular day or afternoon. As long as you are not in a rush though it is a small price to pay for playing a historic Ross course. Two things I don't understand however are rough tee boxes and poor cart paths. The former is an easy fix that most courses get right and the latter seems to be the last thing golf clubs want to invest in. They fail to realize that many golfers in our area, unlike me, are seniors who appreciate smooth sailing as opposed to heart jolting bumps or mysteriously disappearing pathways.
Mayfair is an old Donald Ross design and it's noticable. Greens right now are in good shape along with the fairways. Get off the fairways though and things get hairy.
They had a glow ball event the evening I played and by the time I played the front 9 they had started sending groups off the back 9 for whatever reason and there were 6 groups on 10 when I got there. Likely won't play late in the afternoon again or mid-late morning for that matter anymore.
Mayfair -Best value for course
Staff extremely friendly and professional. From pro shop staff to starter to cart gents.. always a pleasure .. challenging but not overwhelming.. . Highly recommend
Course good, staff POOR
Fairways and greens are in good shape. Greens fast. Rough was not in good shape. Cart paths bad as well. Played Sat afternoon. Seems the staff doesn’t like to let people know that there is a tournament and a skins game going on. And when you ask why they say it’s a public course. Don’t know what that has to do with anything. Courtesy would be nice. 5 hour rounds are not fun. Course is in good shape it’s why I gave it a 3 stars.
course has a rich history
greens really good, fairways not overseeded,.tees need work...cart paths in terrible condition..Staff extremely courteous and friendly..
Great, but terrible cart paths
Love this course and they are very friendly in front. I've played here twice and it was fun both times. They really need to do something about the cart paths though. Wicked bumpy...other than that its great!
Had an awesome time at Mayfair golf club met a great gentleman from the area mr. Robert I want to thank you for showing me a good time around the course
