Mayfair Country Club
About
Opened in 1922, Mayfair Country Club is one of the oldest golf courses in Florida and it's still the only course in the historic city of Sanford. Over the years, it has hosted a number of famous players including Sam Snead and Arnold Palmer. The layout is wide open with a traditional design that is player friendly enough to appeal to novices and experienced golfers alike. Like most older course designs, the fairways are wide but the approaches aren't very forgiving. Water hazards come into play on over half of the holes and you might be surprised by a few subtle but tricky elevation changes. Mayfair Country Club is not a formidable test by any means, but there are a few challenging holes that will make you think.

Pleasantly Surprised!
I have been playing Mayfair on and off over the last 20 years. It's convenient and an interesting layout but I have learned to expect not-great conditions. This time I found the course to be in the best shape I have ever seen it. Obvious signs of improvement and continuing work being done. Still some rough areas but definitely playable! Glad to see the improvements!
I like this course
They had verti cut the greens somewhat recently and the ball rand in the grooves...three of us and we maybe made three putts outside of 10 feet...I like this old school course and play it fairly often...just had some putting problems today
Disappointed
I've played Mayfair for 25 years. Today on hole 15 an employee of Mayfair told us we would need to leave the hole and go to the front to make up. They were having a skins game and we would be in the way. Not cool at all. I am going to complain to the manager about this as well. Also the employee was playing in said game..
Condition good, on course staff unprofessional
Starter/cart staffer is rude, doesn't like singles, and apparently in a rush to close up on a Friday night. I booked a 5:10 tee time on a Friday night, no one on the front but was told to go on the back. Was asked if I was playing 18 and I told him I planned on getting in as many holes as I could since I paid for 18 holes. The staffer seemed to have a problem with that by the tone of his voice and line of questioning. Ended up going off the front after I asked him again with a reply of "go wherever you want". There were no other players behind me or in front so I was playing fast. On the 6th hole the staffer starts picking up flags behind me...apparently in a rush to close up. This obviously throws off your game and makes you feel rushed, there was no reason for it. Do not sell tee times in the afternoons if you are going to rush players off the course. The staffer ended up doing the same thing to a group behind me on the back 9. On the 17th hole the group came up behind me and made some disparaging remarks about the staffer and then proceeded to leave. I was apparently not the only one he was giving a hard time too. I play the course weekly and this particular staff member always seems to have a problem if I show up as a single. If it is that big of a deal do not allow people to book as singles. I have no problem being grouped with others. Next time this happens I will be speaking with management.
Mayfair is in Great Shape
It has been a few years since I played Mayfair. I must say they have the course in great shape. The greens were very consistent and rolled nicely. Fairways were good and even the bunkers were nice. I will definitely put Mayfair back in my regular list. The layout is an old Florida layout with some very challenging holes. The one thing I noticed were the green were very hard on approach shots. I was impressed.
Late afternoon golf
Late afternoon golf was great. There was barely anyone playing. The weather was dry and pleasant with a breeze. The greens were nice, not too fast or slow, just right.
It is a nice way to end the weekend.
Fantastic Improvement!!
I've played this course for decades and right now the greens are in the best condition in years. They are very smooth and receptive. Kudos to the greens keeper. The fairways are in pretty good shape with a few rough areas here and there. The staff are very friendly and the price to play, eat and drink is very affordable. I highly recommend you play Mayfair once again.
Greens were great
We Teed off early so the pace was great. The course drained well from all the rain. The greens were in excellent shape. Fast thru the first nine then slowed up during the second nine. Even though there were tree lines the course is mainly wide open so scoring should be better. I like that they have 5 tee boxes. My friend's first time there and he enjoyed it.
Value
This is an interesting older course that used to be used as a PGA tour stop in the 50’s. It is not the best of shape, but it is very playable. Also, the cost is quite reasonable, so there is no reason not to try this course.
Mayfair-Excellent and affordable Golf
Anytime you can play on a course that has hosted a PGA tournament for a great price ..Sign Me Up, The course is in very good condition and the Pro Shop staffers are extremely friendly.. recommend highly .. Today I booked golf with my dad, we got a Hot Deal from Golfnow.. best investment I ever made.. and even better if your a VIP member..todays round for 18 holes with cart was 14$ per player...
Great greens
Solid set up and great price. If you don't mind a few iffy fairways and tee boxes, the greens are without a doubt the nicest in town.
Grand old course
I have played this course for many years. The greens are in the best condition in the last 10 years. Cart paths need help. The live oaks make for some interesting challenges. All in all it is a great course to play.
Interesting Course
This is an old course that hosted a PGA tournament in the ‘50s. It is not the best maintained, but is very playable. It is not a long course, and if you pick the right tees, it can reward good play and also be fun for any level of play. I recommend you trying out this course, and you will end up playing it more times, as I have. Enjoy.
