Mayfair Country Club
About
Opened in 1922, Mayfair Country Club is one of the oldest golf courses in Florida and it's still the only course in the historic city of Sanford. Over the years, it has hosted a number of famous players including Sam Snead and Arnold Palmer. The layout is wide open with a traditional design that is player friendly enough to appeal to novices and experienced golfers alike. Like most older course designs, the fairways are wide but the approaches aren't very forgiving. Water hazards come into play on over half of the holes and you might be surprised by a few subtle but tricky elevation changes. Mayfair Country Club is not a formidable test by any means, but there are a few challenging holes that will make you think.

Same ole Mayfair.
I've played Mayfair many times that last umpteen years. This was the first time in over a year. It was about the same. Greens were good, fairways ok and rough was short and sandy. The cart paths were horrible not improved a bit since I was last there, maybe worse. I love the design and it is a challenge for a short knock like me to reach some of the greens in regulation. So we played and had fun. Can't really recommend it though. The rough needs more grass, as does some of the fairway. Cart paths slow pace down a bit too.
Good Saturday Round
Course is shaping up after finally draining from hurricane Irma. Greens in pretty good shape and pace of play on a Saturday was good. Fairways had been over seeded about a week ago so some fairways and tee boxes had patches of newly springing grass. Overall happy with the price and conditions.
Value
This is a old style course with very interesting holes. The condition is average, but the greens are good. It is lots of fun to play and the price is right!
Needs TLC
Cart paths are the worse in Florida, no range to practice, apparently the net to protect the parking has been down since September but does not get fixed, 4th hole in extremely bad condition with mud everywhere, destroyed fairway, tree down blocking the cart path (all from hurricane), but Mayfair still charges a price as though in good conditions. Most of the tee boxes, fairways and greens need repair.
Needs work
The course is still feeling the effects of Irma. A lot of water on non waterhole holes and debris on many holes. Fairways are good but the greens have been better.
Just another golf course….
Played it in spring for the first time and it was rather a good experience. But this time I was really disappointed. The pace was very slow, there were several five some in front of us – was told they’ve had a skin game out there. The course is rather short and does not have real challenges, except the wind we’ve had today. Tee boxes are not well attended; some have bold spots or too high grass. Fairways are just playable but have spots with no or little grass too – and are partly still very wet with lateral water (reminder form hurricane and the rainy days…). Bunkers are good. Greens rather not fast and some spots with little grass too. The worth thing is the condition of the cart path, mostly is the concrete broken and the drive with the cart is very “shaky” or you have to drive aside of the path on grass, but it is very uneven there too. Staff is friendly.
Overall – I actually would not recommend it in these conditions, but if you need to go some place for a cheap round and have problems to find a tee time, it is better than nothing…
Greens good
Starter put locals shootout group on top of us on back nine we had to basically leave back nine replay the front not good bad policy shoot out group let us know they kinda run the course ,,!!!!!!!!!
Nice course, great staff
First time playing this historic course. Staff was extremely friendly and informative, giving us a short talk on some of the history here. Course is very forgiving and open, which is good for a novice golfer such as me. Only issue is that there is still a lot of water from the hurricanes and following rains pooled up on many of the fairways. It is playable but you have an extra set of hazards in many of the fairways due to the slow drainage. Otherwise a fun place to play.
Our trip up the I4
This is a really lovely course. The greens are in very good condition and run true. The cart tracks are in need of repair but that did not in any way detract from our enjoyment. Would recommend this course.
Fun little course
The course is still holding on to some water with all the rain we have been having. Some really wet spots you will have to navigate around, but over all, the course is in good condition.
The range is still not open as they are waiting for the city to repair the nets the block the balls going into the parking lot.
Pace of play was pretty good, first three holes moved slow and then things sped up. Round came in under four hours.
The course is a great value if you can find a Hotdeal.
Soggy
Old style pga tour course. Narrow fairways, blind shots, elevation changes that you normally don’t see in central Florida. Fantastic layout. Still has much clean up to be done from hurricane irma. #12 was very soggy, we chose not to play that particular fairway.
Needs to dry out some! But all in all we enjoyed ourselves
Good little practice course
Great for getting a practice round in, good pace, you will use every club in your bag.
Greens roll well.
Some of the Best Greens Around
The course had some trees down from the hurricane a few weeks ago and with the amount of rain we have had over the past month there are some holes that are soggy and the lakes are full. All to be expected though.
Overall the course is in good condition and the greens are really some of the best I have played in the area. This is an old course that deserves more recognition.
Nice little city course
This is a nice course, some challenging holes . Usually in better shape, but the hurricane was rough on it. Still recommend playing, but not more than $25.00 until course is repaired from storm.
Fun
Course has changed from hurricane Irma. Small and large puddles but it made the course more fun. Greens were fine.
