Stoneybrook West Golf Course
About
Designed by Arthur Hills Stoneybrook West is a roaming blend of gutsy, penal holes, picturesque par threes over water, reachable par fives (527 and 522 yards from the tips, then 578 and 605), and several short, sporty par fours that cover all corners of the site. Dramatically rolling fairways salted with Hills' trademark grass-faced bunkers, subtle elevation changes and undulating greens were all artfully carved out of native orange groves, overlooking Black Lake. Water comes into play on 12 holes; you'll find all 18 are distinctly different, challenging and memorable.
For those visiting the Orlando area, particularly the Disney World complex, Stoneybrook West is just a matter of minutes up the road to the north. For those who frequent the Orlando golf circuit, Stoneybrook West is a course that must be seen to be measured against the other name courses.

Reviews
Not a $60 course
Someone else wrote that it’s a $35 course in its current shape and I agree 100%. It reminds me of Metro West - not so much employing a greenskeeper as much as a landscape crew. The greens are ok but no one is caring for the mowers, the grass is gouged 3” wide across several greens, it’s just Busch league and until they elevate the quality of the course back to what it was before closing, it’s a round you’ll enjoy ONLY if you pay less than $40 and you’re very accurate, if you can find a ball in this rough you’re an Eagle Scout,
Not Ready
We were quite surprised that the course was not in good condition. The rough was so long, lost a few balls in the thick.
We were there the day before they officially closed but back then the course was actually in great shape. Harding $60 for this condition is a joke! Come Stoney Brook get our home course back in shape, and reduce price until you do
Not ready to play
There were a bunch of new reviews on here but they all got taken off somehow . This course was abandoned for many years . They tried to reopen it without getting the course ready . It has great potential but is not a $60 Florida course , maybe $35 until they get it up to condition . Skip it unless you really want to play the course . Also the photos of course do not appear to be current , they are from prior before course was abandoned.
Worst course I have ever played
This course looked like someone took a mower and cut out a golf course layout on a piece of property in a weed conservation area. If you want dead grass, mud, golf cart tracks through weed infested greens and fairways, then this is the place for you. I am a sub-par golfer and welcome average course conditions because I don’t feel bad if I take a big divot. Here, you would never know. This whole place is a divot surrounded by weeds. They should have never opened the doors. And, they charged us 60 dollars to play!!!! They should have paid us
Horrible doesn’t sum it up
First off, this course was rushed to be open. It is not worth 60 dollars and that’s not even the bad part. We had the first tee time of the day. Any golfer who wakes up early and books the first tee time on a Saturday is not trying to play a longer round. We were told we were going to be paired up so we didn’t get slowed down by mowers. Okay, that’s fine. We didn’t see one mower on the course. We played the front nine as a foursome in 1:30 hours, on pace for 3 hours. We made the turn to have a foursome on the 10th tee box, a foursome in the fairway, and a foursome on the green. The back 9 took 2:30 hours. The “owner” drove by and asked how pace was on the back and when we complained, he said we should be happy to play a four hour round. He told us that he could do whatever he wanted with his course and can put his members wherever he wanted. Zero apology. Zero customer service. He then proceeded to blame us for wanting to play quickly and was not friendly about it at all. As we finished, he happened to drive by again and offered us a beer on him. Do not give your money to this place. It’s not just a one time thing. I also played on the first day this place opened (7am tee time) and made the turn as a single to have 6 foursomes in front of me on the back 9. The owner is greedy and doesn’t know how to run a golf course or take responsibility for his actions.
Honesty
I hope with this review you can form your own opinion, and take with it what you wish. My group teed off at 7am this morning, was told immediately to stay with our group and wait to tee off “right at 7” due to mowers still working. All is fine with that, all about respect, but a near 3 minutes later we are told by the starter that it was not due to mowers but rather a shotgun start tournament, this is where things go downhill. We teed off at 6:59, and were stopped mid rotation to let a single member go through who was only playing 9, again not an issue we never saw him again, but it is the premise…why not put him on the back when you have a full four at 7 booked. We finish front nine in 1:38 and make the turn to not one, not two, but three foursomes in front of us. This was not a shotgun start tournament, this was a bogus attempt at letting members just shell out whenever they please. Golf courses have members, and non members respect that. Priority does not mean priority to play the course at any time but ability to book priority tee times and have first availability when walking on A TEE TIME. We finished the round in 4:10 and could have bee done in 3 hours and 16 min at pace of front. Rewarding your pace setters on first tee time of the day with waiting on holes? Not a good way to run a golf course for repeat non-community business. The tournament for today listed on their site is for juniors, I saw zero juniors and solely men over 50. Conditions are abysmal, only okay part comes from the greens and tricky layout. Just an all around horrible experience and we will most likely not be back. Luckily, the other twosome playing with us today also felt the same, and were the only reason we didn’t leave after 9
Will be great again
Greens are good. For being closed for 5 years it’s already better than 70% of courses in Orlando.
Dont waste your money. WAIT FOR IMPROVEMENTS.
I'm very happy sbw has reopened, but when i went to play, i was very disappointed. Fairways are terrible. Landscaping is terrible. Muddy everywhere. plenty of crab grass and weeds around greens. Course needs a lot of work. I think they reopened too early. The worst part , I paid $52.00 for that crap. Management became defensive when i expressed my concerns.
Goat Ranch
Charged $50 to play this course that just Re-opened. The greens and tee boxes were decent, but already starting to get weed growth. The fairways were horrendous. Patches of dirt throughout, weeds everywhere, hard to tell fairways from rough. Any area that is not a green or tee box is completely unkept, looks like the course doesn’t own a weed eater or edger. I can’t believe they opened this course in this condition. When we expressed our displeasure, especially for the price, staff disagreed saying they thought the course is in good shape. Worst course I e played in metro Orlando.
Terrible
The course recently reopened and was done prematurely. It needs another 6 months or more of solid improvements to achieve acceptable playable standards. I was very disappointed.
Work in progress
Lot of bare spots on fairways and tees. Rough is extra thick. Greens were decent and pace was great.
Need To Wait
Need to wait a few months before playing Stoneybrook West. Fairways, tee boxes and rough need much work; on a scale of 1-10 perhaps a 5. Green are a 6
Golf Fees much too high for the course conditions.
I have played Stoneybrook West Golf many times over the past 20 years and the conditions today are far from good. The tee time fee of $60 is way too much for a course in these poor conditions. The greens are in the best condition because they are new, but are showing signs of neglect. The fairways are in such poor condition it is difficult to play iron shots without rolling the ball. The rough is rough mostly weeds and goose grass. I think you should give it a try and see for yourself but get the lowest possible rate you can.
Too expensive for the conditions.!
The course was a gem 5+ years ago - definitely not the case now. The fairways are cut unevenly, the first cut is roo high, with grass cngs and debris/garbase present.
Surprised they opened this back up in these conditions
Course needs some serious work still! Definitely should have not opened to the public in these conditions. Greens are somewhat decent, rest of it looks like a run down course.
Bathrooms at the clubhouse have mold on the ceiling.
Not what I expected for a re-opening
Don't waste your money yet
I anxiously awaited the re-opening of this course as I used to really enjoy it before it closed. For $60 I expected it to be at least somewhat back to its old glory. Wow was I disappointed in the conditions. It really was like a cow pasture in many areas. Bits of fairway interspersed with weeds and dirt. The rough was ROUGH - and I don't mean that it a good way. It was fully of weeks, patchy areas, and overgrowth in places. The greens were not horrible, but bumpy for sure.
Visually it needs a lot of work. When I pay $60 to play somewhere I expect it to be at least fairly well manicured and look nice around the tee boxes, etc.
I will say that the practice areas look nice and the staff was very nice. However, I won't be back anytime soon. Maybe I'll try it again in 6 months or so and see if it has improved.
It's back, and it's coming together
This was the first golf course I ever played 10+ years ago and it's great that it's back.
The greens complexes and greens themselves look great. Tee boxes are in good shape. The first 5 fairways are also in pretty good shape. There are fairways that need a lot of work, but the grass that is growing is looking strong. This tells me they have the right mix of water, fertilizer, and mowing and they should fill out decently as the growing season still has another couple of months here.
Greens were a little firm and I did have to wait on greens mowers a few times, but that's to be expected when you play at 7am.
The layout here is awesome. Challenging without using only length as the test. There's water on a lot of holes, good risk/reward holes, and still good scoring opportunities. Beware of OB too.
They do need a day with 10 guys using weed wackers. There is a lot of growth on cart paths and tall weeds around, but that can be fixed easily.
Give it a shot. Don't expect perfection because it's clearly still a work in progress. But look at the greens and I think you'll see the potential the fairways have.
Really? Played there today and although I love the layout, it was pretty much like a cow pasture. I definitely would NOT have even given it GOOD for conditions. I hope that over time it will improve.
