RedTail Golf Club
About
Atypical of many Florida golf courses, RedTail Golf Club is a links-style layout dotted with 100-year-old oak trees and azaleas among its rolling green fairways. Designed by Dave Harman, who also did Shingle Creek Golf Club in Orlando, the course features four lakes with water coming into play on the last five holes. Holes 14-18 work their way around the largest lake on the course, while the finishing hole's approach shot plays over another body of water in front of the clubhouse. Located in rural Sorrento a little more than a half hour north of Orlando, RedTail Golf Club prides itself on catering to "members only."

What a disappointment
This was one of the best courses in the area, key word there being was.. I do not know what happened , but while the layout is awesome. The greens were the worst I have ever played on Most of them had no grass, and were punched. Your ball on putts would bounce all the way to the hole. One put bounce at least 2 inches in the air. So disappointing as this was one of the beast layouts in central Florida. The staff did not seem to care. My partner went to the pro shop after our round to complain, and he was give the excuse that Golf now had a big star on the site explaining the site, . He said this between bites of his food. If you book a hot deal on GN, there is no notation about the condition of the greens. It will be a while before I return to this course. Such a shame it is in this condition.
Greens
The worst green I have played in years! The need to tell people before they pay. They are better off breeding cows. Would have love to had a picture to post.
Greens
The worst greens that you can play in central florida at this time. They should let you know how the greens are before you make the decision to drive an hour from the orlando area. They would make more money as a cow farm then a golf course.
Terrible greens
Greens are the worst I have ever seen them. Even the guy taking money in clubhouse said the greens sucked but he still charged us $58.00 not even worth it. Then they tell youkeep the receipt and they'd give you bounce back for $30 it's not worth it you can't use the bounce back after 12:00 on weekends. What a joke.
The Greens are gone!
This used to be one of my favorite courses. Great layout and outstanding clubhouse. Staff is always friendly and helpful.
But and this is a big BUT, the greens have no grass and that’s all 18 greens. The fairways are below average. Very sad to see this course go downhill.
We have played this.course a few times even though it is 55 minute drive. and have always enjoyed it.. The layout is great and challenging. The downside right now is that the greens have been hit hard with a fungus and don’t even resemble a putting surface. But other parts of the course show some neglect as well. It’s so bad they are offering a $39 special a day for all you can play.
What happened to RedTail?
This was previously our favorite course in central Florida. We had not played there since last Spring. The course is in HORRIBLE shape. The greens are terrible and there's no real reason to even try to put a putt in - the ball just bounces all over the place. The fairways are not good and the rough is becoming dirt. We can't figure out what happened to it.
Greens are TERRIBLE
Have played this course in the past and LOVED it as it is a more difficult course and was in great shape. Well NOT NOW, the greens are TERRIBLE, putting on dirt and mud and patches of grass. So your golf will consist of getting to the greens and picking up your ball. VERY DISAPPOINTED that I was not made aware of this prior to booking. Rest of course from tee to green is in good shape with nice fairways.
Bad Reviews --Issues with Greens
First, I hate to write a poor review for this outstanding course & people of RedTail. This is a fun layout, but in reality the "greens" are not putting surfaces; hardly any grass. I was advised by ProShop what to expect, but would like to know what the big secret is.....misdiagnosis of disease or poor agronomy care, or burnt on purpose to replace with a newer strain of tift--dwarf Bermuda. The sand traps are being maintained (normally a sign of financial issues or care priorities), so I'm curious how this wonderful course can rebound. Its hard for me to complain, the pace-of-play was wonderful and I played well (a couple of 3putts offset by a few lucky par-saves) -- even a 20' Birdie bounced in #9. Hopefully, RedTail gets back to what it once was, and the golfers will respond with the great reviews.
HORRIBLE greens
Greens were in horrible conditions, there was no way to putt, it was basically mud. They say an incorrect chemical used killed the grass. Fairways were average. I’ve seen better at that same price. Course layout is nice and very challenging. I couldn’t finish my round, 4 hours and we were still in the 14 hole. Horrible pace or play. The worst is that they are charging full price. See the video and be the judge.
greens are gone
having played red tail many times over the years i was excited to get an early round in. the course has a fun but challenging layout, and is usually in very good shape.
the day didn’t start well when the course did not have a record of my tee time, despite having a confirmation number from golf now. to the course’s credit they still honored the time.
pace was good. they sent us out behind two members who played quickly. but we ran into several foursomes on hole 17. with a tee time of 7am, this could only mean that the course put out a member group in front of us on staggered holes. i didn’t appreciate that.
but the worst part of the round was the greens. they’re gone. a mix of mud, weeds and some patches of bumpy grass. perhaps i missed this issue in the course description while booking, but even at a somewhat better price than most courses this time of year it was still far overpriced due to the completely unplayable greens.
i would check back in a few months to see if they’ve been able to salvage the greens because the course can be a lot of fun. but right now i would advise to stay away.
Terrible
Have played red tail many times before and it was a good course. However this time we were informed the greens were a “little bit rough” after we had already paid. When we got to the first green it was terrible. The grass was almost completely dead. This was by far the worst greens I have ever attempted to put on. It was as if they were attempting to kill the greens so they could re-due them. I understand that they have the need to re due the greens after years of play but I wish we would have been informed prior to driving an hr away to play this course. I will not be going back to red tail anytime soon
Rough putt
Great coarse and game but with all of the greens all under repair today was not the day to focus on your putting... the pain was offset by a $30 replay! Overall great day and great game!
Ridiculous
Golf course has been one of. My favorites. BUT......its obvious something has gone wrong. Greens were absolutely terrible. Dirt. They should be asking $25 . I brought guys from out of town in to play it. Totally embarrassed.
terrible
Greens were the worst I have ever seen they should have discounted the rate or advertised that the greens were this bad.
Love this course... but worst greens I have ever seen!
Not sure what went wrong but the greens were browns. I am sure in a few months with warm conditions they will be back... I hope!
Beautiful course
The course is gorgeous, but the greens are trashed. To be fair we were warned before our round and they were giving everyone the option to come back and play the course for $30 in March after the greens are back. I look forward to going back and playing!
Stay Away!
The course has gone to complete trash. Not one green is playable. Fairways are in poor condition as well. The worst part of all is management has no problem taking your money without being forthright about the conditions. Sad, this used to be one of my favorite tracks. I will not go back until I hear of new management and maintenance.
