Love this course!
My friend and I have played here 3 times now and I absolutely love it. The views are amazing, the course is extremely challenging and the conditions are the best in San Jose. The staff is always very accommodating and helpful. I have yet to play the full course yet since holes 6-10 are closed due to a bridge being washed out (you replay 1-5 after 11-18) but am excited to play the course in its entirety in the fall. If you play here, you won't be disappointed, just remember to bring your A game and probably a couple extra balls.
Not a good round for the money
Holes 6-11 were closed for repair and there was no discount to the advertised prices. The staff was too consumed with preparation for a wedding (that was happening later that night) to have a bartender on duty before 6 PM. The holes that were open for play were beautiful had there not been random foursomes zooming all over the course jumping in and out of tee box rotation the play would have been satisfactory. There was no refreshment cart or field marshal on duty. Overall, for a Saturday outing at a "4 star" establishment i feel like we got jipped!! I should have stayed home and watched the open... It would have been a higher quality golf experience than the way we were treated at The Ranch, Wedding Hall. Terrible.
5 holes are closed
The course has holes 6-10 closed due to a washed out bridge since last November and there was nothing on Golf Now informing me of the situation.
Challenging
Great course, eventhough some holes closed. Fairways are in great shape consdering water shortage. Greens are fast and straight.Pace is excellent
GOOD, BUT COULD BE BETTER
I would have rated this course as excellent, but for the fact that you can't play holes 6-10 due to a bridge outage that happened several months ago. To get in 18, you play 1-5 twice.
Otherwise, the course was in excellent condition, especially considering drought conditions.
This is a very challenging course due to narrow fairways with opportunities to loose balls if you miss them. Also, many forced carries over canyons. This is not a walking course as there are many elevation changes.
I would not have played this course, but for a great GolfNow deal. The rack rate is way too much, especially when you can't play all of the course.
Hardest but beautiful
Unfortunately through the 6th to 11th hole are under construction so we have to play 1st to 5th twice until maybe this December . Corse is very nice condition and view is parfectly beautiful . If you like to think about corse management, here is very enjoyable. Each hole have a nickname, if you could understand, you would be able to make nice score!
Good value with the temporary layout
This is a great golf course! Right now holes 6-10 are closed due construction...but it is not crowded and the pace of play is great. You play 1 thru 5 and then 11 thru 18 and then replay 1 thru 5...great fairways and really excellent greens. But if you don't hit the ball straight off the tee, bring some extra balls.
Difficult.
Difficult course. Lost lots of balls, so take some extra.
One of the most difficult courses in Bay area.
Course is good in condition, but as you can read others' reviews, 6-10 holes are closed, so you are going to play 1-5 holes twice, and Due to the construction, the course is a little bit untidy.
5 holes closed
I would have liked to be informed that 5 holes were closed before purchasing on GolfNow. The other single I teamed up with kept saying what a great deal it was for $19. Obviously I paid a great deal more for a 13 hole course. I should have been informed of the course conditions and offered a substantially reduced price for 13 holes.
Always challenging with a great View
Course was in great shape like always and the views on top of the hill were fantastic. The Course was under repair with holes 6-10 unplayable so they have the course set up to play holes 1-5, 11-18 and 1-5 again for a par 75. Mid-handicappers bring an extra box of balls!!!
Great value
Bring lots of balls. Not for the timid or faint of heart. But an exceptional course with a wide variety of interesting. Holes. Very well maintained and very scenic.
Disappointing results
Did not enjoy the way u have to play temporarily because of washed out bridge.
Needs work
5 of the holes are closed due to a washed out bridge. You play 1-5, go to 11 and play 11-18 and then repeat 1-5 for the 18 holes. That was ok but my partner and I were in 8-10 sand traps and only 1 had sand!!!! Its hard to hit a sand shot when on concrete or rocks.I understand that they have problems with the closed holes but cant they buy sand!!! I am not sure why people at this course do not fix their ball marks. I must have fixed 4 for every 1 of mine.
Serious pace of play problem!!
1.) The Ranch is the toughes course I know - unforgivingly built into the hills. I love that!
2.) The Ranch also lost a bridge last December which made some holes unaccessible and now the course is rerouted: one plays the front 5, then the back 11 - 18 and then the front 5 again. I think to overcome that handicap they decided to offer more deals and here's the problem:
More and more people are attracted to play the Ranch who frankly don't have the skills or the pace of play discipline and surely they still have to play from the longer tees...
A round at the Ranch these days surely takes you more than 5hrs.!!
I will happily come back to the Ranch once the full 18 holes round is restored; for now it is a slow practice round at best.
Unfair, unfun
Its target golf with forced carries and a lost ball for being off by 15 yds. Fairways are 20 yds wide surrounded by canyons. Feels like playing Golden Tee more than real golf. Terrible experience.
Better then I thought
It was in great condition and the greens was very smooth and but fast love that like how they use to be . Overall in great condition and can't wait to open all the rest of holes you still play 18 just a bit more driving there is the pain ..
Gorgeous Views
Pace of play was awful. Sand traps were in awful shape, and holes 5-9 have apparently been out of commission since December. That said, fairways and greens were in great shape, and the difficulty of the course was a fun challenge.
Great Value through Golf Now Hot Deal
Target type course with lots of elevation narrow fairways and very tough for a learner. Beautiful scenery lots of wild life. Great value.
Course for advanced golfer on;y
I'd heard this course is difficult but wanted to give it a try. I'm an 18 handicap so I was hopeful I'd play well but the layout was to difficult for the average golfer. Course was in good shape and staff was fine.
First issue was that 6 though 10 were closed (Since December) and the drive between 5 and 11 was 20 minutes! then the drive back to 12 was another 10. Played 1 through 5 twice to get in 18 (another long drive back to the clubhouse)
As for the challenges; Most holes were all carry, have to be in the fairway or on the green or your ball was lost or unplayable. Many blind shots so I as penalized even when I hit it well. Cart path only on all holes with long up/downhill walks to the fairway. Traps were horrible, mostly mud/clay. Greens were fair and in good shape when I played. Luckily no wind or it would have been even uglier.
If you are a single digit you will enjoy this experience but bring lots of balls if not.
A course to remember!!!
Gorgeous setting. Very challenging layout. Local course knowledge is important. If you are playing the course for the first time, ask to be paired up with someone who has played the course before and can give you good pointers on club selection, lay-up tips and the like. Be prepared to lose a lot of balls. Staff very friendly. No driving range, but a couple of practice nets to warm up. Great clubhouse, patio, etc. Holes 6 through 10 currently not available for play. But 18 holes of golf is made possible by playing 1-5 twice!!!
