Not for the faint hearted!
Excellent value as restricted to 13 holes at the moment.
Some really tough risk/reward holes, especially in the wind. Good greens and course condition overall.
Would recommend but beware if you are a beginner.
Staff very helpful and friendly.
difficult
Probably the most difficult course I have ever played. Will not play again. Holes 6 through 10 were closed so you played 1 thru 5 twice to get 18. A bridge was washed out.
First time/Last time.
Probably the worst course I've ever played. I love challenging courses, but this one is just ridiculous. Even the most challenging courses should reward good shots - not the case with this place. I won't be back.
it could be good and it has been good
five holes have been closed since December 6 7 8 9 and 10. so they let you play 1 through 5 twice.they said a bridge broke down or went out when they fix it it would be a nice course again and then and only then would I recommended it
Target golf
Cool layout up in the hills with some pretty holes. 5 holes are closed which really impacts pace of play when people from the back come back to replay 1-5 an theres twice as many groups on those holes. Very difficult course but a good shot making test. And include yardage books with greens fees with this type of layout!
The Ranch Course review
The course, for the most part, was in good shape, except for the front 9, which involved only being about to play 5 holes, then returning to play the 1st 5 holes again. This was due to work on holes 6 - 10, which, I wish someone from the pro show would have advised me of this condition prior to the round. Aside from that, I enjoyed the toughness of the course. It really tests your golfing skills.
False advertising
I wish I would have known that 5 holes were under repair. For $45 I could have had played played at a similar course. Very diss appointed .
First time I have seen a beer guy
Course should close until bridge is fixed. Poor layout. Uninformed staff. No beer girl. Stupid greens. Course all already tough enough. TaRget golf. Cart path only. Wont play again
This course should hurry up and fix there holes
Holes 6-12 have been closed for months. The detour made it a 6 hour round.
Bring your A game and a dozen balls!
The 150 slope rating is, without a doubt, the highest rated course most players will ever play in their lives. Seriously. There are so many ways to lose balls on virtually every hole that, unless you're incredibly accurate or consistently lucky, you can count on a half dozen goners over 18 holes. That said, the course is a gem and the golf now discounted price makes it a terrific value. Go play it!
stay away from this course!
This course was designed by a mad man. Every inch is on a hill. Should only be played by very good to expert golfers!
Top notch course
The Ranch is a very beautiful and challenging course. Almost every hole has elevation changes and several have forced carries. Greens, tee boxes and fairways are all in top condition. Note: currently holes 6-10 are closed due to recent storm damage. They let you play 1-5 twice to make up 18. No problem if you play late afternoon mid week like I did but this will no doubt back things up on a weekend so be prepared.
Views are excellent and There were some turkeys on a few of the holes. The fairways are narrow with a number of them having steep cliffs so keeping it in play is a must!
I had to get on the road right after my round but the restaurant looked fabulous so I'll be back to both play the course and dine at the restaurant.
Love this course
Very challenging course.
I'm female but I always
Play from blue tee and only lost one ball.
Good for the money and time slot
Right now the course is skipping 5 holes due to oversaturation. For the money and time I had to play it was fun. I hope this deal lasts another week so I can play again for a great deal.
Poor Layout and Design
First off, the course and views are beautiful. That being said, the actual playability and fairness of the layout is horrible. Without a course GPS, or layout booklet it is nearly impossible. Most tee shots are blind with no way of knowing the distance to safe landing areas. Some holes are so ridiculous to the point of seeming gimmicky. On top of that, holes 6-10 are closed. I understand that is not their fault, but with that in mind, they should at least try to keep holes 3 and 4 from having tarps on the fairway.
I understand this would normally be a $100 course that I got to play for $45 and on a beautiful day, no matter how unfair the layout, I still enjoyed myself. Just be ready for frustrating play and a real challenge. I do plan on trying again; next time, armed with a GPS system.
Some greens are almost putt-putt like...
Great Layout. Impressive views
The course is has beutiful views and is well designed. Not that long, but has challenging par 4 and 5s. Very nice club house and staff is friendly.
You can lose a lot of balls here if you don't bring your A game. Greens could use some work, lots of grain and a bit crunchy.
All in all good fun. San Jose Golfers should put "The Ranch" on their Monthly rotation
The Ranch Golf Club
The Ranch Golf Club is a love/hate proposition. It is a very challenging course for anyone who is looking to improve their game. Elevated tee boxes with many forced carries/barrancas. Very few flat lies challenge your alignment/set-up skills. Greens run pretty fast, and have challenging slope and pin placements.
The staff is top notch and pace of play for a cart path only facility is very good. Outstanding views of the Santa Clara valley and beyond make the Ranch a must visit for the avid duffer. You'll decide the love/hate thing after your round.
Unforgiving.
Bring lots of balls. If it's your first time to play this course it's very difficult for the average golfer. The greens especially are extremely unforgiving.
At this time the course is under repair. You play holes 1 through 5 then jump to 11 through 18, then back to 1 through 5 to finish. Very confusing. Don't know how long that will last.
Weather Damage, but great course!
This course is very nice, and the staff is great. It is unfortunate that they were hit hard by a recent storm and a few holes are unplayable currently, but I'm sure that had to with the great rate I got. The holes that were available (1-5, 11-18, 1-5) were very challenging and fun. This is definitely a course for advanced golfers, as I lost a decent amount of balls compared to most courses. I look forward to playing again as soon as the course is repaired completely. Until then, this is still a recommend from me.
