amazing
Excellent course to test your skills. You haven't played golf until you played "the ranch"!
Unreal
Such a challenge an unreal course. A must play course , at least once. Great golf. Take extra golf balls. Great price.
Tough Course
The Ranch is a very challenging course. The greens are sloped and are very fast. The course challenges at every hole with various elevations. You have to be accurate off the tee, not necessarily long. When the wind picks up this course becomes even harder. Great place to play, beautiful views of the downtown San Jose. The biggest negative I have found is the sand trap. The sand is like concrete and almost unplayable.
Fun course
A very nice course and fun. One Big Problem, the bunkers have NO Sand to speak of in them and if you and up in them, it ruins the Game. GET PROPER SAND in the bunkers! Now it is like hitting the ball out if clay.
The Ranch
Tough course, a lot of forced carries, some quirky landing ares and not a lot of margin for error.
A lot of elevation changes which makes club selection difficult.
Probably 4 easy holes on the whole course.
Leave The Driver
Thought provoking round, very well kept course, need to play more than once, buy a yardage book it will help immensely. Very enjoyable track!
Too narrow, all target golf
Every hole is exceedingly narrow, and there are no rough or bailout areas. Normally I play 6200 yards or so, but that would have meant for a miserable day on this track. We were the third group out and just played the white tees so our pace was OK but the groups behind us were way behind looking for balls and replaying shots.
My problem was mostly with the design vs conditions (though the bunkers were in lousy condition). Most of the fairways were in good shape and all the greens were nice. Two almost back to back 80 yard par 3's were weird. Also there are only nets to warm up with
I likely won't be back, it's just not a fun course to play despite all the elevation changes. I'm a 14 and shot 84, so it wasn't that I had a bad day scoring from the easier tees, it was just I hated playing conservative all day.
The Challenge
I was very excited to play this course on my first day of summer. The course is well maintained and very difficult. We did not realize that at the turn (hole 9 to hole 10) we would not pass by the clubhouse and were starving for lunch. We decided to take a break and eat at the cafe. We had a nice burger and fries but were yelled at to keep down the noise by a staff member because they were having a meeting. We were not making noise but another table was as the first game of the World Cup was on. I was very upset by this and decided after our lunch we were done playing the course. I am not sure if I will ever come back again and my three other friends feel the same way.
A 3 hour tour a 3 hour tour!!
Was supposed to play with a group but they were late so teed off solo and played the whole round in right at 3 hours.Beautiful day, sunny a tad breezy on the back 9 but the views are spectacular and elevation changes created some crazy shots. Always have a good time, and I only paid 21 bucks!! Thanks GN
What a challenge!
Not for a beginner. Tough course with challenges on every hole. Goood accurate shot placement is a must. Bring extra balls as if you miss your shot you WILL loose your ball as there is little wiggle room for error.
95 degrees and no drinking water or beverage cart!
Played Sunday afternoon- extremely slow play and hot. Course in generally good shape, but many unrepaired ball marks on greens, and no sand in bunkers. Biggest complaint is that 95+ degrees and no drinking water in the jugs! First jug was just a trickle, and other 2 were empty. Called pro shop twice, but never saw a ranger or water. Only saw cart girl on 10th hole, and she was gone at 5 pm, while still over 90 degrees out and plenty of players on course. Obvious lack of concern by staff- if it's hot out, play at your own risk!
95 degrees and no drinking water or beverage cart!
Played at 12:40 on Sunday afternoon- temp. over 95 degrees. Trickle of water in 1st jug, and jugs on 9 and 13 totally empty. Saw cart girl at 10th hole, and not at all for rest of round. Close to 5 hour round with no water other than from a warm fountain at bathroom, and cart girl 1 time. She left at 5 pm, so good luck to everyone still on the course! Also didn't look like many people fixing their ball marks, and not much sand in the bunkers. If it's a hot afternoon, play at your own risk!
Difficult layout, not for beginners.
I very much like playing this course, its a real test of golf. Many people do not play here as its the most difficult and challenging course in the area. It brings you back to reality. I would give the course an excellent conditions rating except for one thing. The sand traps are awful. They have no sand in them, its near impossible to play a regular shot. You must literally chip shots out of the sand traps. The hard clay in the bottom of the traps is impossible.
It's a great challenge
Great golf coarse, very clean, great condition and friendly staff. Can't ask for anything more.
A Golfers Course
This course is about ball placement and not distance. Some of the shorter par 4 holes have blind tee/fairway shots while the longer par 5 fairways are narrow. It's very easy to lose a ball as the border areas are unforgiving. My advice (that was given to me) is to use your irons on the first 6 holes. The fairways and greens were in excellent condition. The greens were soft and true. I did notice ponding water in some of the traps during my early round play from irrigation, so use caution. After finishing my round, I had lunch at their facility and the menu and food selection are also excellent. I enjoyed the course so much I decided to replay after lunch for $30 more.
This course does not have a driving range - instead they have ball nets. And while the course is open to all golfers - those with a handicap of 24+ should wait until they improve before playing here.
Nice work Ground Crew
I reviewed this course last year and was somewhat disappointed in the quality of care. Things have changed. The course (fairways and greens) are as good as any country club. A superior golf course with the difficulty factor of a far more expensive club. They have great deals on Golf Now.
The sand bunkers are still inconsistent (some fluffy, some like concrete). Moral of that story...Don't hit your ball into the bunkers.
Greens
Everything about this course is a challenge , the greens are not like they used to be , ether people not fixing ball marks , fungus, disease not sure but the could use some attention. This is my favorite course and I call it home . You can find out a lot about a person when playing here , what there truly made of . It tests ones integrity , character , strength and weaknesses. Overall it's not for everyone if you can't break 100 on a flat track I recommend coming for the breath taking views and enjoy your day and fix your divots for the next play
Great course. Only for advanced golfers.
Challenging golf course. Love it. But do not go if you are handicap is higher than 14. If you are higher than 14 please bring at least 2 dozen balls.
Gorgeous, but absolutely challenging
Gorgeous, but absolutely challenging. The course features such a amazing view of the greater San Jose area. It was breathtaking to see. Prob why my golf game fell off the hill but it was nevertheless fun. I felt like the front 9 was much more of a challenge that punishes the golfer, where as the back 9 complete 180 turnaround featuring some <100 yard par3s just to mess with your brain! Loved the course and experience!
