Shot Makers Course
Fantastic course, but very challenging!! The elevation changes are incrdible! The course vistas are fantastic, and the facilities are quite nice. This course takes a lot of thought, and therefore, pace of play is slow. However, they do not overcrowd the tee times. Can't wait to play it again!!
Very Difficult, But Outstanding Course!!
I lost so many balls, but really loved this course!! Huge elevation changes! The course is in great shape, and definitely a shot-makers course. I highly recommend it!!
Lives up to the slope
Very challenging course off the tee, lots of elevation, with a few severely undulating greens. It's target golf all the way through, and lives up to the 150 slope rating. Spectacular valley views from the hill tops, and a very nice clubhouse. No practice facility other than one putting green and swing nets. Definitely makes you want to come back and master the challenge!!
Great practice course
I always enjoy playing The Ranch not expecting to shoot well but seeing which holes I can conquer one at a time! It makes for a challenging round and an interesting walk :-)
Great challenging Course
Great, very challenging golf course. The golf round tends to take some extra time as the course is very long and there is a 3 to 4 minute cart ride going to hole 12. No need to wait on the tee's as their rarely are any back ups.
very target accurate required
Greens were in great shape but bunkers were terrable.
Very hard for seniors
they should allow carts on fairways for seniors..
But beautiful course anyway..
A day at the Ranch Golf Club
This is a very tough course, walking is or should not be allowed, cart use only. There are many long treks from green to next tee. I really enjoyed the beauty of the course, the staff is friendly and helpful, the food in the restaurant was excellent. I do recommend playing this course, especially if you can find a discount price to play.
Looks are deceiving
It's really two different golf courses! The front nine is tight and narrow and has many elevation changes. Just when you think you give up you get to the back nine which is a lot more user friendly.
The Ranch is always fun
This is a course that demands straight accurate shots.
Great staff. Starter spaced the groups so well that we moved through the holes in less than 4 hours. Course conditions were excellent considering the dry winter.
Wow!
Incredible course. Very unique. I enjoyed the stepping nature of the course. It's definitely a challenging course to play, have me a chance to work on my short game. Stay patient and play to one landing at a time. Great time!
hit the fairway
one of my favorite courses in san jose. i am from san diego we just dont have this type of course for the great price. i would be looking at 100 easy for a comparable one. buy a curse book i mean yardage book you really need to know where to hit the ball or play with someone who has been there, done that on some the holes. everyone who lives in san jose has to play this course at least once for the experience
almost got killed on this course
The pace of play was quite slow on this course, so a couple teenagers behind us, who were probably also drunk, you see them holding beer bottles and dozen of beers in their golf cart, got inpatient and started hitting the golf ball right at us. While we shouted to them to stop doing that, they actually hit one more ball right at us. Unbelievable..... never had such a horrible golf experience.
Like Playing a Video Game
All things considered, elk and a good amount of rain just days before, the staff did a really good job get the course into shape. My main gripe is the design of the course, its ridiculous. The consistent elevation change, mostly downhill, is unlike any course I've ever seen. A lot of courses usually have one or two holes, usually a par 3, with a 2 club elevation change, but you have it on numerous holes here. Unless you play this course regularly there is no way one could have the proper experience to estimate the club choice based on elevation and wind. Also, you have to take a cart to play this course. That is not how golf was meant to be played. Don't get me wrong, I don't care or judge if people use carts. In most cases, it speeds up play. However, every course should at least have the option of walking, but the distance between holes and the extreme uphill and downhill climbs make it impossible.
This course, staff, and facilities were great, but just like every other public course the price is too high. I realize they want to be a upper echelon course and golf experience but they're pricing the game out of business.
Not for the faint of heart
For mid to high handicapper's I don't recommend you play this course without a laser finder or Gps, and a friend who's played here at least five times.
The fairways are in great shape, but that's because it's cart path all 18 holes always! There are a ton of blind shots, which means you will need to lay up, the only problem with this is the fairways run from 30 yards wide and then cut down to 10 yards wide into a ravine. You may not need your driver , I used mine once and over-ran the fairway into the ravine. I loved the greens which are in great condition and fast. One thing, bring extra golf balls and please don't bother looking for shots hit out of the fairways it will help speed up the pace of play. The one major gripe was paying $25 to have my wife ride along.
Over all it was a good learning experience.
Not for high handicappers
This course just does not fit my eye, well at least the front 9. I shot a 67-50. and I think I have done about hte same the other 3 times i have played here. Front nine has lots of forced carrys, canyons, water, etc. It's target golf..not my cup o' tea. Also it was slow...we teed off at 11:50 and finished at 5:00. The pro shop was locked, and the restaurant was closed so we had to leave.
For the daring player
Very interesting and challenging, not for sensitive players and mouners
Good Value
challenging course. Typically fast pace of play except for the last round here. Need marshal to prevent players from spending too much time looking for lost balls
