Challenging but very playable
This is a challenging course. Played it for the first time and, I think, it's obvious that club choice, particularly from the tee box, requires a few more rounds. For me, this was a very enjoyable challenge. I learned what not to do in several situations (ie, driver off the tee at hole #3) and look forward to playing there again soon. it is a target course with narrow fairways on many holes and smallish greens. Lots of up and downs (some big downs) and situations that I've not encountered before.
Great views. Difficult for an average golfer. Friendly staff.

Fantastic challenging course with incredible views. Service unsatisfactory however
This a very challenging, yet fair course with an interesting and beautiful layout. A real pleasure to play. There is no return to the pro shop / restaurant through the course so take what you need for food and drink. We recently played here twice and the cart person was only seen once throughout the entire round (no earlier than the 9th hole). The time she came around the second time we played, she did not have drinks or food left, so although hungry and thirsty (in 100 degree weather), we went without, not even sure why she stopped to help us....Upon asking for a cup of ice for the little water we had left, we were informed that she "was not allowed to do that"...
There are a lot of beautiful well laid out golf courses in Silicon Valley and within a 20 mile drive. Due to the service, it will be awhile before we return, hopefully the course can hear this comment and make a few changes before we decide to come back.
This course very well maintained, which plays through the mountains and valleys. I would recommend this course to anyone.
This is a very challenging course, so be prepared to have 2-3 sleeves of balls with you. If you're inconsistent with teeing off, I would play the forward tee box (red or white) for the first five holes. This will get your game and confidence going prior to playing the white or blue tee boxes (try the black at your own risk). This course offers a variety of beautiful, scenic views, however they can deceive you when figuring out the yardage. In most cases, you will need to club up or down to make a decent play. Overall, good course management will keep you out of trouble. Good Luck and most importantly "Have Fun."
Don't play your Pro V1s
Never played here? Use your slightly used golf ball supply here as there is trouble on every single hole. This course can play very tough for those who have trouble carrying over barrancas or hitting straight consistently. Otherwise this is a short yardage, fun, challenging, "use your head" golf course. Cart path only on the entire 18 and hilly terrain can make it difficult and tiring. Green to tee box is not walkable so carts are required. No clubhouse at the turn so bring a snack.
Great view of San Jose Area.
This golf course is great, but you really need to play it several times until you get the line for your shots, ones you learn that, it turns a little bit more easy. Looks harder of what really is, but theres no place for mistakes. Narrow fairways, and multilevel greens. FUN.
Very challenging; fun if you aren't too concerned about your score.
This is a very interesting, challenging course. Leave your ego at the clubhouse. At the Golfnow "hot deal" rate, it was a great bargain. I only had two quibbles. The sand in bunkers was wet and crusty, perhaps because of unseasonal rain on Monday. But since I play on Thursday, there should have been time to work the bunkers. Also, I arrived in time to have lunch and hit a few putts before the 1:00 tee time. The food was very good, but the server totally ignored me after delivering the food. There was no offer to refill beverages. When I asked for the check, she said she would get to me but didn't. I had to get the manager in order to pay and make my tee time (without putting). I don't think it was the server's fault; I think the restaurant was understaffed, though it didn't appear to be very busy. Otherwise, this would have been a 5-star day.
The extreme slopes and mountainous terrain required incredible balance and strong knees. Be prepared to lose lots of balls!
I WAS ANNOYED that I paid the regular Monday fee without any discount , thus paying Golf Now an unnecessary booking fee.
very demanding and fair if you in fairways-will use all of your clubs!
Over all, very nice place with friendly staff. Felt good being there, especially with the HELP of golfnow.com! But seniors with handcapped or not will find playing this course tough due to cart path only--you can only go on fairways 7-8 times! And it is a very tough course with canyons, carry overs, and everything lol!!! But still, a very place venue!!
Awesome golf course!!
Tough course better hit it in the fairway off the tee and bring a dozen balls because you are going to nees them.
WINDY!!!!
Atop the mountains over looking San Jose, this course is super windy! Cool design with platform fairways and greens.
senic
I play this course often and have always found it challenging and enjoyable. Well maintained with fast greens.
Great Course, But Not For Everybody
The Ranch Golf Club is a terrific course with spectacular views of the San Jose area. The course condition is almost perfect and the greens are smooth and quick. The customer service was very good, and the pace of play was under four hours the morning I played. I will say, however, that there are many forced carries and the landing areas are not large, so check the slope rating, be sure to play the correct tees, and use driver sparingly, if at all. Also, The Ranch Golf Club is a "cart path only facility" every day, so if you want or need to drive to your ball, this might not be the best choice for you. Again, I love the course, think it is fairly priced on GolfNow, and I will play it again the next time I'm in San Jose.
Course offers beautiful vistas across the canyons and dramatic elevation changes
Excellent conditions. Beautiful vistas across the canyons.
Cart path only
You must use a cart but it is cart path only. The paths are always uphill from greens. path only made the course nearly unplayable.
The course has beautiful vistas.
A challenging course nestled in the hills of south San Jose. Most tees are elevated and all holes are reachable, but don't let this fool you, the greens are large, quick, and slope in all directions. There's not much of a rough anywhere on the course, if you don't find the fairway or close to it, hit a provisional. This is a fun course with a great staff.
great layout and views.
This is a target golf course. management is a must. The greens were fast and pin placement was challenging.
Always good challenge to play
This course is a difficult course, it challenges all levels. Bring plenty golf balls
Challanges with Views
This is a very challenging golf course. The course is very hilly. Some holes are quite distant from each other. Almost every hole has a barranca across the fairway. It is often better to layup short than trying to go from a distance to the green. The greens are in good shape. They are fast but receptive. The golfers can do a better job of fixing ball marks, though. There is a small net area to hit a few golf balls (supplied) before playing.
The views are spectacular so don’t forget to look around while you are playing. The houses around the course generally don’t come into play.
needs some customer service
pace of play was extremely slow, group ahead was two holes behind. contacted the pro shop to send marshall out. never was sent to speak to the group ahead, spoke to marshall he stated pace was fine, we finished the round in 5hrs. sand traps were badly maintained like hitting out of mud. Would recommend highly if they could correct above
