The Links at Summerly

About
The Links at Summerly borders Lake Elsinore, southern California's largest natural lake. The Ortega Mountains and the Cleveland Natural Forest are also the golf course's neighbors. Although it feels nicely secluded, the Links are conveniently just minutes from Temecula. The design tumbles across a rolling terrain that is accented with 3 miles of Scottish-style burns. The natural mounding was deftly incorporated throughout the golf course. The rugged landscape, reminiscent of courses in the British Isles, gives it the look and feel of a traditional links layout. It is a formidable test that features heavily undulated fairways and an abundance of kidney-shaped bunkers. Although there are some tricky holes, each one was designed to offer several different playing strategies. Thought and imagination are required, but you will also have to use every club in your back to navigate the twists and turns of the Links at Summerly.

Good place to practice
I play here often as its close to home and an excellent place to practice. This course is far from perfect but priced accordingly and still very playable. Perfect place to practice at regularly if you want to save some bucks.
Sad to see the State of this Place
I used to play Summerly somewhat regularly, and they have had a rough go of it with ownership issues. I hadn’t played the course since 2020. This used to be a great links style course, but its current conditions are almost unplayable. We played it Labor Day weekend (2023) as it was one of the only courses with open tee times and not extremely expensive. Once we arrived we found out why. I feel bad for the staff, you can tell they’re trying, but just don’t have the resources to maintain the course the way it needs to be. We wound up just quitting after 13 holes.
Not worth the money
The course was unplayable. The fairways were mostly dirt and weeds. The greens were not even playable. No sand in the bunkers. Not at all worth $40. If the course is spiffed up it would be a good course.
Getting better
Happy to see conditions are improving. Tee boxes are near perfect. Fairways are hit or miss. If we land on a dirt patch we bump it to the nearest grass. Approaches and green surrounds are a 10/10. Greens are brown but still roll good. Love playing here with the bargain green fees.
Absolute rip off
This course is a disgrace, and the fact they have the Audacity to charge north of 50 dollars to play here is disgusting. We check in and they tell us it’s “a little burnt out” out there. In reality, there is absolutely NO grass until about 5-10 yards out from the green. It’s like playing in a post apocalyptic wasteland. Do not waste your money here. You’re better off going 15 min up or down the freeway and spending just a little bit more money on legitimate courses in corona or Temecula. Will never go back.
Great staff and layout
Course has great staff and layout but definitely needs some work on fairways and greens lots of weeds throughout both.
Greens have Fungus
Almost every green still has really bad fungus, patchy brown, and bare spots all over greens. We played 2 stroke greens, if you don’t make first putt, pick it up and move on!!
They did give us discount on course at the start due to conditions. Fairways still have big patches of dirt. We would move 5-10 yards left or right just to find grass patch to hit second shots. Getting there still needs a lot of TLC from greens keeper!
Disappointed
I have played the chorus number of times. In all previous games the course has been in good condition. This time the course was a poor condition, both the fairways and greens. We have had a lot of rain lately, so I don’t know if the condition of the course was due to lack of water or too much water. I will give the course another cry in the future to see if their problems were weather related.
Great Service
Met a guy named Daniel in the pro shop. He went above and beyond with his customer service. Explained about the course and condition then he checked with us after we played do see how we did! Would definitely return just because of that!!
Great for the price
My husband and I played here for the first time today. The course leaves some desire for the aesthetics. The layout is very cool. Definitely a fun place to play for the price. We’ll be back soon.
Awful! Not even worth it for free.
The course is in complete disrepair. The greens are dried up and dead cracking everywhere, there’s barely any grass anywhere to be found on the fairways. The only part that had grass for the tea boxes I think because no one’s using them to the grass is able to grow. Just overall disappointing! We paid $27 and I still don’t even think it was worth it. I don’t think I’ll go back even if it’s free the clubhouse is pretty much out of business snack bars not open the courses in disrepair, and it’s just overall an awful experience besides, the staff who are friendly.
Good deal
Fun place to play at a fair price. The conditions vary hole to hole. Greens are brown but still roll decent. Will be back soon.
Terrible
Course was absolutely terrible. Worst course I’ve ever played. Shoulda left after the first hole but had already booked through GN. And was hoping it would get better. It did not. The greens were brown and covered with coyote excrement . The fairways were patchy and that is being generous. The only thing that was half way decent was the tee box. Get your act together or severely discount your rate.
Fun, budget friendly
I play here regularly for the fun unique layout that constantly presents new challenges. Tee boxes are pristine, fairways are a 8/10. Green surrounds and approaches are a 10/10. The greens have have browned out the last month but they still roll good. I’ve been told it’s part of the process as they are reseeding with a new type of grass. Will be back next week.
What happened to the greens
The fairways have been in bad shape for a while but the greens and the areas around the greens were good. Not anymore! Something has overtaken the greens making them unplayable. There are large brown patches everywhere. Looks like mold or fungus. Too bad.
what happened to the greens
The fairways have been in bad shape for a while, but the greens and areas around the greens were well maintained. No anymore! The greens were essentially unplayable as a fungus or mold has overtaken them. The greens all had large brown circles on them everywhere. If you hit all your approach shots within 4 feet of the cup you would be OK. More than that makes for an impossible putt alternating between grass and large brown patches. It is too bad that this course has fallen so far. I don't think I'll return.
Used to be decent....
So bummed this course is in such bad shape. The fairways are dirt, mud, and ice plant. It used to be in decent shape but not anymore. the double green is now two separate greens. The burns (creeks) that run the fairways are over grown and need attention. Such a shame. never again.
