Getting better every day
Played course in Nov. 2017 and greens were really bad. Played yesterday and they were greatly improved, but still need warmer temps so bare spots will grow in. As long as company keeps it current price point then there is value in playing River Oaks. The layout is good and a fair test of your game. The tee boxes are great as you can pick what yardage you want to challenge yourself. The course is very enjoyable for women. I hope the ownership can survive the current down trend in golf.
Not Perfect but on its way...
Ok, I get it, this course has ways to go before I can give it four or five stars but it should get there very soon. The biggest and really the only major problem is the condition of the greens. A times it’s like putting over washboard. My partner and I just agreed on a two put maximum and just had fun. It’s my understanding the course recently reopened after being closed for several months during a change in ownership. The new owners seem committed to getting the course back in top condition as soon as possible. I like this course and would recommend to anyone in the condition it’s in right now but if you can’t stand to play a track that isn’t four or five stars just give it a few months.
Try it
Beautiful surroundings and easy to follow course. The drought has not been friendly to the course.
Tucked away gem
Good to see River Oaks back and running at full speed ,greens need improvement ,but assured they are working on them. Playing course is like going back in time to area that reminds me of my youth. John the manager is always friendly and accomodating. See you in Nicklaus you will like it.

Country golf
Reviewed before. Course closed for awhile ,reopened and is progressing nicely. Good course surrounded by ranch land . Great practice facility . A rural gem.
Course conditions
No grasses in the fairways you can't tell which fairways or which rough. The greens are half with dried patches.
Greens need help!
We have played here many times and love it. We can’t really complain for Golf now price we paid so this is more of a FYI.
The greens are all suffering some sort of a invasive rot or?? Putting was a challenge Ball was bouncing all over. Hope they can get it fixed soon.
Fun course
Have played this course a hundred times. I love it, but unfortunately, since last years floods, the course has had a hard time recovering. Fairways, great. Greens, need a lot of help, but for the price, worth it.
The course has many many good features several narrow fairways.
I haven’t played here in several years. The maturing trees is turning the front side into a classic tree lined 9 holes. The fairways are looking really good. The elimination of the split rail fences and ob on the right side of #10
USA good thing. The greens are a work in progress, a lot of either invasive grass or dormant Bermuda. Bottom line course is looking good, Greens need work. It is a fun course to play
Love this course and turning around
Loved playing this course in the past. I know it was closed for a while and you can tell with the greens which are half brown. But for the price, this place is fun for the price with good pace of play. And the conditions will only be getting better under new ownership.
Not a bad course except for the greens!
The course was pretty average as far as the fairway grass and rough grass however the greens were a completely different story. The weeds on the greens would send your ball in a different direction. Maybe until the greens are fixed they should go to a 8 inch cup.
Great layout but greens are terrible!
I have played this course many times and the layout is very enjoyable. The pace of play is very good too (played in 2 1/2 hours). The only downfall are the greens. Crabgrass is taking over all of the greens and they are very bumpy and inconsistent. I missed a one-foot putt by 4 or 5 inches left due to the crabgrass. By far some of the worst greens I have ever putted on. Hopefully the superintendent can get on top of them this winter or they will need to be replaced...
Getting better
I really like this course. Sure the greens are in bad shape, but they are getting better. Grass tees on the range is great. My round was played in 2 hours and 40 minutes.
Greens gone
The facilities are nice. They have a good course layout. The greens are unplayable. All the greens were weed infested so bad that the ball would would bounce around like a pinball machine. Just two years ago I would have recommended this course. I hope they can take care of the problem this winter.
Course greens in extremely bad condition
This was the first time I played this course. The course itself was not in an extremely bad condition but the greens were horrendous. It was a disgrace to call them green. It was full of crab grass, weed and grass less patches. The ball instead of rolling was hopping around on the green. I have played many courses and this course should not even be on golf now specially for such a high price. An extremely bad experience.
glad they are open again
Since the reopening the course requires some work but a great place to play. We enjoy playing at this course.
river oaks gc
the course was in horrible condition.. greens worse than plugged greens.. very very very disappointed.
this track is nice but conditions were horrible.. worse than i have ever seen at any course.
River Oaks is struggling but may make it this time
The course has potential but the greens are a disaster. They are working on them and hope to have them ready by next spring. Once on the green it is a two putt rule and then pick up. Helps the overall handicap! This course will play for most amatures once the greens are healed. But for 10 bucks it works better than paying $8 for a bucket of balls.
