Love this course and turning around
Loved playing this course in the past. I know it was closed for a while and you can tell with the greens which are half brown. But for the price, this place is fun for the price with good pace of play. And the conditions will only be getting better under new ownership.
Not a bad course except for the greens!
The course was pretty average as far as the fairway grass and rough grass however the greens were a completely different story. The weeds on the greens would send your ball in a different direction. Maybe until the greens are fixed they should go to a 8 inch cup.
Great layout but greens are terrible!
I have played this course many times and the layout is very enjoyable. The pace of play is very good too (played in 2 1/2 hours). The only downfall are the greens. Crabgrass is taking over all of the greens and they are very bumpy and inconsistent. I missed a one-foot putt by 4 or 5 inches left due to the crabgrass. By far some of the worst greens I have ever putted on. Hopefully the superintendent can get on top of them this winter or they will need to be replaced...
Getting better
I really like this course. Sure the greens are in bad shape, but they are getting better. Grass tees on the range is great. My round was played in 2 hours and 40 minutes.
Greens gone
The facilities are nice. They have a good course layout. The greens are unplayable. All the greens were weed infested so bad that the ball would would bounce around like a pinball machine. Just two years ago I would have recommended this course. I hope they can take care of the problem this winter.
Course greens in extremely bad condition
This was the first time I played this course. The course itself was not in an extremely bad condition but the greens were horrendous. It was a disgrace to call them green. It was full of crab grass, weed and grass less patches. The ball instead of rolling was hopping around on the green. I have played many courses and this course should not even be on golf now specially for such a high price. An extremely bad experience.
glad they are open again
Since the reopening the course requires some work but a great place to play. We enjoy playing at this course.
river oaks gc
the course was in horrible condition.. greens worse than plugged greens.. very very very disappointed.
this track is nice but conditions were horrible.. worse than i have ever seen at any course.
River Oaks is struggling but may make it this time
The course has potential but the greens are a disaster. They are working on them and hope to have them ready by next spring. Once on the green it is a two putt rule and then pick up. Helps the overall handicap! This course will play for most amatures once the greens are healed. But for 10 bucks it works better than paying $8 for a bucket of balls.
Needs work
I enjoyed the round. The course was in fair shape, except for the greens. They were in terrible shape, but the course told me that before hand. Putting was a bit difficult.
Rustic golf
Course just reopened after flooding . Course is going to be fine after the greens are smoothed out. Nice to drive into the countryside where nothing exists except pasture and Walnut orchards, and this little gem of a golf course. Worth the drive
Greens are bad!
The greens are in horrible condition, it will take awhile for them to come back...$35 is not worth the round. The staff is friendly and provide good customer service.
The course was ok, however Golf Now did not let us know that half the course was closed and that a tournament was booked making play too slow...
Usually very good but frustrating experience:/
I've gone to river oaks probably 20 times over the last year and usually love it. However, yesterday I showed up and they informed me that only the back 9 is open and that I'd have to run down my cart partner. After being very rudely dismissed by the check in attendant, I talked them into giving me my own cart and went to tee off. Since only 9 of the 18 holes were open, I hav e some ladies cut me saying they were "finishing a tournament". The pace of play was super slow. Normally, i can finish 18 holes in 3 to 3.5 hours. I finished 9 in 2.5 hours and left after that. I will go back, I will just call now every time before I go, especially making the strike from Sacramento.
The front nine was close and nobody told us. When we got to first tee, there no markers. So we went back to the club house to ask what was going on. Then they finally told us the front nine was close. Didnt give us a reason why either.
River oaks
My first time playing here. I loved the course but was only able to play the back nine, front was closed due to ground water seepage. Was not aware of this until we arrived, was told that course had advised last minute tee times of closure. Not a problem for us we played the back nine twice. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Will definitely play here again. Loved discounted price.
Only a nine hole
It would have been nice if we were told we could only play nine holes at the time of the reservation. And only offered 5$ off because it was nine holes. Pretty shady
Pathetic
I have played this course multiple times due to it being close. It is over priced for the conditions every time. This time however was the worst. Due to the excessive rain we've had in the area it was back 9 only. We waited for twilight at 2pm to pay $25 instead of $49 to only get the (unaware) back 9 only. Pace was very fast however once we got to 14 we were followed the final holes with a small utility vehicle with a sprayer attached to spray the greens. Once we finished 18 we weren't allowed to go play the back 9 again to complete the 18 holes (full round) they happily charged us for.
