Impossible rough
Course is designed for golfers with handicaps of 12 or less. Lots of undulations in fairways and greens with the rough being very deep and rugged. Need to hit high approach shots for balls to stay on greens after landing. Several blind shots on course, so take time to drive cart ahead to see landing areas before hitting. Condition of greens and fairways are dependent on season and rainfall. Huge driving range!
Truly a Gem
This is a gem of course in Lubbock. Everything was absolutely perfect from the tee boxes, fairways, bunkers and greens. This is a super fair course. Hit a stray ball you most likely will be penalized for it. Keep the ball in the short stuff and you can score. My son and I played the Sunday before classes resumed at Tech so it was packed and we had to wait around on some holes, but that’s to be expected. Our cart had some issues that we were not aware of and the staff brought out not one but two carts to make sure there was no problems. I can’t say enough that this course had the feel of a resort course you would play in the big cities, but it’s public. I will be back and look forward to playing Rawls again.
West Texas Golf at it Finest
If you ever get the chance this is one of the best courses in West Texas you need to play, The Rawls Course. My son and I played there the Sunday before classes resumed at Tech, so it was a little slow. But the experience was equivalent to some of the higher end courses you play in DFW, Austin, San Antonio and Houston. Every aspect of the course was exceptional. The course is challenging, stray off the fairway you will be penalized, put the ball on the wrong part of the green, it’s going to cost you. If you keep it in the short grass you’re going to score. It’s a true challenge and throw that West Texas wind in and you are going to play all the shots in your bag. Definitely will be back there to play again. Hopefully my game matches the quality of the course.
Nice Course
This is a very nice course. Not memorable just nice. Let me first say that I played it on a fairly calm wind day. The course is pretty straight forward with no difficulty. The teeth of the course is the greens, and the wind.
Amazing
I love being able to play this course when it is in impeccable condition, definitely helps improve your score, that is unless you are not in the fairway. The rough is thick and there is no roll and good chance you’ll lose your ball, which makes this course even more fun and challenging.
This is by far my favorite course yet
Amazing course, also challenging but was a beautiful course
Incredible design
Not only the best course for value I’ve ever played. But one of the best course designs there is.
Rawls is best
Love Rawls! Always challenging!
NOTE: Be careful when looking for balls in the native grass this time of year!!! We saw a huge rattlesnake!
my only concern were all the dead animals lying around the course
