TPC Harding Park ranks among the most famous municipal courses in the country, along with Torrey Pines South and Bethpage Black. TPC Harding Park, which is part of the San Franciso Recreation and Parks Department, hugs the shores of Lake Merced in close proximity to the Lake Merced Golf Club, The Olympic Club and San Francisco Golf Club. Dating to 1925, it has a long history of tournament golf among its stately Monterey Cypress trees. Byron Nelson won back-to-back San Francisco Opens in 1944-45. The PGA Tour's Lucky International in the 1960s attracted winners such as Gary Player (1961), Gene Littler (1962), Jackie Burke Jr. (1963), Ken Venturi (1966) and Billy Casper (1968).

After falling on hard times, the course received a $16-million renovation in 2002-03 that brought it back into the tournament fold, hosting the 2005 World Golf Championship-American Express Championship, the 2015 WGC-Match Play Championship, The Presidents Cup in 2009, the Charles Schwab Cup Championship from 2010-12 and the 2020 PGA Championship, its first major.

missed tee time--need warning from GolfNow

i was stuck in traffic so got to the course 5 minutes before tee time. I was informed that my time had been canceled since I needed to be there 15 minutes early. This was not noted on the reservation confirmation I received from you. Please make sure you warn your customers about this from now on!

They Play big events here don't they?

Course layout is fabulous, with lots of shot-making required. Greens can be devilish, but hit the right spot and they will reward. Staff is friendly, they make a heck of a Bloody Mary and it's Harding Freakin Park! Put on your big boy pants and Play It!

Enjoyable Course

We've been wanting to play this course for a while so we were really looking forward to playing. The day went well, course is very nice, pace was a little slow due to the heavy play. Condition of the course was good. We were really surprised at the driving range that had mats instead of a grass hitting area...and, the range reminded us of a typical muni. Overall, we are glad we played at Harding Park but don't think it's worth the price for non-residents.

Good course, definitely a muni.

This is obviously a good golf course. You definitely can tell you're at a muni though so if you're expecting something on par with other high end San Fran courses, you may be disappointed. 4 stars, but wouldn't be 5 stars with the $150 fee.
