TPC Harding Park - Harding Course
About
TPC Harding Park ranks among the most famous municipal courses in the country, along with Torrey Pines South and Bethpage Black. TPC Harding Park, which is part of the San Franciso Recreation and Parks Department, hugs the shores of Lake Merced in close proximity to the Lake Merced Golf Club, The Olympic Club and San Francisco Golf Club. Dating to 1925, it has a long history of tournament golf among its stately Monterey Cypress trees. Byron Nelson won back-to-back San Francisco Opens in 1944-45. The PGA Tour's Lucky International in the 1960s attracted winners such as Gary Player (1961), Gene Littler (1962), Jackie Burke Jr. (1963), Ken Venturi (1966) and Billy Casper (1968).
After falling on hard times, the course received a $16-million renovation in 2002-03 that brought it back into the tournament fold, hosting the 2005 World Golf Championship-American Express Championship, the 2015 WGC-Match Play Championship, The Presidents Cup in 2009, the Charles Schwab Cup Championship from 2010-12 and the 2020 PGA Championship, its first major.

Perfect Course
As all ways! Harding is the Best in SF! Perfect Weather! And the course is well maintained.
Awesome
This was our second time here. Wonderful golf course. San Francisco brings a whole new gem when it comes to golf courses. Harding was simply beautiful. Douggiefresh and I had a great time and met some true people. Keek and Eric who we played with. We had a great time! Fairways dialed out. Rough was real rough. Greens could have been a little faster. Overall awesome track with great history. I highly recommend playing. I wanted to go back the next day to play it again!!
Worth it if you get a deal
It's worth it if you get a deal from Golfnow ($68 with cart) otherwise a pretty expensive round for non-residents.
Course conditions are great as to be expected for a TPC course but the greens were running slow.
Pace of play was slow. We waited on every tee box,
almost did not finish due to lack of daylight.
18th Hole is one of the tougher and better holes.
HARDING PARKING WAS HARD
In what I thought in the beginning was going to easy scoring with postcard scenery on the most beautiful course in Northern California, if not the Northwest turned out to be one of championship challenge of which I had notable protest. First of all, a public course should never give everyday players a 580 yrd par 5 and not expect slow play will be created. Also, the slight undulation of fairways and unpredictable greens made the ability to birdie and par on a regular basis nearly impossible, nonetheless,it is by far, S.F. best course, even though breaking 80 will have to be lifted up 2 Tiger, Phil, Rory, Sergio and friends because those guys are good.
All temp green. putting holes in the middle of fairway.
The course and setting was good. However, there was no comment about temp. green on the day, Warning mentioned only bunkers are out of play. Temp greens were about 50 yards in front of real green and they were just holes in the middle of fairway for all 18 holes. Almost gave up the game after the 2nd hole but decided to practice driver and have a cart ride.
Lovely course
Even with the temporary 18 greens and no bunker plays, the conditions of the course was great. Of course the amazing weather had a great impact on the round itself. The practice facilities were well managed and catered to. All in all, I would play here again in a heartbeat. The new greens and bunkers are opening up by the end of this week so I'm sure it'll be a great course once its up and running. Looking forward to my next round here!! :)
Course under construction
I wasn't aware until after booking that this course is under major renovation. Bunkers were all out of play and all greens are under repair so we were playing at make-shift greens in middle of fairway. Essentially made putting a waste of time. Staff wasn't generally pleasant to interact with. Even once construction is complete, I'm unlikely to return.
Temporary greens
Temporary greens but the tee boxes and fairways were in great shape.
Great Facility
Overall the course and facilities are excellent, the only problem at the moment is that there are temporary greens as the regular greens are being overhauled hence the reduced green fees.
Very scenic.
Always enjoyed myself there. Can't ask for a better venue. Love everything about the course. I wish they serve better food especially during lunch.
Ugly and unfriendly
They were redoing the 18 greens when we played but did not tell us until we got to the course. The staff was very unfriendly. Not worth even half the 'discounted' rate we paid.
Course under reconstruction
Temporary greens but the tee boxes and fairways were in great shape.
No Warning of Green Reconstruction
As a longtime user of GolfNow, we were very disappointed to find out that every green on our recent round at Harding Park was under construction, necessitating using poor temporary greens throughout. We would not have played here if we had known and there was no flagging of a "course alert" on the GolfNow pages.
We count on the golf courses and GolfNow to be upfront and honest when there is anything other than normal conditions and this was not done.
A classic resurrected, better than original
This historic golf course has never looked better. Sure, it gets beat up from time to time with all the rounds that are played there, but it was in great shape when I played it and super interesting. I love the finishing stretch, especially the 18th, where you have to hit a strong tee shot and challenging approach with water left. The trees are majestic, the fairways challenging to hit, and the greens aren't that easy to read. It's easy to see why this has played host to some big events lately, and it should get more of them down the road.
Temp Greens
Couldn't believe price on GOLF NOW. Did not know all 18 greens where being re-done with all temp greens.
TPC at it's finest!!!
What a great course! No need for a cart as it is easy to walk and carts have to stay on the path anyways. We hit some bad weather in SF as there was a frost delay but enjoyed our time in the well stocked pro-shop and great views of the 18th hole having breakfast. We played right after the SR PGA rolled thru so the course was in great shape. Be aware that we played before they started to re-do ALL the greens yes ALL the greens so I wouldn't play here until mid-May. Got paired up with 2 great local guys and had a blast - will play here again.
not great! just good
well, we were so excited to play this course because of all the different pga tournaments held here and the bay area weather in the winter time. however, when got to the first hole we noticed that the course greens were being renovated!! temporary holes kinda bummed us out, for it was not shown on the golfnow website, we just thought $35 was a good deal. It would have been much better to play it with the normal greens instead of putting on the Fairway!!!
One course while I'm in San Francisco?
Being from the Bay Area, I get that question a lot. I don't hesitate sending them to Harding Park. What had fallen to the tests of time and a lack of TLC, has become my favorite TPC. Rescued by Sandy Tatum, Charles Schwab, the PGA Tour and local taxpayers, this former stomping ground of golf icons such as Eddie Lowery and Ken Venturi is back to hosting everything from tour players to local school teachers. On any given Sunday, tee it up with plumbers, doctors or decorated juniors honing their skills playing a course that looks across Lake Merced at Olympic Club's famed Lake Course. They have layered green fees, catering to locals and charging a little more if you're from out-of-town, but regardless, for what you get, and for golf in one of the greatest cities in the country, it's all good value. The air is think in San Francisco, so club up to some of the slightly elevated greens. And if you need a warmup or extra holes after your round, consider the par 30 Fleming 9, which was added to the property in 1961.
great course, but very slow pace of play
I play 11/30 which is a Saturday, and 12/4 Wednesday again, Saturday was way too slow, only finished 13 hole, but on Wednesday I finished 18 only less than 4 hours, weekend pace need to improve much much more, for a great course like this. Over all still a woderful public course to play,
