TPC Harding Park ranks among the most famous municipal courses in the country, along with Torrey Pines South and Bethpage Black. TPC Harding Park, which is part of the San Franciso Recreation and Parks Department, hugs the shores of Lake Merced in close proximity to the Lake Merced Golf Club, The Olympic Club and San Francisco Golf Club. Dating to 1925, it has a long history of tournament golf among its stately Monterey Cypress trees. Byron Nelson won back-to-back San Francisco Opens in 1944-45. The PGA Tour's Lucky International in the 1960s attracted winners such as Gary Player (1961), Gene Littler (1962), Jackie Burke Jr. (1963), Ken Venturi (1966) and Billy Casper (1968).

After falling on hard times, the course received a $16-million renovation in 2002-03 that brought it back into the tournament fold, hosting the 2005 World Golf Championship-American Express Championship, the 2015 WGC-Match Play Championship, The Presidents Cup in 2009, the Charles Schwab Cup Championship from 2010-12 and the 2020 PGA Championship, its first major.

Over priced and over rated

$240 green fee, range balls not included, cart not included…so it ended up being $300 just to play….after we got our carts they told us it was cart path only….then the Marshall found us two different times and told us to speed up because we were 10 minutes behind pace….when we returned the carts there was no club service and when we checked in there was no bag service….the amenities are all super dated….clean but clearly over 20 years old. This place is highly overrated and outrageously priced for the level of service and amenities offered. They are able to do this by being one of only four courses in the SF area.

Great golf course...

A very satisfying game of golf. Nice sunny day, some breeze from the west, good company, and the golf course was in great shape. I beat my handicap score by 6 shots.. That made my day.

Course is in bad shape

Expected a whole lot more from this course, especially for the price. Fairways were patchy, tee boxes uneven. Nothing too terrible, but for what you’re paying (and given the reputation and championship history of the course), it’s most certainly not worth it. Hope to come back and adjust my review once the course sees some better care.

Greens were literally absolutely horrendous

I paid $150 as I’m not an SF resident. The greens were as bad as I’ve seen at a 25 dollar muni. Spotty, not true, slow, bumpy and diseased?? Some softball sized dead areas on the greens..

Tee boxes not flat. Fairways and bunkers were nice.

Staff was amazing. Pro shop to Marshall. Our GPS on the carts died after three holes. The Marshall was Very professional, offered to get us new carts. Beverage cart person also a professional..

it could be a great course. It’s not at this time.

Slow pace, slower greens

We were stuck behind a group and even after alerting the player assistant spent a lot of time waiting. Greens were incredibly slow. Still such a fun course to play and the weather was perfect

Perfect Day

Spectacular place. The greens were recently punched, so that took away from the experience. It also allowed me to get a tee time so it was a wash. Great history here.
