Monarch Bay Golf Club - Tony Lema Course

Beautiful day by the bay. Unfortunately groundskeeper decided to over due it by over irrigating course.Fairways ,green soggy. Not sure what groundskeeper was thinking. Won’t be back anytime soon.

Summary - Don't bother until they get their act together.

First time playing this course and unfortunately the last. I'm always looking for new courses and will give any course a second chance, but not this one. They're putting groups out in 8 minute intervals and loading 4 groups of 4somes in front of 2 and 3somes. It was a clown show. The pro shop was friendly, the starter was nice. Got out 15 mins late, waiting on every hole for fairway to clear, then drive to the next tee box and find the people in front of us waiting for the group in front of them. Nobody was playing ready golf, nobody acted as if they were holding up the entire course. The marshals were there, but not keeping the pace of play. After almost 3 hours, I had finished 6 holes. I stopped, went to the pro shop to get some sort of refund or rain check and was refused. The guy running the shop argued with me that there wasn't 3 groups ahead of me on, waiting on the par 3 that I eventually abandoned. All around bad experience.

Started at 6:52, was the first group out. Would have finished in under 4 hours but they had a shotgun tournament starting on hole 13 at 9:30!! We had to wait 40 minutes on 13 while 2 groups (13A and 13B) went off. 20 minutes later (so 1 hour after playing hole 12), we finished the hole and I gave up and went home. Would have taken 2 more hours to play the last 5 holes. Who manages a course this way?

I can play this course once a month for my regular golf outing with family and friends

Paid a good price for a round late Thursday morning. Turns out we were about 5-6 holes behind a junior tournament. The youngsters played so slowly that we were stacking up 2 and 3 groups of players at every tee. We saw the juniors on the back 9 and the marshals were doing nothing to speed them up.We gave up after 9 holes, reported it to the pro shop. The people there just started to argue, so I gave up with them too. Won't be going back there any time soon.

Surprised that it is overwatered. It's a links course, let it dry out in the summer. My dad's tee shot on 17 plugged in the fairway grass short of the green! A ball plugging in early August is unfathomable but it is entirely possible here where it's overwatered and muddy in some spots under trees. It was very annoying sidestepping geese poop on the fairway, rough, and green on all 18 holes. Pro shop staff looked worn-out, uninspired. I guess I would to if I had to deal with sassy and grumpy old men everyday! There was a long line in the golf shop when I arrived because it looked like a new person was in training and the old golfers in line lost their patience. You could cut the tension in there with a knife. Same old men sounding rude in the pro shop couldn't even follow directions on how to get to the first tee, driving where they shouldn't have.

Not coming back because of the perplexing sogginess on the course, minefields of geese poop, and toxic golfers whose behavior rubs off on the staff

Slow play backed up 2-3 groups on front nine . Starter came out addressed the issue which was much appreciated. However I’m not sure it helped, but it was a good start and a rarity to see an active marshall addressing slow play. . Thank you for your efforts Mike

Everything is very good except for a lot of people.

Had a very nice day. The course is challenging especially the back nine.

Had a tee time for 2:04. Started said they were running 20-30 minutes behind schedule. Had to wait on every single hole. Front 9 took 3:00. Thankfully a lot of people couldn’t handle the pace and left before the back 9, so the course opened up a bit, but it still took 2:30 to get around. 5:30 round is ridiculous.

The course was running great. Greens were in good shape (solid 6.5/10) and we’re running fairly smooth. Wind played a huge factor and made the round extremely challenging.

Overall, a great layout and a fun and challenging course, but I don’t want to come back if it’s going to take 5:30 to get a round in.

Great course across the board. The location and layout made me think that I was playing in Europe. The high grass, bunkers, whirling winds off of the water, truly a great experience.
