Monarch Bay Golf Club - Tony Lema Course

Greens in very good shape. Bunkers are inconsistent. Some have sand others have mud. Played front 2X as back 9 was backed up 3 groups on 10.

Overall excellent day.

Course in excellent shape. Even though back nine started slow, was still able to complete in 4 hr 10 min.

Pace of play was much improved from last time. Greens in excellent shape

It has been a while since I played this course and was surprised by the overall condition of the tee boxes, fairways and greens. The rough around the tee boxes are still the same as before so you better get off the tee or consider it a lost ball. Played 7:08am tee times and went out as a two-some. Fairways were moist which is great considering some courses in the area neglect watering their courses. Greens rolled true. Best thing was we were done in 3.5 hrs! Will play again soon!

Monarch Bay is a very good and fun course to play.The holes are challenging but not too difficult.

The one drawback is the slow play.

If there are tournaments can the course post that ahead of time. Play took nearly 5 hours.

Booked a 756am 9/18 tee time on golf now, showed up at the course with my group and they said they had no record of our reservation. Showed my confirmation email and they needed up getting us out at 9am. Not cool this day and age being so out of sync with online booking.

Recommend calling the course to verify anything booked on line.

Lovely layout, beautiful scenery. Good greens and fairways. Tee boxes just ok. Good variety of holes...challenging but fair. Loved it and will go back. The earlier your tee time the better.

3 hours to play the front 9, enough said and on a week day. Completely overbooked and poorly managed. Never going back, too many other courses in the area where you can play without waiting an eternity on each hole for the 3 groups that we had in front of us on every hole! Shame on Monarch Bay for ruining a golf outing!!!

Monarch Bay is a fun course to play.

It has some challenging holes and some easy holes.

The wind makes it much more challenging.

The best place for golf enthusiasts with cool and beautiful scenery..

The course was absolutely beautiful- located right on the San Francisco Bay with amazing views. Course was in good condition and the holes were fun. Fighting the wind off the bay made the course challenging! I really enjoyed the course but my experience was completely ruined by pace of play. Management is so greedy they overbooked to an extent I’ve never seen before. The round took 6 1/2 hours! There were three groups on every tee, one on the fairway, and one on the green. EVERY HOLE. Shame on Monarch Bay for ruining the experience. It’s no fun for anyone when you overbook a course like that.

The weather was a good relief from the heat on the other side of the hills. Course is in excellent condition (avoid the extra long rough), greens were smooth. Only issue was with the cart, the battery died on 16 and the replacement died before I could reach the clubhouse.

first four holes went ok just waiting for the group in front of you then we came to the 2nd par 3 and there were 20 people waiting at the tee(no joke).When I called the front desk they said its always like that but it will clear up right afterword......it NEVER cleared up and was the most painstakingly slow round I have yet to play.Then there was this goofy older marshall that came out and said,"are you a 10 or under handicap?if not go ahead and hit when there on the green".I laughed and said really,I can still hit it to the green your kidding right?anyway he got flustered and drove up to the green and was waving me on to hit.I waited till they cleared the green hit a 5 wood and landed 8' from the hole.He then drove away....what a strange encounter I must say,anyway this course is alright but tends to always play slow it was just close and that's why we chose it.most the bunkers were ok which is better then some courses but still its pretty flat without much character for me,I prefer hill courses with elevation changes and ravines to keep you on your toes,but still if you can get a good rate here and don't mind the pace then this could be for you,does get windy towards the end of your round so the last 4 holes always play long

The course was excellent the pace of play was very poor. It was my buddy and I, they put a very slow 4 some in front of us and a on pace group behind us. The 4 some in front of us would hit bad shots drop another ball and hit again. Would not let us through, so we would wait 30-40 minute on each tee box. Extremely discouraging. But on a good not the course was in great condition.

I love this course. Second time I played. Recently played in Ireland, this course reminded me of an easier less windy Ireland course. I thought it was a great layout. On the bad side, got to the 7th tee and there were 11 people there. Need to work on pace of play

I don’t know if they were short staffed or not. But if you book early tee times the pro shop, bathrooms and range should be open more than 2 minutes before the first tee time. Somewhat disappointing to be early and completely ignored until tee off. Then it was hurry hurry. A little planning and foresight goes a long way.
