Monarch Bay Golf Club - Tony Lema Course

Excellent course with beautiful views. Was not windy when we played.

Course is well maintained.

Pace of play was extremely slow - 5+ hours. I am told that is atypical.

I will play here again. Overall, it was fun.

Greens are A+. Even the bunkers most of them were well raked and had plenty of sand. Real bargain!

this course is pretty good, for a muni. the greens are fast, and have subtle breaks. there is just enough fescue, to keep you honest & requires a bit of shot placement. also the bunkers dissuade from going for it in 2, on the par 5's. The one drawback: most of the bunkers have no sand.

The taller grasses bordering the fairways is no joke. Hit in there and don't bother looking. It's a fun course that's in range for most golfers to post a good score, with discipline and a steady approach. We got lucky and found a perfect sunny day with no wind in December. Being this close to the Bay, I could imagine some pretty stiff breezes. Very impressed with conditions of the course considering the time of year.

This is a very nice course. Next to the bay. Layout is good and the greens are in very good condition. The foxes around make it different. Friendly staff and most people just ready to have a good time. I visited the day before thanksgiving, the god news is tgiat I was able to get a tee time at a reasonable rate. Bad news is that there is basically no course management at all. It was painfully slow and the ranger never came around. My tee time was at 1:04 PM. And I was only able to get 13 holes. That is as bad as I have ever experienced. I will try again on Monday as I found that this is a very nice course and I should be able to get a good score as this is more of a forgiven course.

Views of the San Francisco bay and skyline make this an affordable hidden gem. Great layout, but conditioning needs improvement.

Weather was cool, not cold or perfect, but it can get very windy on the exposed holes near the bay.

Pace of play on the first 7 holes was painfully slow.

Overall, a unique links golf experience, highly recommended.

Everything about the course was close to perfect condition as it could be.My thanks to the superintendent and grounds crew for their care of the course. The condition of the greens was amazing.

I've never played Monarch Bay before but decided to take a chance after reading a few reviews of the course. After having played a very tight course under trying conditions, I wanted something a bit more open. Monarch Bay was fantastic. Conditions were perfect (70 degrees, no wind). We played fast (4 hours). Course was in good shape. Greens were very puttable, fairways well maintained. Tee boxes are a bit rough. Course layout is fantastic with a good mix of short and long holes. I'd definitely play it again!!

The course was in fairly good shape although the bunkers were very inconsistent - some with a good amount of sand, others not so much. The greens were well maintained and rolled nicely. The proshop staff and starter were very friendly and helpful. The staff in the grill were not at all, terrible customer service. They were not doing anything other than sitting at a table watching tv and seemed bothered when I walked in. When asked if they might be able to make a breakfast sandwich without meat the answer was "no" as they are all "premade". It would also be great to see the rating/slope for women actually printed on the scorecard for the red, green and white tees.

The weather was beautiful, the course was in good shape and the greens were fast unfortunately the three foursomes in front of us were not as fast we waited for them on every hole.

We played in record heat and enjoyed the Bay breeze. It is a fun course with many scenic SF Bay views. Good value

The course has great views of San Francisco Bay as well as Oakland hills and beyond. Bring extra balls if you tend to miss the Fairway, the rough is truly rough, tall grass! Beware of the red foxes, they are known to steal your food and other items you leave in your cart. The day I played was pretty slow, this is a popular golf course.

My friends and I love the course and mild weather however we've all agreed that next time we play we'll just pack our own lunch. More than once the kitchen was slow, food over priced and quite unappealing. Attitude from the kitchen staff wasn't appreciated as well. I don't write reviews but felt I to say something as that was the only disappointing part of our day.

The course was ok, and play pace was a bit slow, but understandable for an average course.

But one hole was really annoying with aggressive foxes, which were seemingly after food we might have, but we didn't.

Obviously, we couldn't communicate with them that we didn't have any, and they kept approaching us.
