I've seen deers, rabbits and skunks on the fairway but not a fox....and this close! That's the fun part of playing golf, you don't know who will show up! Photo submitted by junbelara on 07/09/2013

Ryder Cup Format with our 2 groups Photo submitted by Matthew6624674 on 11/05/2012
Never disappointed
Good course, always enjoy it. They could use a little less water on the fairways if I have to nitpick.
Pace of play
The pace of play was ridiculous. It took us over 5 hours to play 18.
5:20 round
It was hit and wait all day. Maybe a Marshall out there could help... Views are great. Definitely no calm days out there but 15mph wind is calm for MB. Greens would be perfect if people just took care of their own. Perhaps a Marshall could help.
Long round
They had a tournament so our round took 6 hours.
Conflicted
Staff was excellent except for the course monitor. He needed some lessons on customer service. Everything else was very nice. We'll surely go back.
Very enjoyable experience!
My friend and I were paired with two great guys, fun to play a round with. Really enjoyed the links layout! Course was in good shape, with quick greens. Overall, a wonderful afternoon of golf.
6+ hour game
Well the actual course is very nicely laid out, well kept, and very challenging with the marina wind, the pace of play is atrocious!!! There are no marshals enforcing pace, took over 6 hours to finish my game (on a late Sunday afternoon). Also had the same problem when I played here on a Tuesday evening!
Monarch bay g.c. excellent layout, conditions and value
Monarch have bay offers superb links style golf experience.the greens were excellent and rhetoric fairways were very good. Highly te ommend.
Poor service
The staff here are a joke. Poor service. At least the greens were fast
Best deal in the Bay
Always a fun course played as a single and the group I was paired with played pretty slow. Ranger came up and said to pick up that pace. Always nice knowing someone is out trying to keep the pace up.
packed on a friday mid morning
our group was 5 minutes late for our tee time and for a friday mid morning, it was packed... starter was a bit rude right out of the gate. wind was strong, as it can be here and the rough just off fairway was too high. we can live with the long rough in links style sections but not just off fariway for normal play.
Food service and bar were very slow. not enough available carts for players
Watch out for local foxes as they have been overly domesticated and stole one players wallet and food from cart.
Course too challenging for high handicapper
I have been going to this course off and on for the past decade. I still get frustrated with the wind and other elements around the course. The wild foxes stole my friend's lunch, the squirrels stole my lunch, and the Canadian geese were everywhere and pooped all over the course. It was cold, the wind was blowing, which affected the flight of the ball and also the role of the ball during putts. Furthermore, the penalty for missing the fairway was too great as the rough consisted of grass and weeds 2 feet high and more. The putting greens were inconsistent as the surfaces were decent on some greens, but patchy on other greens. This also affected the roll of the ball, which caused me to miss easy putts. Even without the wildlife and weather, the course is difficult for high handicappers. It will be a long time before I play this course again.
Beat the heat by the sea.
Beautiful links style course. Fairways are fabulous. Roughs are tough as it should be. Very enjoyable day.
Nice July 4th
Views are great. Good value for your money.
Bunkers need some work
First Time at Monarch
Decided to give this course a try after thinking about it for many years and I'm glad I did. Played this course in around 4.5 hours which isn't bad for a weekend. The wait was minimal and they don't seem to pack in their tee times. We were off the 1st green before the group behind us even teed off.
The course itself was awesome when your looking at courses in that $60-80 range. Its definitely worth it. Its well kept and the greens were running good. You get some great views of the Bay Area on a few holes. Its challenging enough but can be easy for a low to mid handicapper. There are two short par 4s that are drivable if you gambled. #18, from the whites, was playing 289 to the center of the green with the wind in front and I drove it to the fringe in front of the green. There is also a monstrous par 4 as well. One that is 480 something yards and could have been a par 5.
Overall, a great course to play. There isn't a cart service, at least when I was playing. Great value.
Great Course, Less than Stellar Amenities
I played on a beautiful Sunday so the golf course was packed. The organization of the golf staff was pretty bad, there were not enough carts so people were teeing off late because they didn't have carts (I decided just to walk which was very doable) and from the looks of the driving range I was nervous about the quality course. Beyond that, everything went well and the course was in good shape. The greens rolled fast and true, the fairways were baked out and fast. Overall a very enjoyable round. If you do not care about what happens outside of the golf course, then this course is 100% for you as the course is great but the non-golf related pieces were missing.
Great links course
Nice change of venue compared to typical courses--links style. Greens are some of the best in the Bay Area.
Tough course made tougher by the daily winds !
Played course for the first time with 3 locals so I got lots of "local knowledge" during the round. The course isn't for the feint of heart. Gold Tees on a couple holes have 150-170 yard forced carries off the tees, there's a lot of bunkers and the winds increased throughout the day to the point the last 4 holes were into a 15-20 mph wall of wind. The locals said this is a normal occurrence and warned me after the first few holes. Course is challenging, but playable. No mercy if you're off the fairways on some holes, as the grass is so thick it's like walking on a 18" woven carpet. Overall, it was a fun, challenging course...but after 18, I felt the best words to describe how I felt was "beat up". Nothing as humbling as crushing your tee shot into the wind and having the GPS tell you it landed 210 yards off the tee. Took a lot of clubbing up and down and definitely takes you out of your comfort level. Would I play it again ?? Sure.....just take the locals advice and get out early in the day !
As for pace of play.....it wasn't great because we had a big group in front of us, with several first-timers. It just didn't look good when we were stacked up 3-deep on tee # 2, and the course marshall was 1 fairway over looking for balls out in the rough. I get it...I work as a marshall at a course in Sacramento....ball-hunting is a perk of the job....but it "just looks bad" when 3 groups are standing on the tee box. And..when he did emerge and drive past us, he commented that "we're working on it" (the slow groups ahead of us).......But to SOMEBODY's credit (not sure who)....by the 7th hole it was clear sailing......
