I've seen deers, rabbits and skunks on the fairway but not a fox....and this close! That's the fun part of playing golf, you don't know who will show up! Photo submitted by junbelara on 07/09/2013

Ryder Cup Format with our 2 groups Photo submitted by Matthew6624674 on 11/05/2012
Beat the heat by the sea.
Beautiful links style course. Fairways are fabulous. Roughs are tough as it should be. Very enjoyable day.
Nice July 4th
Views are great. Good value for your money.
Bunkers need some work
First Time at Monarch
Decided to give this course a try after thinking about it for many years and I'm glad I did. Played this course in around 4.5 hours which isn't bad for a weekend. The wait was minimal and they don't seem to pack in their tee times. We were off the 1st green before the group behind us even teed off.
The course itself was awesome when your looking at courses in that $60-80 range. Its definitely worth it. Its well kept and the greens were running good. You get some great views of the Bay Area on a few holes. Its challenging enough but can be easy for a low to mid handicapper. There are two short par 4s that are drivable if you gambled. #18, from the whites, was playing 289 to the center of the green with the wind in front and I drove it to the fringe in front of the green. There is also a monstrous par 4 as well. One that is 480 something yards and could have been a par 5.
Overall, a great course to play. There isn't a cart service, at least when I was playing. Great value.
Great Course, Less than Stellar Amenities
I played on a beautiful Sunday so the golf course was packed. The organization of the golf staff was pretty bad, there were not enough carts so people were teeing off late because they didn't have carts (I decided just to walk which was very doable) and from the looks of the driving range I was nervous about the quality course. Beyond that, everything went well and the course was in good shape. The greens rolled fast and true, the fairways were baked out and fast. Overall a very enjoyable round. If you do not care about what happens outside of the golf course, then this course is 100% for you as the course is great but the non-golf related pieces were missing.
Great links course
Nice change of venue compared to typical courses--links style. Greens are some of the best in the Bay Area.
Tough course made tougher by the daily winds !
Played course for the first time with 3 locals so I got lots of "local knowledge" during the round. The course isn't for the feint of heart. Gold Tees on a couple holes have 150-170 yard forced carries off the tees, there's a lot of bunkers and the winds increased throughout the day to the point the last 4 holes were into a 15-20 mph wall of wind. The locals said this is a normal occurrence and warned me after the first few holes. Course is challenging, but playable. No mercy if you're off the fairways on some holes, as the grass is so thick it's like walking on a 18" woven carpet. Overall, it was a fun, challenging course...but after 18, I felt the best words to describe how I felt was "beat up". Nothing as humbling as crushing your tee shot into the wind and having the GPS tell you it landed 210 yards off the tee. Took a lot of clubbing up and down and definitely takes you out of your comfort level. Would I play it again ?? Sure.....just take the locals advice and get out early in the day !
As for pace of play.....it wasn't great because we had a big group in front of us, with several first-timers. It just didn't look good when we were stacked up 3-deep on tee # 2, and the course marshall was 1 fairway over looking for balls out in the rough. I get it...I work as a marshall at a course in Sacramento....ball-hunting is a perk of the job....but it "just looks bad" when 3 groups are standing on the tee box. And..when he did emerge and drive past us, he commented that "we're working on it" (the slow groups ahead of us).......But to SOMEBODY's credit (not sure who)....by the 7th hole it was clear sailing......
Very Surprised
I took advantage of the Golf, Cart, Breakfast, Lunch and two beverage deal thinking that the course must be a little rough for the price.
I was very surprised that this course was a very good layout with great views of the bay and a great pace of play (4:10). We did play at 7AM so pace of play may have been dictated by less players on the course but my experience here was exceptional.
I'll be going back to take advantage of this deal again and will enjoy my game.
This course has a great offer
In the morning you get the option to include and all inclusive off which includes breakfast, lunch and 2 drinks.
The course and greens were well kept. Great conditions to play in.
Good course but slow play kills the fun
There are too many people playing poor golf and not enough marshals enforcing pace of play which means 5 - 6 hour play is normal at MB. With enough rain this year the course is in great shape. The price is reasonable which draws too many hackers and guys and gals looking for cheap place to play. If you can't stand waiting on every hole which pretty much guaranteed, stay away from this course.
Good fast greens
Best green fast in East bay. Have play most course in the east bay by far this is the best green
Great spot
Always maintained gold water well.
Don't get in a bunker after the rain though and there are 88 of them .
Immaculate greens.
Watch out for the foxes and squirrels they want you food......
Have fun FORE!!!!!
Best value in the bay area
Course is in excellent condition compared to all courses in the peninsula. The price is very reasonable which makes it one of the best value course around. Their deal with BF, Lunch, 2x beer and cart is totally unbeatable... Couple holes are long enough to make the course challenging. The views on a nice clear day are beautiful! Kudos to the management team.
Enjoy!
Course by the bay!
This is a great course with views of the bay and SF. Even tho this time we played with no wind, come ready to play in windy conditions at a long and challenging course with excellent greens. Go early and take advantage of the complete practice facility, because you will find sand filled bunkers (I wish every course had these!) and fast greens. Don't forget a little extra food for the friendly foxes!
Slow pace
I had a 12:30 start time and had to wait at every hole -sometimes up to 5 minutes or more. Then our group had to wait for each fairway shot too.
3.5 hours for 9 holes
Packed too many golfers on the course. Took 3.5 hrs to play 9 holes. No way I am playing on this course again. Totally NOT acceptable.
fun course
bunkers needed to be racked. greens were very nice. tee boxes were not good on most tee's. pace was a 4 hour round for 2nd group out. not good. we could have played in 3:15 in a cart no problem. $55 on weekend with a cart, breakfast burrito and 2 beverages is an awesome deal.
Very clean course
This is a very nice, well kept up course. It's A pretty good deal as well since our fees included breakfast, lunch, and two drinks. Not a bad way to start a Sunday.
Great views along the San Francisco Bay
tough test of golf ,bunkers guard the greens. Not very much sand in the bunkers though. Definitely worth playing!
What a surprise!
We were having a family reunion across the street in a lovely park and noticed this hidden gem. Our group was looking for a place to play the next day and blindly booked a tee time here not knowing what to expect. We had a 6am tee time and the weather couldn't be better. The course is well maintained and I truly loved the views of the bay and SF city. Only the 1st, 10th, and 11th hole have some trees and the rest of the course is like links style. Greens putted true and perfect speed. Staff was very friendly and pace of play was excellent. We will definitely return.
