One of the biggest greens in Bay Area. I paced it off at 75 yards long!! Photo submitted by aliikane10 on 07/14/2017
Challening Course
This was my first time playing this course. It's a nice course, but extremely challenging. We played on Labor Day and the course was crowded. They definitely could use a marshal out there to speed up the pace of play. We watched several groups search extensively for lost balls which seemed to be the cause of the back up. The greens were a little rough, but that could have been because it was late in the day over a holiday weekend? Narrow fairways so you have to be accurate!!
Great course and good design
Bridges is a challenging course but fair. Really fun course. Layout is very well designed and every hole is different. Off the tee the course is fair and you generally have one side to miss a tee shot. I think #16 is the biggest green in the entire Bay Area and it quite impressive. There are some quirky holes that have some large forced carries like #14 where you have to hit a iron off the tee short of the ravine (unless you can bomb it with at least 260 yard carry) then have a 190-210 yard shot to an uphill green. Not the best of designs but is the one-off of a well designed course.
It is especially tough when the wind picks up from the south. The course was designed predominately to have wind from the north-west so it when it blows from the south, it ticks up the difficulty.
Condition is pretty good considering the drought conditions. The greens are decent but slower than I like (I like them really fast so most can ignore this) and they do have a lot of pitch marks on the greens from a lot of play. Otherwise, they roll decent. Bunkers are very good in comparison to most public courses and they use very good sand.
Pretty good facilities. They have a great putting green that is gigantic and very undulating. Range is good but off mats.
First time @The Bridge
Played with 2 other young gentlemen.
Enjoyed the course, outings, nature, and experiences. Although we are having worst dry season ever, course was well kept. It is worth playing here and need to be very strategical about what you going to do. As a first time playing...we felt we could do better next time. (Who wouldn't?). Anyway great playing here....had more wind then I thought.
Good Test for Skilled Golfer
Played at noon, and paired up with another single on the first tee. The range is the best around. The fairways are lush and green despite the CA drought. Greens were mediocre, usually better. The course is extremely challenging yet fair if you play the correct shot. Pace of play was good considering how hard the course is. Skilled golfer will find this course a challenge, beginner may be frustrated. Good value for one of the most scenic courses in the East Bay.
Losing its luster
Hate to say this but The Bridges is slipping from the ranks of greatness. Each time out this very challenging
layout even for the low handicapper is slipping away from once fabulous course conditions.
Good condition
This is an interesting course. This round I played with a member that guided me around the course and it changed my opinion of the course completely. If you don't know the course it is really unfriendly....good shots get penalized, blind shots, etc. if someone tells you where to aim, etc, changes this course a lot...
Greens were sandy and slow, but rest of course was in excellent shape considering the drought....much better than I expected.
Difficult Course
Greens pretty torn up...no one repairs ball marks or divots. Many blind shots and difficult carry areas. Not a very fair design. Extremely challenging for mid and high handicap players. Nice, helpful staff...and beautiful views. If you play smart you can get survive!
Maintained well
Be prepared to hit the ball straight or with a draw (right to left) or you will be pulling prickly things from your pants and socks the rest of the round after trying to find your ball in a canyon. It's an advanced course with great par fives for a long hitter...otherwise, be thankful you scored par.
Last minute 4-some
Friendly staff, good course, but can be quite challenging. Bring extra golf balls.
Really?
The course layout is very bad, you forced to drive carts over curbs on cart paths several times a hole.. Really. Not cart path only. Very strange. A few holes you have to drive backwards towards players hitting balls behind you and over a curb to get to cart path. Very bad layout and not fun. Play anyplace else. Unbelievable and bad. Course is in ok shape. Greens poor. Overall bad golf course. But great cart person.
BOTTOM LINE, OVERPRICED AND NOT GOOD GOLF COURSE, REALLY NOT WORTH PRICE!
Good challenge
Have played this course 10 or 12 times and the course conditions are always good. That said, the area is consistently windy and the course design calls for well placed and executed shots with steep penalties for misses. Some fairways are wide and more forgiving while many are narrow. The rough is fairly narrow bordered by thick, unplayable brush throughout. Missing the fairway by 10 yards will more often than not lead to a lost ball. Premium is on placement and keeping the ball in play. Greens are undulating and generally roll good. Higher handicaps will find this to be a frustrating track and may run out of golf balls but better players will enjoy the challenge of being rewarded for good golf shots.
Continues To Be A Favorite
The Bridges is the total package, an excellent facility. The golf course is challenging, interesting, fun to play, and has a good mix of holes. It has fine practice areas (the best putting green I've seen anywhere), friendly & competent staff, and the facility looks beautiful. I always see and feel the high quality of The Bridges as I approach the entrance. It's a very pleasing place to play .
Bridges
Tough course, well maintained. Bring lots of balls...
The Bridges Experience
First, you must bring a lot of golf balls to play this course, you are going to lose a few. Some folks will lose a lot.
The course was in great shape, especially compared to other courses due to water shortage, they seem to have plenty of water for this course. The greens were in good shape but the slopes make it very difficult to putt.
Be prepared for a lot of hiking, the tees and greens all have approaches where you will be required to climb steep embankments.
The staff and facilities were outstanding, very friendly and helpful. Facilities are clean and well maintained.
It makes you think
Difficult course for the first time visitor. Tee shots are not as they appear and placement of your tee shot is imperative for a decent score. Hit it too far and it goes past the turn or runs out of fairway. Hit is to short and it does clear the barranca.
Greens are in above avg condition. Actually a bit slower than what you would expect. Fairways are in good condition but unfairly sloped sometimes even when you are in perfect position. The second time you play, you will shave 5 strokes, just knowing where to hit the tee shot.
This course is very hard
As a 15 handicap, I played from the gold tees. There we many holes where the fairway started at 180 yards. Many holes with forced carries on a par 4 the required a layup. May holes had blind shots and hidden hazards.
Great challenge for the money.
This golf course is tough yet rewarding if you hit your spots. They aerated the greens March 15th so they were still in rough shape. Fairways and greens were in great shape considering the drought. Bunkers were nicely kept and full of sand. You have to hit the ball relatively straight because of so many hazards around the fairways. It's a good and challenging golf course for the money. Will play again.
Humbling
The first time I played 2 weeks ago, I shot a 45 on the front 9 (average for me) with 2 birdies and 3 pars. This time was different. I lost 14 balls on the front 9 and didn't keep score. The wind made it tough to keep the ball in play. That said, we had tons of fun. I like the way you feel like you're the only person on the course due to the hills and trees. Lots of dog legs.
Read the reviews
I read the reviews prior to playing the course. The course truly isn't forgiving if you don't hit your spots so be prepared to lose balls if you're not accurate. I lost a few but the foursome in front of us was constantly looking for lost balls off course. Bring extras if you can't hit straight!
Some holes are like target golf where you have to hit certain areas to get to the next. Some of the holes are deceiving since you tee off above the course but luckily we got paired with a gentleman who knew the course well.
replay offer was a bait and switch
I have been playing this course from day one of opening. Was a very good couse with good management. Lately. Last few years. Well read on:
Last week Course offered a replay because greens were punched. When we played manager said it was 7 days since punching and no replay. The greens were in worse shape than when first punched. We were there. This course when in great shape is a $100 course. Unfortunately that was a long time ago. There are many other courses in far better shape for $35 or less. If you play as a group this course puts singles out all day. Meaning you need to let them play thru. Very poorly managed compared to previous years. Food service is non existant. Cant get hold of grill by phone. Apparently far to busy to take orders. There were 3 people in entire place when i went to physically order food. Expected a Tip Did offer to bring out to me 45 min later cold. Personally the only reason I am going back is that I do have a voucher from the first day after the punching.
Believe me i expect to get less value than the free round. If I could use ifree round somewhere else and pay say $30. I would go there
Whatever you do. Dont play on a weekend. Weekdays are bad enough. Hope i did not leave anything out. Oh they did have a cart person the first day we played. She was very pleasant and service oriented. The management does not know what service means. TIPS. TO INSURE PROMPT SERVICE. the lady at bar first day just expected a tip. The lady (different person ) at the bar the second day was very service oriented and very friendly.
Cant wait to see the sign. UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT
