Great course in North GA!!
I played this course because it has been on the Golf Advisor Best of GA list in 2015 and 2016. It is a very good course with wide landing areas and moderately quick greens that rolled true. It is a mountain course but is mostly flat with the Birch River winding through. Btw, this course was previously the Nicklaus Club at Birch River. I played the blue tees, 6400 yds, and a few holes were long for me. But there are other holes that are short with some risk/reward shots. I played on a Thursday and there was a cart girl available. I didn't eat at the grill. The staff was friendly and range balls were included. The bunkers had very fine sand but could use a little work as could the pond on number 3. Btw, I came within 2 and half feet of an ace! See the pic.
Hidden gem
UNBELIEVABLE COURSE, GREAT SHAPE , WELL TAKEN CARE OF!!!
Golden Bear Golf
First time to experience a Nicklaus course in Georgia. Good mix of risk/reward with generous landing areas for drives and challenging approaches. Playing conditions were ideal but do bring the mosquito repellant as the evidence of the good shots you make will be matched by the # of bites you take home. Good value for the money!
AWESOME
Course is a hidden gem, awesome course all the way around!!!!
A Wonderful Private Golf Course Known for its many Bridges
Firstly everyone in the golf club including player members are very warm and friendly.
As it was Sunday, the club house restaurant was closed early. However, we saw the cart girl diligently making her rounds 5-6 times on the course.
The course conditions such as the fairway and greens are in very good condition. Can't say much for the sand bunkers as it was raining heavily the night before and there isn't much sand. Though the course is not hilly but rather flat, the drainage system was pretty good into the surrounding streams & lakes.
Lastly, there's nothing much to shout about the course layout except for Hole #9 and Hole#15 which pose some level of difficulty.
Very beautiful course
It is an absolutely gorgeous course and fantastically maintained! I think it’s too expensive for most golfers, but well worth playing!
Great Course Design, Top notch experience!
The Achasta course design makes you want to play it over and over! The holes are challenging, have great views, are not frustrating, and you can always tell when the Golden Bear has designed a course. A great experience from beginning to end, played a 11am shotgun start and the pace of play was perfect, no rushing and plenty of time to enjoy! Will play again and bring friends!
Terrible Pace of Play
Have played 7 rounds and 5 have taken in excess of 5 hours. Staff is friendly, but does nothing to manage the pace of play. This is a nice scenic course and normally in very good condition. If you can handle hitting and waiting hole after hole, then this course is for you, if not, suggest to pass.
Achasta is buetiful
Achasta is designed wonderfully up in the north Georgia mountains. My group did a shotgun start here in december a really enjoyed the course. The mountains views where wonderful as well as the suberb practice facility. The course was in fabulous shape common designed courseS by jack Nicklaus. The course was great 11 was awesome and liked the 6th and 7th hole. The trees in the fall are buetifuel. There is not a hole lot of water on the course but water is put in the correct places. Overall this was a great experience at Achasta.
Good course, very slow pace
We played a shot gun start which took over 5 hours to complete. No Marshall on course to push group ahead of us, which had 3 holes open in front of them
All we heard when arriving at pro shop after round is it was busy today
Would definitely recommend asking golf pro about pace of play and if they have any marshals on course to monitor
Achasta
Very wet. Hole 10 virtually unplayable. Beautiful track in the valley of the north ga. Mountains. Right on the chattahoochee River water runs throughout the course. Give it a few days to dry out. Kid in golf shop seemed preoccupied. Not pleasant. Everyone else was very hospitable. A definate must play for north ga.
Another reason to take a golf trip to North Georgia!
Achasta is a Nickalus designed golf club that might be the most premiere course in the Dawsonville/Dahlonega area. The course is fairly open in some areas but there are many forced carries for approaches or tee balls that can become quite intimidating. The practice range and chipping area is ideal for sharpening up your game as its well-maintained and in great condition year round. They also oversees in the winter so its great to play on green grass in January and February. This is a must-play course for any golfer in the Atlanta area, the trip is definitely worth it!
Cart path only / very wet fairways
We played the day after what must have been an all day soaker the day before as the course fairways and some tees were sopping wet. There was no extra roll what so ever. It was cart path only on every hole. This made for long walk on most shots back to the cart, which is fine but distracted from the beauty of the course and the day. The conditions of the course other than all the standing water were excellent. The greens were rolling true and perfect. The bent grass really has responded well to the cooler weather of late. I will go back however the value is a little too lacking for me to play here every week. We enjoyed the course and will be back
Awesome again
This course never fails to please me! Great greens, great layout. Very walkable
Great track
Great layout along the Birch River - fairways, rough, bunkers, tee boxes were all in Excellent shape. Greens looked like they had been punched about 10 days ago and were still slightly bumpy (although they rolled better than they looked). Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Beer prices were excellent too (<$3/beer). Kitchen was closed so we did not eat there.
Overall, Definitely worth the long drive from ATL to play this course. We will be back soon.
One of the Best
Achasta is simply one of the better golf courses in North Georgia. Great layout, first class facilities, and good pace of play. The greens were a little long and soft the day we played as they were going to be punched on Monday; that was the only issue as the rest of the course was primo. I played lousy but still enjoyed the course and highly recommend. Not cheap but a fair price for this level of course.
great design
I would like to play the course again if the price was lowered
