Bear Creek Golf Club
About
Monroe's Bear Creek Golf Club is situated in the heart of Walton County. It's less than an hour from Atlanta, making it a conveniently close getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. The course originally opened in 1990 but in 2008 it changed ownership and underwent a major renovation that elevated its conditions to rival that of any of the area's best golf courses. The bunkers were rebuilt and re-sanded and the fairways were re-conditioned. Bear Creek G.C. has always been known for its excellent greens, which have a reputation for being some of the state's finest putting surfaces. The layout measures 6,585 yards from the back tees, which may seem short but there are some ups and downs throughout that will make it feel much longer.

Not so good
Rough extremely tall, at least 5”. We’re amateurs, not playing US open down here. Some greens need maintenance. Course layout is confusing.
I usually play here, neve this bad of course conditions.
Thick grass clippings everywhere
Greens with rough spots affecting ball roll
Cart paths are rough
Layout of course around the 15th confuses people, they often jump to the wrong hole next.
Tries to be great, comes out okay
The grass is cut but clippings are everywhere making it hard to find your ball. The cart paths remind me of Detroit roads in January. Potholes everywhere. They can clearly afford concrete since they use bags of it to block cart path only holes tee markers are inconsistent. Some holes only have one at each tee box, sometimes they're completely missing. It's not a bad course by any means but a bunch of small changes could make a big difference. There's only one trash can on each 9. There's no restrooms on the course. No ball washers. It can make a lot of small changes for a big improvement. But pace of play is a HUGE issue here. If a group has multiple open holes ahead of them, it shouldn't be everyone else's job to go around them, and Marshalls do nothing about it. When we asked what the hold up was, they simply said "it's Saturday" when in reality one group killed pace for everyone
A Day of Highs and Lows at Bear Creek Golf Club
My recent round at Bear Creek Golf Club was a rollercoaster of an experience, starting with a bit of a rocky beginning but ending on a high note that left me dreaming of my next tee time.
The day started off on the wrong foot when we arrived to find the course running about 30 minutes behind schedule due to a shortage of golf carts. To kill some time, we headed to the driving range. I was pleasantly surprised to be given a free bucket of balls, a kind gesture I'm sure was from the course manager. However, my spirits were once again deflated when I saw a sign stating that drivers were not allowed on the range.
Despite the initial wait, the starter was an absolute gem. Considering he had four groups backed up and eager to get on the course, he handled the situation with remarkable friendliness and professionalism. His calm demeanor was a great way to start the actual round.
As soon as we stepped onto the course, all the early frustrations melted away. This is truly a course of dreams. The tee boxes were meticulously taken care of, and the fairways were in immaculate, Augusta-like condition. I fell completely in love with the course. The layout is delightful and challenging, with tough greens that demand your full attention. The greens themselves are full of undulations and the pin placements are fantastic, keeping you on your toes with every putt.
A word of warning: bring extra balls! The rough here is tall and thick, and it will eat your balls up if you're not careful. Staying on the fairways is a must if you want to keep your score in check.
Overall, what more could you ask for? It's no wonder the course was backed up—it's tough and amazing. The course is so good that I'll be coming back, even though it's an hour away.
What hole am I on?
The course layout makes no since after hole 12. The scorecard doesn’t even match the layout. #17 par 3 is 77yrds with concrete tee box. Course fees are high enough the scorecards should be correct. Do not recommend
My Review
The overall course was nice and was well kept up except for hole 16, they had a concrete pad to hit off of for one tee. The course was all over the place there were signs but they where for the old holes, getting to the next hole was a mess. The feel like temps were in the 100's and there was no cart girl, water coolers and you didn't get to see the club house until you were on hole 16. I know we won't be back unless things change.
Great staff and course
Friendly front desk staff, she is always pleasant to deal with. The greens were an excellent condition and the fairways were super clean. The layout is a bit rough, especially all the par fives to start.
Pine hills of Monroe
This place has gone down hill drastically. I used to luv to play this course but it’s very decrepit now. Cart paths are more like sxs trails, tee boxes are in rough shape and hard as a rock, fairways brown and dying with very thin lies. Some of the greens are damaged looks like mold infestation. And no water on the course along with no cart girl so play at your own risk in this heat, not very friendly to the patrons. A lot of the bunkers have more gravel than sand. Won’t be returning anytime soon.
Great Golf!
My husband and I played this course and absolutely loved it. The staff was friendly and kind. We had a noon tee time and went early to see if they could get us off earlier since we had a long drive back to TN. They absolutely did. Does the course need a little work, yes, but for the price we paid totally worth it. I made a comment about how it was my birthday weekend and they gave me a shirt. It was a great place to golf. Would I play there again…HECK YEAH!
Lost balls
Second cut should be lower a few of us lost ball in fareway.
I think the critics are being a bit harsh
There are some very good holes on the course... Course is playing hard and fast for now. Goof group of par 3 holes
They are making improvements all the time
So i get the complaints about the cart paths and turning the 16th hole into a driving range with weak par 3 at end
They should at least change the numbers on the 15th and 16th holes .. I would still be looking for the 15th hole if i had not played with locals
If people think the 4th hole is the worst hole in Georgia.. they should play 14th at trophy club and 9th at St Marlo.
When the 2nd and 18th tee improve ments are done it will add some solid holes.
Sanded greens
Greens were just sanded but not smoothed out. Basically it was putting on the beach. Weather was terrible that day and raining but on hole 6 the greens worker turned on the sprinklers during my approach shot and left them on until I got onto the green. Seemed disrespectful to turn them on as my hitting into that specific green (while it was already raining..). Tee boxes were poorly kept as well.
Too Expensive
Greens and tee boxes were hard as concrete with tons of dead spots. Cart Path is destroyed and very rough ride all day. This was my first and last at this course. Not worth the money.
Renovations still underway
Pretty decent course that is still undergoing needed work. Cart paths need substantial repair. Course layout and conditions are generally good. The addition of the driving range was probably needed but appears to have caused some quirky layout changes like a sub 100 yard par 3 from artificial tees. Greens a little slow but decent. We had a 3PM Saturday tee time and there wasn't any slow play. I wouldn't pay $75+ for this course but it was fine for $50.
I will say that holes 4 and 13 are two of my least favorite golf holes on the planet.
