Monroe's Bear Creek Golf Club is situated in the heart of Walton County. It's less than an hour from Atlanta, making it a conveniently close getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. The course originally opened in 1990 but in 2008 it changed ownership and underwent a major renovation that elevated its conditions to rival that of any of the area's best golf courses. The bunkers were rebuilt and re-sanded and the fairways were re-conditioned. Bear Creek G.C. has always been known for its excellent greens, which have a reputation for being some of the state's finest putting surfaces. The layout measures 6,585 yards from the back tees, which may seem short but there are some ups and downs throughout that will make it feel much longer.

Not worth it

Showed up around 30 minutes early, was given a cart and paired randomly (which is normal). Tee time was 11:10 and when we got in line at 11:10 we had 8 carts in front of us waiting to tee off. Couldn’t tell the difference between the rough and the fairway, greens were average, cart paths were potholed everywhere and non existent in some areas. Pace of play was terrible. Took us over 6 hours to play 18. Every tee box was backed up with people. Cart girl and staff were very friendly, although none of the cart drinks were on ice, they were just in the cooler of the cart. Multiple holes had construction type work being performed with one of them being muddy with excavation equipment sitting on it. Definitely not the course I remember playing years ago. For what I paid would be worth going somewhere else.

Finn Scooters are the move fun I’ve had golf

A couple friends and I rented the Finn Scooters for our round. They were so much fun. Gonna have a hard time going back to the standard golf cart. The course was in good shape. Staff was great!

Marshall needs revaluation

Marshall came out when I was on the 9th hole and told me there was a 3 hole gap in between myself and the group in front of me. He told me the next group was on the 12th hole and that my group needed to pick up the pace. Although at this point we were right on track to play a 2 hour 9. I sped up my pace of play which of course caused me to play worse. I even skipped getting food at the club house on the turn to hurry up. Get to the 10th hole and there is a group on the fairway… left a sour taste in my mouth the rest of the game and played horribly. Won’t be back for a while, if ever…

Windy weather
Used cart

Booked a foursome and one guy didnt show and they charged me.

I like this course but on Masters Saturday the overbooked the course and we had to wait on the tee box for nearly 40 mins. One of our guys didn't make it and they charged my card for the no show. I've used Golfnow since the beginning and this is the first time I was charged for a no show. What a rip!

Nice Course-Overbooked

Loved the course. Going through some renovations and upgrades. Parking lot too small and had to park down the road. T time delayed an hour due to over booking and waiting for carts to be ready. Overall a good experience with nice clubhouse and cart services that came around about every 4 holes. Would go again. Just not happy with a one hour delay on t time.

In terrible shape

I hope the problems are because they are remodeling the course, but it was awful. Sand and dead spots all over the fairways and some greens. The layout is terrible and the signage is terrible so you get lost. They had a couple of what looked like temporary holes just stuck in. One par 3 was right behind the driving range and you had to hit off a mat. Most of the tee boxes were baren dirt with no grass at all and not level. I don't think I had a flat level lie on a single tee box. The course is just in really poor shape and that doesn't even speak to the over one hour behind they were after setting tee times 5 minutes apart until noon and running out of golf carts. I won't be playing here again.

Just So, So ...

As I hadn't played this course since it was known as Woodlake back in the early 2000s, I figured I would give it a shot. I must say I was disappointed. The course is a bit run down. to start with, the cart paths need some serious work done to them; they have completely fallen apart. The driving range also needs to have tee boxes where you can at least hit off a tee (use rubber tees under the mats like real driving ranges at the very least.) Also, the course layout was confusing. We had to drive from what seemed like another zip code to get from hole 15 to 16, only to find the tee box on 16 was a cement platform with carpet on it, hitting down to a small par 3. The drive to 17 was then crazy long. The greens were in fairly good shape. Several greens contained sand to firm them up I suspect as the summer golf season is now upon us and the use of the greens will be more consistent. Lastly, a little aggravating but we tee'd off a full 30 minutes after our tee time. Overall, not a great value for the $73 paid.

Joke!

This is getting ridiculous at this course. Late teeing off for whatever reason. Started 30 minutes late and they ran out of carts. They need to buy more friggin carts and stop making tee times when they have a shot gun start. Definitely considering not playing this course again.
