Monroe's Bear Creek Golf Club is situated in the heart of Walton County. It's less than an hour from Atlanta, making it a conveniently close getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. The course originally opened in 1990 but in 2008 it changed ownership and underwent a major renovation that elevated its conditions to rival that of any of the area's best golf courses. The bunkers were rebuilt and re-sanded and the fairways were re-conditioned. Bear Creek G.C. has always been known for its excellent greens, which have a reputation for being some of the state's finest putting surfaces. The layout measures 6,585 yards from the back tees, which may seem short but there are some ups and downs throughout that will make it feel much longer.

Slow start, picked up as we went

Had a great time golfing this course. It was a little slow at the first tee box but as we got rolling the pace picked up.

Not welcome for hot deal customer

They are not welcome for golfnow hot deal customers and hold till reserved tee time. Even no one tee off for nearly 37 minutes. We asked the counter person to leave early because no one was playing in front of us, but "HOT DEAL DISCOUNT CUSTOMERS HAVE TO PAID DIFFERENCE OR WAIT. THIS IS THE OUR RULE."

I will not go back to this golf course again.

Bear Creek Golf Club

The course itself is in good shape. However, the pace of play was terrible. Started around 10 minutes past our tee time. Was waiting at least 5-8 minutes at each hole. Got done in over 5 hours.

Very disappointed, glad I had a coupon!

The staff was friendly but no one seemed to be ready for it to be busy. Tee off was 18mins behind, they didn’t have enough carts to start on time. W e didn’t see a starter anywhere. The signage was terrible around the entire course, including the yard markers. Even the score card didn’t have a course layout which would be helpful with the course being tight and hilly. The course was dried and and very hard, you feel like you are hitting off mats. The lone bright spot was the cart girl came by Atleast 4x which was shocking. Normal cost for our 10:44 tee off was $55. I would have had to ask for partial refund if I paid that much. Maybe it was just an Ill prepared day for the course.

Extremely Firm Course

Without much rain in the past few weeks the course has dried out, making the fairways fast and the greens too firm. Ten- and fifteen-foot bounces on wedge shots landing on the greens resulted in chip shots from behind the greens. Fortunately, they are working on the water system to take care of the problem. The course is still very playable if you target shots short of the greens or on the very front of the greens. Otherwise, the greens are in great shape and very fast. The extremely challenging rating should drop as soon as the dry conditions are addressed.

Not my first time here but - first time something like 20 years ago

First of all it is amazing to play golf and see maybe 20 deer just roaming around. The course is in really nice shape for one month into spring. The course layout is fun. Playing from the white tees ( I’m 64 years old ) many holes do not require a driver off the tee. One really annoying thing that does stand out is the pace of play. A ranger to keep things moving along could save 30 minutes if not more. The scenery is nice for sure. A second round here or playing with someone who has played here recently would be beneficial. You would definitely know the shortcuts or maybe the spots to stay below the hole. We will be back. Sure hope the round does not take as long next time. Hire a ranger - great investment !
