Golf Club At Wescott Plantation - Oak Forest Course
About
Situated in the heart of Lowcountry, the Golf Club at Wescott Plantation is part of one of the area's oldest plantations. There are 27 holes of golf available at the club, which are divided into three nine-hole courses: Oak Forest, Burn Kill, and Black Robin. Although each golf course has a different character and scenery, they are all dappled with centuries-old live oaks and wetlands. The Oak Forest Course takes its name from the original plantation and has wider fairways than the other two courses. Lush vegetation frames each hole and the classic bunkering embodies the traditional feel of the course. The eighth hole is the signature hole of the entire golf course, distinct for both its scenery and difficulty. Par will be tough on this par 3 with a lake bordering the entire left side.

Fariways were concrete
Wescott is a beautiful course, the people are friendly and the locals I was placed with were great. The course was in very bad shape. The tee boxes were brown, fairways were like concrete, as were the aprons. Greens not much better. Even the locals were surprised at the course condition. I played 3 other courses that week, all were in much better shape.
Really, really bad conditions
Greens are very unpredictable, and the fairways have no grass to them. It is very tough to get under the ball with any kind of wedge shot, because of the lack of grass. There are grounds under repair throughout the course, but never any maintance staff (they do however have the labor hours/monies to pay several clubhouse employees. I would only play this course if it's significantly cheaper than all other area courses...which it rarely is.
Nice to have three different 9 hole courses to change things up.
There was a small scamble tournament in front of our group which we caught up to. It was a little slow, but not that bad really. However, the starter came and found us. He told us to play Black Robin at the turn, which was closed, so that we didn't have to wait. Very nice gesture.
greens in great shape
greens in great shape, some tees should be closed for repair.
With 27 holes the pace of play should not have been an issue. I called clubhouse . Reply was not what I was looking for "We were overloaded this morning not much we can do about it" Well myself and playing partner gave up after 12 holes it was so bad. In the ride to the club house we were able to identify many reasons for back ups.
Awful conditions, horrible pace of play
If you are looking to play a round in 6 hours than you have found the course. For the second time in the last three rounds there I quit before finishing due to having to wait on every shot. The course was in nice shape in september of 2012 but has been on a downward spiral ever since. I understand the weather has been lousy in Charleston but the conditions of the course right now are not even worth the cheap price of 20 bucks. My advise is stay away, i will not be back for a LONG time, if ever.
Nice Track
Played after a rainy week, and course wa ib good shape. Clubhouse is being renovated so can not comment. Will play there again.
Good course, challenging
Course was in good shape for a February afternoon. Only issues was that I was in a foursome, we teed off after a twosome and before two more twosomes and a single. We ended up waiting on a couple holes to let them play through. And the single just drove through. What good is a starter, if he isn't going to pair up the twosomes on a busy weekend afternoon?
Very good winter course.
16 handicap senior played from Green Tees. Very decent for winter golf and greens in nice winter condition. Helps to play with a member as some holes require course knowledge to manage one's game. Can't beat the golfnow.com special at $25 for a course as good as this one.
Very nice course
I played Wescott on Feb 2nd, teed off at 12:30 and played the front as a 3some in 1:45, slowed down a little on the back but still a sub-4 hour round on a Saturday. Course was in great condition, it is winter so I didn't give it the top rating but I'm sure when it greens up it will be pristine. Greens were fast but it was very hard to hold an approach shot on the green, you had to play it short and let the ball bounce onto the green to get it to stay on. Course has a moderate amount of water and sand so you need to be accurate or a hazard will bite you. I enjoyed the course and will definitely be back.
Not as tough as your eyes want you to think
Nice course, can be challenging if you don't find the fairway but its not very tough. Very fast greens but big enough to compensate for miss hits. Fairways are pretty wide so it's as tough as you make it. Unless you can put tons of back spin on the ball or have a high ball flight, NEVER go for the flag or you'll be off the green.
Greens were Awesome!
The greens were in phenomenal shape!!! Best bargain in Chas.
At $25!!!! In Jan. highly recommend it!!
Maybe be the best city owned course you will play.
I have played the course over a dozen times. It is always in good shape, very friendly and courteous staff, and fairly priced.
great deal excellent conditions
it is winter but the greens are green and putt true. fairways are brown as would be expected this time of year but well cut. Will play again and will not hesitate to recommend to anywone
well maintained
for this time of year, I thought the greens were in really good shape. still could be a little quicker but we have had lots of rain.
I like the challenge that Burn and Black provide. Oak is also a good warm up for the Black side. All around great course
Not Bad for a Beautiful Day in January
Play was slow, but everyone was out on a warm sunny Saturday in January. Staff was pleasant despite the crowds. Course was in good but not fantastic shape.
Great course . Tough greens.
The course was in great condition. The greens rolled very well, but they were tough to read. I love the layout of the course. If you like fairway bunkers this course is for you . Overall I had a great exsperinece.
Greens were excellent
Course was in greta shape; interesting and challenging pin locations; decent pace of play; staff very friendly
It has always been one of my favorite courses...
Good to close out 2012 on the greens here in Charleston, SC.
A good course to play.
A good and fair test from the blue tee markers. Course condition was ok given that it rained heavily the day prior and its winter.
great outdoor venue
wildlife enjoyed the course as much as our party did. course was challenging but no so much that it was difficult to play.
