Sllllooooooooowwwwww pace
Wednesday late morning tee time I found out real quick was a big mistake. I was behind 4 seniors groups playing ohhh boy I must have taken a nap in between holes a few times. Over 5 hours to finish. A few really nice holes with nice greens and the rest seem to be infested with some kind of decease. The drought has definitely left its mark on the fairways and some greens. Ballmarks left on the green near the hole are plenty. Also watch out for workers screwing around on golf carts like they own the place.
The course has friendly staff members
Picture perfect day for golf. We were a twosome, and another twosome asked to join us - we ended up having a blast. We were held up on holes 7, 8. And 9. Fairways and greens were in good shape. Would recommend open tab policy on credit cards. The time it took to write up credit card slip manually took far too long and contributed to holes being backed up. May want to add another beer cart on weekends. Never saw the beer cart until the 9th hole. Stock up beverages before you head out.
Some good, some not so good
Hadn't played Woods Valley for years, course is better maintained than in the past but still has a long way to go.
Could be an excellent course with a little water and some better maintenance. It always is a shame to see that many operators don't take a little more pride in their product.
Tougher than it looks
Haven't played her for quite some time. This course will pad your handicap, that's for sure. Beautiful layout, lots of bunkers, forced carries and water. All make for a nice but interesting round. We teed off at noon and got done at 4 p.m. If you are hungry after the round, a rib rack called Fat Ivor's is just down the street and has the best ribs I've ever had, plus it's all you can eat.
i usually don't lose balls on the course, lost four here. I'll be back soon to see how many more I can lose.
My first round.
It was all that I expected. Been wanting to play this course since the first time I saw it. Layout is in my favorite style with lots of up and down challenges. My new favorite course!! Recent aerating was the only exception from this being a perfect 5-star review. Can’t wait ‘til it’s recovered completely. Thank you to Bill, the Starter (didn’t catch his name), and the Marshall (for this particular day). Their friendliness added to a great day!
Greens were a little slow
A foursome in front of us was SLOW. Greens were slower than usual. Still a great course.
Course is in good shape
I thought the greens tees and fairways were all in good shape and green which is sometimes hard to find this time of year. Ball runs a lot on fairways and greens will hold for pitch shots. Good course for the value.
Secluded and Quality
Located back in the deep woods of Valley Center/Woods Valley I was surprised at the quality and difficulty. The 2 nines are "extremely" different and a very nice change. Make sure you are up on your "target golf"....this course demands accuracy. Very fun and enjoyable day. The pace of play would be my only criticism.....but then again it was Saturday morning, Still not a good reason for a 5 hr. round!!
Woods Valley is a great course with challenging holes and good conditions.
There are still a lot of choices for golf in north county. Woods Valley is my goto course. I really enjoy the layout. Many challenging holes to test your game. When I get around with one ball, I know I've had a decent round.
There are holes that will eat your lunch if you are not accurate off the tee. 6, 10 and 15 are good examples.
If you like a challenge you should enjoy Woods Valley.
Just right!
Woods Valley is a great mix of challenges. The two nines, front and back, almost play like two different courses -- the front is mostly wide and long, more like a links course, while the back is windy, hilly, and tree-filled. It's one of my favorite local courses.
Only downside: if you use the GolfNow GPS tracking, it confuses the fairways/greens on holes 9 and 18 (#9 fairway shows yardages to #18 green, and vice-versa).
Woods Valley is always a great value, the staff is outstanding, and the course is kept in great shape. Worth the drive to the "country."
Nice course, good value with Golf Now
It was my first time playing the course and I thought it was a well maintained, pleasant but challenging layout. We played late in the day, 3:10pm and for most of the round didn't have any issues with pace of play but strangely, we had to wait on several holes toward the end of our round. This shouldn't have happened as there was absolutely no one if front of the group that was holding us up. Over-all, this course is worth playing and I would play again.
Quality course
For the price, there is no better course I have played here in SD. The front 9 is completely different to the back 9 which I loved. The course was in great condition. I highly recommend taking a visit to this course. Will be back next week.
