Late Tee Time
I'm giving bad experience due to a
Tournament causing late tee time!
Otherwise not bad and it is a challenging
Course for beginner but fun...
Warren,
Fort Worth Texas
Pace of play was slow
Pro shop could use some help. Marshales speeding up play would be beneficial. Layout of course was nice with challenging holes. Need more yardage markers.
Worth the drive
I took a detour on the way home to play nine holes and ended up getting in 18. The course was in good shape and has some very interesting holes. Overall it is a great value.
A Great Course
Came down for a few days of golf and a concert, and wow what a nice course! Started on the back nine and first 2 holes were very tough, but was able to par both, and went on to have a good round! I will certainly play here again!
Tougher than it looks
Excellent fairways, good greens and interesting layout. Plays longer than the yardage. Only criticism was the lack of yardage markers. Good value and would play again.
Good greens. Challenging. Will play again.
The course was in good shape and a great challenge. We played the tips and was definitely a challenge with its length, uneven lies and thick rough.. The front and back 9's were two different personalities. The back required more accurate shots off the tee. Fairways were fairly plush and the greens were in good shape and very sticky, however a few greens on the back 9 were a bit hairy. I fired at flags all day and each ball hit and stopped or spun back. They were not too fast not too slow. The tee boxes were uneven from the black tees which was a bit surprising.
The driving range offered grass. The carts with no GPS. Very little golf player traffic for a Tuesday am. We teed off with no one in front or behind us finishing in 4 hours.
It took me 50 mins in traffic to get there from El Cajon. The clubhouse was minimal. No beers on draft which is something I like to enjoy after a round of golf.
Overall, I think it is one of the better challenging courses in pretty good shape. I could tell they watered this course, its definitely not dried out like most of San Diego golf courses. I will tee it up at Woods Valley Golf Club again!!!
We really appreciate the review and thank you for the comments.
We just recently put in a tap for draft beer. Let us know the next time you are coming up and I'll buy you a beer!

Hot Daze
Can't said enough about this course greens, fairways, all great. Water on cart, plenty of ICE. Water on course is cold
Course shows improved conditions from past plays
It seems like there's new owner/management making improvements. I noticed some drainage problems on a number of fairways that have soggy spots. Some water hazards were dried up, most cart paths are concrete-dirt-concrete. Bunkers are in great shape with ample sand. Greens are in good shape/maintained. Overall, good value for less than $20 twilight golfing.
Hidden Beauty
superb golf course all round ....completely contrasting 9's, both equally nice with different challenges. Superb fairways, if not just a little long although they were being cut at the time, and the greens are flat, true and medium paced. Excellent test of golf for sure, our 4 ball was a 2,3,5,5 handicap and we all shot over 80 !! Must keep the ball straight to score well and the par 3's are not overly long but challenging
Best all it was $13 on golf now hot deal
Play this course as soon as you We will all be back soon
Do not play on Wednesdays!
The course looks beautiful. Unfortunately they over watered and there are swamps throuout the course. The groundskeeping staff have sabotaged the fairways with water. Also, you may not want to play on Wednesdays. Their "men's club" has their tournament on that day and although we were the first group out at 6:30' by the 11 th hole, we were being passed by 2 foursomes for their shotgun start on the 14 th. These men are all well into their 70's, so by the time we reached 14, we still had a foursome just teeing off. Needless to say, the pace of play went from fast to snails pace. It took us 1 hour and 45 minutes to play the final 5 holes.
Thank you for your feedback and we appreciate your honest review.
Over the past couple weeks, we've had some issues with our irrigation system and our maintenance crew has been working hard to fix the problems. My apologies for the damp fairways on a few of the holes.
I have recently reached out to our Men's Club about the Pace of Play issues you've mentioned. I can assure you we will fix the problem.
Once again, thank you for your feedback and we hope to see you at Woods Valley in the near future!

Woods Valley - nice hidden gem
Course was in great shape. Reclaimed water source allows for a green course.
Greens were in great shape. Tight course layout makes the shorter distance a bit tougher. The shorter risk rewards are usually too much risk and quite simple to play to the club instead of trying to overpower it. Would definitely play this again.
Excellent Course
My friends from Switzerland came and I decided to take them to Woods Valley.. I really enjoyed playing at the course and would definitely play again as I say this for the 4th time. My only wish is for the weather to be cooler but it manageable considering the ice chests and 2 bottles of water provided per cart. The course is very nice and challenging, the staff is extremely helpful, and the range has a very nice lawn to practice from before the round. My only wish is for the course to develop a chipping area which could easily be done in front of the cart return area. I would like to send an extra thank you to the course staff and honest golfers that this course brings. I lost my cell phone on the course and before the end of my round it was found and returned to me. Overall, the course is very nice and caters to good and honest people.
Thank you
Course is in great shape!
Played here three times in the past month. The course conditions are getting better as the summer goes along. Very surprising considering the water shortages. Jumped to the top of my list for mid-week go to courses!
Thank you for the post!
The rain this week should make conditions even better.
See you again soon!
Eagle2Win
Surprised at how well conditioned the course was and especially the greens. My ONLY issue is the lack of visual yardage markers effect the pace of play. Great time!
Thank you for input. We are looking into new ways to display our yardages and we hope to have a solution soon!
overall likes
found the course very fun and liked the long holes, (where I could swing away) but enjoyed the challenge of the short holes. while I'm not a great golfer, I enjoyed the layout of the course overall.
Bad From The Get
- first one out, only to be told that I would have to share a cart - had to pay $15 on top of my prepaid greens fee in order to ride alone - I have a 6-inch titanium plate in my back and can't leave the driving to someone else, never mind that I have never experienced such a "requirement" in 52 years of playing golf - besides, I enjoy playing golf alone - additionally, I absolutely abhor the all-to-prevalent competitiveness of every golfer I've ever played with - guess what, I'm not here to play you - I'm here to play the course and enjoy the game I love - so, now I'm on the first tee and already someone is waiting right behind me - first tee, and I'm already offering someone to play through - listen, I didn't wake up at the crack of dawn only to have somebody riding up my back from the get - I don't play particularly slowly, but I do like to enjoy myself and not be rushed - the only thing worse than waiting to hit on every tee, is someone hitting balls at my heels - that's not my idea of fun - I play golf for the entirety of the experience, not simply to shoot a score and get out - when I do have the good fortune to play, I'm in no hurry to finish - if I'm out of breath, I'm playing too fast - on this day, I was out of breath from the first hole on - I began letting others play through on the 2nd hole and continued this exercise several times throughout the round - in the end, I finished 18 holes in just over 3 hours - that's ridiculous! - I purposely chose the earliest possible tee time during the middle of the week in order to enjoy a simple round of golf; something I am only able to manage, physically & financially, about once a month - I simply do not understand this rush to hurry up & finish - relax, enjoy yourself, & get off my back! - and as far as I'm concerned, this all begins/began at the clubhouse: two to a cart, can't play alone, hurry, quickly , go, go, go - pushing fast play - to be clear, I hate slow play as much as the next guy - but certainly there must be space between slow play & play fast - so my search continues; my search for a course, a day, and a tee time that encourages its patrons to relax & enjoy a day on the course ..... 18 holes ..... no rush to finish ..... nowhere else to be - nowhere else I'd rather be
- received a call from Mr. Strobel (Head Golf Pro/Woods Valley GC) - discussed my negative experience - appreciate him taking the time & making the effort
I am sorry to see your negative review about our golf course. My apologies. Please contact me as soon as possible to discuss further.

Loved it!
Pleasantly surprised! Great fairways and greens for the price...greens receptive and putted true. The front vs. back seemed like two different courses. The landscape, terrain, and oak trees add to the beauty. Smaller greens than I normally see, with challenging bunkers plentiful if off target....will play this gem again soon!!
Great course for the money
Greens and fairways are in good shape with a few bare spots, but not bad considering the watering situation. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
Nice golf course.
Nice golf course. Greens were a little slow I imagine due to lack of rain they don't cut the grass short.
Great value!
The course from tee to green is in excellent shape. It is rough around the edges but that is ok. Played a week after some heavier rains had hit so a few rough spots. But overall a great value for the price.
Thank you for taking a few moments to write a review about our golf course.
I apologize for what you thought was a slow day for the pace of play. We are always striving to make sure the rounds of golf played here at Woods Valley are within our pace of play recommendation of 4 hours and 30 minutes.
Please contact me at your earliest convenience to discuss your round of golf and having you back out to Woods Valley to see our improvements.
