New Ownership - Improvements being made
Have played this course multiple times in past 5 years. Recent change in ownership is paying off with more investment in the course, much better carts, clean-up of fairways and surrounding rough and the best greens we've seen there. Each hole is slightly different, so makes for a more interesting round of golf, some forced carry, one drop from tee box, around the bend, narrow and wide open, and finally water. Played in 3 1/4 hours, fast greens made for true roll.
Woods Valley
The course is very enjoyable., ecept #10 which is too much stairs and walking.
When I play it again I will skip #10.Now with the warm weather it has some dry spot, but that is to be expected.
New owners are trying.
We like this course but the condition has been only fair. The new owners are trying to improve the whole experience but more improvements are needed. Greens are good but fairways are sparse in spots. We will go back hoping to see improvements.
greens in good shape
greens were in good shape. course is drilling for more water to keep it in good shape.
Great Back Nine But 2 Hours 45 Minutes?
This is a really fun course. The practice area is well maintained and has real grass, not mats. The back nine is one of my favorites in San Diego. Because of the drought the fairways are bare and some of the lakes are dry, but that is just the way it is in San Diego. Played the front in less than 1:40 but for the second week in a row got stuck behind a tournament. The back nine was a torturous 2:45 ordeal with 10 minute waits on every tee box. I guess public courses need the money that tournaments provide but that was ridiculous.
Woods Valley
Greens and tee boxes very good shape despite the severe draught. Even the fairways were decent. Enjoyed this course. Boulders on each side of the fairway will mess with your errant shot. Not all that long and very fair on the fairways. Just a very nice enjoyable day. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. New Taylormades for club rental.
Great Course
Given the water shortage in SoCal the Woods Valley golf course was in very good shape. The greens were fantastic. Had a great day. I will be back to play this course again.
Good layout
Greens were excellent, the fairways need work. They are very thin and browned out in many places.Overall a very nice layout and good test.
Worth the drive..good conditions
The course was in excellent condition. Narrowness of holes provides a good challenge. Pace of play was excellent. I really like the oak trees on the second half of the course. Also loved the bird houses. We will return...
Great Place in the Valley
Great Relaxing round. Pace of play was excellent, they like all courses can use water, but greens were in great condition.
Great staff!!!
Course is very good condition and the staff is very friendly. The staff is one of the main reasons we keep coming back.
great pace of play
First time writing a review on here..... after playing this course quite a few times over the last few months, I decided to finally say what a nice track this is in my opinion! Always has been in better shape than most other courses I have played and the cost (being very reasonable) is definitely worth it. I played on a Friday early afternoon as a single.... was paired up with 2 other players.... and we finished in less than 3.5 hours! Greens were in good shape too!
very good course
cared grass all courses as like they respect golfers.
i'm very satisefied at this course.
like half of holes challenge but resonable lay out.
narrow fairways that you need straght shots most.
my handy is 15 and i made 17 at that day means
somehow good condition includes some my bad shots.
what are good good course i'll be come back soon.
Like what I'm seeing
New owners are on the right track and improving the course conditions. Fun layout with nice variation of holes. From black tees the course has numerous challenging tee shots as well as some comfortable ones. Plenty of hazards lurking for those errant shots so accuracy pays dividends in scoring on this track. Green complexes vary with some allowing run up, others with forced carry, some pretty flat and others with a fair amount of undulation. The par 3's are fantastic as they can be challenging if you want go pin seeking and have a bail out area if needed. From the correct tee box the course can be enjoyed by any level player.
Fun for the price
Overall the course was good. Fairways need some work, but are very playable. Staff is very friendly and always ready to help. A very enjoyable day with friends and just around the corner from Valley View Casino if you want a nice break.
Sorry to let this one out of the bag
Phenomenal place--beautiful serene tough course. Once accommodations and a casino are added, will be tough to beat
Worth the drive
Fun track. Target golf. Iron off the tee might just be the smartest play. Challenging par three's. Greens were good. Bare spots on a few fairways but course was decent overall. This course has character and is worth the drive.
Average course for the money and location
I have been to WV many times, and I have mostly had good experiences. However, about half the time I go out there the pace is ridiculously slow. Every time it has been slow it was just a group or two holding everyone up, and the marshalls/staff seemed to have cared less about it. If the course is fully booked, thats one thing..but when you let one slow group cause an over 5 hour round, that is unacceptable. I am unsure if I will go back and the reasoning being pace of play and that alone.
Improving condidions everywhere
I've been a somewhat regular at Woods Valley for the past year, and the improvements are adding up to a much nicer experience.Fencing that has been fixed, tee boxes that are being rebuilt/repaired,fairways that are constantly being tended to is making the course so much better than even 60 days ago. The fairways are waking up nicely. Add to this the greens have always offered a good "roll". There are mostly nice white sand bunkers throughout this course. The course has a 72.1 rating with a slope of 133,but the early holes wide enough and easy enough to let you play your way into fully "warmed up". You will need to be fully warmed up for the back 9,which is as nice as can be.Individual holes that were sculpted into the secluded landscape.North San Diego county has a lot of really nice golf courses, but the back nine at Woods Valley stands up to all of them
The staff and crew are all highly personable and try to make your round a pleasant experience every time.
The most glaring fault would be the lack of depth at the pro shop, they have a minimal selection. If you need an essential, they will have it but not a very big selection to choose from.
Same with the lunch counter, not too many selections, but the hot dogs are really good,so that makes up for it somewhat.
Last year I rotated between playing 3-4 courses in the area, but this year I'm playing at Woods Valley as sort of the "default place to play"
I'd really like to give it about 4+ stars,(reasonable green fees)but the rating system is only 1-5.
Highly recommended!
