Very nice course - excellent layout
Challenges await those who play Woods Valley. Be prepared to use every club in your bag. Shot shaping is a premium here.
Fire the Marshall
I play golf twice a week and I really like this course, it's a north county Salt Creek. I played on a monday after Christmas and it was packed. No problem, good management will handle it. By the time we got to hole 2 after a 30 min delay, there were 3 foursomes - it looked like a golf cart dealership. At the turn, after nearly 3 hours I asked management if we could replay the front because it was so slow. Yes. As I left the manger asked the employee, "who is the marshall today?" Really? You should know. Great course, fckin get it together!
A little disappointed...
I have been playing in this course for a while. I understand it is under a new management and I expected great improvement, but I am a little disappointed. Some greens need some work. I invited a couple of friends from out of the area and they were not that overwhelmed. I like to play this course because of the challenge that it poses, except for the few greens that I just mentioned that need a little care.
Nice layout
The staff (Lisa) greeted us warmly, fed us xmas chocolates and then sent us out 20 minutes early to avoid a group of student beginners that would have been playing three foursomes right in front of us, she really saved our bacon. To do that we started on #10 and we really loved the layout of the back nine along the creek and thru the oaks in a big circle. The front nine is layed out with most of the fairways paralleling each other so doesn't have the same feeling of solitude but still plenty fun and challenging. We did catch the course after a nights rain so it was overly moist. There are a lot of fairways where the grass is being replaced and or is pretty thin but they are working to improve that. All the greens had challenging contours, grass a little thin here and there. Good bunkers.
Definitely worth the $. Luv the lay out
Got my dad a new 3-wood for Xmas. Couldn't think of a better place to try it out at. Both of us Luv the lay out of the golf course. The best value in San Diego!!!
At the right price it's worth the drive.
We played right after a big rain, otherwise I'd give it four stars for condition. It's a well kept course for the money. But this time the starter let out a group of five and 3-2-2 behind that?! Pace was very slow, lots of waiting. Stick to groups of four and below. Overall though, I wish more courses at this price had fairways and greens like Woods Valley.
great layout
This was my first time playing Woods Valley. Overall was an enjoyable experience. The Layout was my favorite part. Great design and beautiful bunker sculpturing. The three holes in the middle of the oaks were really cool. Course conditions were a little crusty. If the greens had about two more feet of stimp on them, I would have rated the entire experience an Excellent.
I will definitely play here again
Good value for the money on a Saturday morning
Exactly what I wrote in review title. I would choose to play here again if wanted to play on a weekend.
fun golf
Played after 3 days of rain, cart path only. Very little standing water. Greens a little slow but very playable.
Beautiful course
What a fantastic course to play. All of the par 3's require tee shots over hazards no freebies. The layout is challenging if you don't hit the fairway. Staff is the friendliest and helpful I've seen in a while. Don't let the drive steer you away from this course. I will definitely play here again.
Great Value!
I was pleasantly surprised at the good condition of the course. The greens were very challenging and the fairways were nice. The pace of play was just right.
an interesting layout
course was in much better shape than the last time we played. also new carts= pace of play was good = greens very good = fairways have been sodded and the bad places eliminated==an interesting course to play.
Worth the drive
I say that because a lot of San Diegans don't to drive more than 30 minutes to get to a course. Woods Valley is a 30-45 min drive from where I live in Normal Heights and it's worth the drive. I hesitate to say this, but it is one of the best deals around. Solid course and very reasonable rates. The greens are always in good shape and the couse has a viariety of different holes. There is a grass range and a putting greeen. The only thing they don't have is a good food and bev. Other than that, it's a great experience.
Pleasant Surprise
Usually play East county and South bay, but decided to take a ride to Valley Center. Really glad I did! Great course, well managed, and in very good condition. A couple of greens had a few bare spots, but they had been attended to and rolled well. A few of the holes kept a first timer guessing - very interesting! Looking forward to next time.
Very Enjoyable
I only played 9 holes due to problem with medication
but look forward to a return.
A Hidden Gem
A nice golf course about 45 minutes from San Diego.
The fairways were in fair shape, the greens were smooth and rolled true even though they were very wet.
The course is very tight!! Driver is not always the best play!!
I look forward to playing this course again!!
Woods Valley
Give the greens a couple of weeks, just punched a week ago. More effort has been put in to greening up fairways. Good experience, great value
Tight course, greens under aeration
Tighter than expected, and if you're near the edges, the ball tends to roll off. Hit it down the middle, right? Had 3-some in front of me who didn't understand the single etiquette. But at least they played quickly. Front side 9 greens were being aerated, again, oh well. Many holes ended up hitting 8 iron on 2nd shot. Fairways were long grass and not cut short. It seemed many players also didn't understand the concept of "repair your ball marks on the green" and "rake the sand traps after you hit", but that's not the course's fault. Will give it another chance when the greens are better!
2 hours for a round of golf!!!!!
Hit the jack pot today! Played WV today and everything aligned perfectly. The great staff let me out a half hour ahead of my tee time, gave me a cart for myself and did not charge for my wife ( who does not play) to ride along. 2 foursomes and a couple let me play through and the course was in pretty good shape considering the drought. I finished my round in two hours and could not have had a better experience.
Rookie ayt WV golf
I'm having a great time learning how to play golf. This coarse is very fun.
