Golfer Reviews
Golfing at South Lake Golf Course
The course layout was terrific and the conditions were also great! The surrounding setting was beautiful. The restaurant employees were most helpful. My only suggestion would be to have some bathrooms along the course, however the pit toilets were acceptable. Overall, I had a terrific day!
Rough greens & tee boxes
There’s a lot of good golf within a short drive of the lake Tahoe basin. Where conditions are much better and prices are not as a abrasive. Definitely not worth $118 for greens that are basically a grassy beach. Early season starting people on the back nine is detrimental. No time to warm up for the three hardest holes just so you don’t see the despicable condition of the first three greens. Yet somehow pay a play is always slow here and for the golfer who doesn’t always hit the fairway you will lose a lot of balls.
No shoes, No shirt, full service.
Literally people there with tank tops and practicing with no shoes. We were here on vacation. Checked in and we had to pay an extra $50 for my wife to ride with, normally courses charge an additional cart fee, they called it a spectator fee even though the course wasn’t crowded and we were the only ones in our group. Greens were slow and bumpy, three temporary greens, many tee boxes had no grass. Total cost with golfnow hotdeal and fees was $120, I paid $195 at Edgewood and the difference was night and day.
Not worth $$
Terrible greens - patchy, bumpy, rough. Not one single hole with true roll. Was not like this last 3 times playing here. Also, no mention of 3 temporary greens when booking? Only informed from friendly starter...
Disappointed
This course has a beautiful environment and the natural setting is impressive. My main concern is how atrocious the greens were. There was zero consistency with each green either equal to a sand trap or half grass half sand. What made it worse is there is no warning of the conditions of the greens or cost adjustment for the playing conditions. There was also several temporary greens and again no mention of it on the booking. The round cost is higher than most courses in the area and there are several courses in far better conditions just a short drive from this course. I am sure they are working on the maintenance but a warning would have been appropriate and appreciated. Staff was friendly and local members were also helpful and informative.
The course is usually in great shape unfortunately they had four holes that were temporary greens sanded. All of the greens and pace of play for that day was horrible. Had to wait almost on every hole.

The course is in terrible shape right now. 3 temporary’ greens and there probably should have been more. I live up here and understand that the grass needs time to recover from winter. But to charge $93 for a 2pm start time on a Tuesday is ridiculous. C’mon guys. Quit over charging for a course that is half ready
Full price despite temporary greens
We normally love playing here, however this round was somewhat disappointing.
They had the audacity to charge full price with 3 holes with temporary greens as well as a lot of greens in really bad shape.
When I asked why they basically said, ”because we can”.
Even more disturbing is that they did NOT mention the temporary greens when I checked in. It was the starter on the first tee that informed us. I find this behavior extremely greedy.
Furthemore, the pace of play was almost 5 hours. Which I normally have no problem with on a Saturday.
Sorry for the rant, but I was really disappointed by this greedy behavior.
Needs improvement
Blame lousy winter weather but there were three temp greens and could or should have been several more. Plus areas around many of greens were shaggy and uneven. Tee boxes and fairways were okay. Pace of play was horrendous with two groups on almost every tee. Several fivesomes and at least one sixsome were noted ahead of us. But ranger/management had no.issues with. Play elsewhere if you can.
Wait until next year
Course was hammered by last winter. 3 greens replaced and closed when I played. Several others in terrible condition including tee boxes. No mention of these conditions on their website that I found. Beautiful scenery, but wait until next year if you value course conditions.
Greens are in bad shape.
A lot of maintenance needed. But specifically almost all of the greens are toast. Several holes utilize fairway greens. The surrounding mountains and trees and river is obviously beautiful. That’s the only thing that keeps this place alive.
Lake Tahoe Golf Course
Course is playing great, make sure you grab sand and seed mix to repair your divots. Holes 1,2 and 5 are using a modified green, as they are remodeling those 3 greens. You still have 15 more holes to putt on. Good beers to choose from and a nice food menu. Course takes 3h 45m during the week. Carts are clean, driving range open with a practice putting green and chipping bunker practice area. Lots of parking.
Almost Ready
First week open after winter. Course was in decent shape but the greens are about 3-4 weeks away from being decent (probably somewhere around a 6-7 on the stump right now and recovering from being aerated). 3 greens (1,2, and 5) are under repair likely not playable until mid June. The temporary greens are not playable unless they mow lower and roll otherwise it's just slightly shorter than the fairway. Please note that apparently children under 11 are not allowed on the course as this was told to myself as I was departing having played all 18 with my 4 month old. So call ahead to confirm.
Not worth the money right now
The course is in horrible condition right now. Some of it might be because it is recovering from the winter. But the front nine has 4 make-shift greens out of a sections of the fairway. The other greens are just not in good condition. Several tee boxes were just dirt. Several fairways were roped of due to very soggy conditions and even some that weren’t roped off we pretty soggy. All of this might be understandable if the price was severely reduced to reflect course conditions. But they weren’t, and there were no warnings prior to booking or paying that the course is in bad shape. I would definitely give it a month before considering playing here and ask about course conditions before booking.
Bad day for public golf
had a 1:10 tee time. Did not tee off until 2:10 The course had a high school tournament going on this day, and there was no mention of this when booking the date. We were an hour late of our tree time. The kids were walking the course so that delayed play time. When we did finally tee of there was 3 groups in front of us, and one of them had 5 people In there group. Every course I’ve ever played had a maximum of 4 per group. So again this delayed play time. I s[poke with Golf Now representative who spoke with the front desk and was told I would be compt a round of golf for the inconvenience. When I went in to claim this I was told they had no idea what I was talking about and that Golf Now has no say in there course. Guy was kind of a jerk about it. The course had just opened for the season so understandable that the feeens were not in prime condition seeing how we are in Tahoe and fresh off the winters season, but bargain with no mention that several holes were completely ripped up and being renovated. I was extremely frustrated and disappointed with the course and the staffs attitude toward my complaints.
Still rough
Greens are still recovering from winter. Three temporary greens as regular greens are being replaced. My first time playing here, will come later in the summer for the full experience. I loved the layout and the views are unparalleled.
