Veterans Golf Association Tournament
We played our tournament a day after there was a torrential downpour in the area. It was cart patch only, but the course had drained incredibly well nonetheless. We had a shotgun start with two flights per hole so the round took is almost 5 hours, but I blame that on the tournament. The greens are new Bermuda greens, that roll extremely well. There are some very short holes on this course, but they make up in being tight. It's definitely a course were your shot placement off the tee will lead to your success or failure. Since it's a university course they don't serve any beer, but the amenities are reasonable priced and the staff is very accommodating. The practice facility is hands down the best I have ever seen. Multiple greens at varying yardages on the range, great pitching and bunker practice area, and the best practice green I've ever been on as they have all the little gimmicks. I highly recommend playing this course and spending some extra time just polishing your game here.
True Greens!! Nice and tight layout that will challenge every golfer.
My new home course
I actually played the orange nine this time, but that choice didn't come up. I love this course. It's a fair test of golf, it's not overly long, but there are enough hazards that you must think your way around it. Conditions (for March) were great. Think I'm gonna become a member!
Good course for the hot deal price. Had a good time with the guys with whom I was paired. Can't wait for spring/summer conditions to try it again.
Nice greens!
This course is a bit on the short end, but was very challenging from the Teebox. It makes you engage in long irons, and requires much Percision and choosing your initial shot every hole. The green conditions were very nice for February. For the money you cannot find a much better deal
Great layout on White Course
My son and I were able to play the white course (9 holes) for the first time. The layout was nice but was challenging on some holes. The scenery was great and we enjoyed the course. We also played the black course (9 holes) but had played it before. Great day.
Always a great place to play
The course is always in great shape, even in the winter. Staff are often golf students from Campbell University and are very helpful.
Nice layou
Heard a lot of things about this course, so had wanted to play it for a while. Only complaint was that the rough was extreme and being Bermuda was basically a penalty stroke if you trickled in. The greens are hybred bermuda and were very nice.
Not a particularly long course and fair. Lots of trees and dog legs. Do need to play it more than once to get the hang of it
Great Facilities
First time out there, very please with the course. Good layout with altitude changes, challenging dog legs, and straight out holes to rip that driver. The greens are in great condition, were rolling true and fast yesterday. The Fairways were in great condition as well. The Rough is tall and thick...No complains for that hot deal I got from golfnow.com. Played Orange to Black.
Good value
Great value. Played alone on a Sunday afternoon. Well paced- approx. 3.5 hours o finish. Lost a few balls. Bunkers were in poor condition - hard sand.
Great golf and a Great price
Course, as usual, is in good shape. It would be great, but the bunkers oftentimes, have lots of pebbles/rocks. There was a junior tournament later that day which possibly kept down the amount of people playing. This enabled our foursome to get around in 3:20. Other times, you can have slower players out in front who can make the time last to 4-4:30.
We played Orange to Black, which is the preferred combo of the 3 nines, you will have a few challenging holes, but if you play the correct tees, nothing that you cannot handle. The greens are in great shape and very firm. So, holding the greens can be a challenge, especially when pins are tucked in tight corners. I love playing this course and you cannot beat the price, especially seniors.
Marshall was annoying
First encounter. Marshal was critical that I drove over to him on cart path at an angle instead of 90 degrees. I said nothing.
Second encounter at the very next tee box. He told us to speed up because the group in front of us were exiting the green on this par 5. I commented that 'they're a threesome.' He ignored that logic.
Third encounter. Marshal told us to let the threesome through us because we were behind by two holes.
We were squeezed between two threesomes. Of course we had to wait for the new threesome in front of us to exit the next fairway before we could hit. Then, the new group behind us teed off while we were still in the fairway. One of our guys yelled 'four' back at them....and they yelled, 'Get out of the way, then.'
It was a very uncomfortable round of golf. We played in 4 12 hours, which is pretty normal on a weekend.
Awful Management Team
Tried to give this place another opportunity but they continue to disappoint. They neglected to let anyone know that they just aerated a few days ago so the greens on the White course are absolutely in horrible condition. Huge holes, little grass, a lot of sand. Showed at the course and was informed in the pro shop for the first time of the aeration issue. They offered a discounted round the next time you come back but only good for after 12 pm play on the weekends (my tee time was 830 am. Also the discounted round ends in two weeks (8/31/16). No way the greens are back up in good condition in two weeks. Just a joke that they have a PGA Management Program at the course (Campbell Univ.) and they treat their customers like this. The group I was in were first time players at this course and they won't be returning after their experience.
Nice Course
This is a non-drinking course, so you will want to stop for a few after the rough eats you alive. Very well maintained and short. You won't be getting your woods out more than 5 swings around the whole course with the lack of distance and depth of the rough. Overall it was a fun experience, staff was very friendly and on a hot day like it was, it was nice they had a cart going around with a free water jug in the back. I won't play it again, but if you don't drink when you golf and want a challenge with your irons I'd recommend it.
Course is in great shape!
Greens in great shape, rolling very true...rough is just that ROUGH! Keep the ball in play and you can score well. Hit it offline and the bunkers or the aforementioned rough will make you pay!
Course Selection
We played Black and White courses but preferred the Black and Orange. The original Black/Orange layout is great enjoyment. The newer White layout is not much fun, hit irons or hybrids on most tee shots and all of the holes are too short. Also, if you prefer to walk, which I do, you do not want to play the White layout. For instance, the 12th green is right beside the 11th green, so you have to walk the entire length of #12 to get to the tees.
Great Course! Halfway House Grill Attendant Needs to be Re-Trained
Great course! The course was obviously wet as it was cart path only, but no biggie. The greens were punched but we knew that going in, and they rolled fine. Staff in pro shop extremely friendly as was outside staff/starter. Strange situation when we made the turn. It was 9:55am and we pulled up to the side entry to the grill. There's a lady in there but the door is locked. Now we just played the front, are making the turn and we want to buy some cold drinks and snacks. It was pushing 93 degrees with humidity. The lady wouldn't open the door, just barked, "WE OPEN AT 10!!" Nice huh? One guy in our group was ticked off enough to refuse buying anything. We wanted to spend money, at least open the door and we will wait the 5 minutes in air-conditioning while you get the place prepped. Geesh. Besides that, we had a wonderful day.
Always a very good golf outing.
Course was as expected, in very good condition, with true firm greens. A good test. Only areas to improve are the amount of sand in the many traps. You have to slice very thin or you hit hard clay. Also. The snack bar was not offering any grilled food and it was a Saturday at 2pm.
awful experience with staff
I have played here in the past on numerous occasions without issue. I live some 50 minutes away from the course and so you can see that I go out of my way to actually play there but today will be the last time due to the snafu caused by the course. I booked the last slot of an early morning tee time. when I arrived at the course I was told that the other three members of the foursome had checked in. however when I got to the first tee, the starter had no idea where they were or if they went off already even though I was ten minutes early for my tee time. the starter assured me that I would not have to play as a singleton behind numerous foursomes already on the course but then a few minutes later told me to tee off. he sent another marshall to figure out what had occurred but then I never had the courtesy of even seeing another marshall on the course to explain what had occurred. I caught up to the foursome in front of me and they explained that had booked the time I had as a foursome. I then waited and waited for the remainder of my round without the courtesy of any further word from the golf shop or marshall.
I then went into the golf shop and was told that they had a computer snafu on their part but not even a simple apology for the inconvenience of having to play on a Saturday morning behind groups of foursomes as a singleton. I will no longer spend my hard earned money on a course where they screw up the tee sheet, create an inconvenience for the customer, allow a customer to have a rather unpleasant experience waiting an eternity on every shot and then not even offer an apology or something even close to it. there are plenty of courses around where I can spend my money. not here.
Great value, well maintained course
We play Keith Hills a couple of times a year. It's a really good layout and always in good shape and a super value. The kids in the PGA program at Campbell University work in the pro shop and carts and also contribute to course maintenance. They are excellent and it's great to see young people who are looking forward to a career in the golf business. If you can, play it, you won't be sorry.
