The Chimneys Golf Course
About
The Chimneys Golf Course features 18 holes of exceptional golf. Our signature feature is the abundance of native rock found on-site, intricately hand-laid throughout the course to accent our greens, fairways, and pedestal tees. With strict attention to detail and no homes in sight, the course plays as a par 72, just shy of 6500 yards over five sets of tees to accommodate golfers of all abilities. Combined with southern, hometown charm, The Chimneys is an experience unlike any public course in north Georgia.

Bent Grass greens in terrible shape
****This review will be date sensitive, so check my posting date******
I gave the heads up at the start of the review, because I am sure they will get the greens aerated and sanded and back to playing condition. Right now, it "appears" they have removed weeds from the greens manually, and left huge pock marks throughout all the greens. Visually, they are terrible, and they putt the same. You never know what they will do when they hit all the holes on your putt.
Again, the course will get this fixed, just a matter of time.
That being said, it's a fun layout, and the fairways are perfect, folks are friendly, and although I wouldn't go back tomorrow, I will go and play Chimneys again.
Nice price
the price of $18 for 18 holes was great. The greens are badly in need of repair. Over all it is a nice course. You can get a beer and hot dog.
Fun Course
Course was in very good condition in spite of recent rains. I like the changes along creek at 5 and 9. Bent greens were bumpy and slow but that is to be expected this time of year.
Washed Out - No Notice
I showed up for my tee time 20 minutes early to find the main gate closed and padlocked. I guess the rain the night before was too much. Had to drive 30 minutes to find another course and pay more $ than I had planned
Snails Pace
The greens were slow and had weird weeds scattered around. Maybe they had a tough time through the hot Georgia summer. Somewhat of a bummer, but I didn't pay $60 so, I didn't expect pristine conditions. The killer was that it took almost 5 hours for me to play a round. Almost halfway through a guy caught up and joined me, then a few holes later another joined us. It seemed solid ahead of us with guys hacking it up. Never saw a ranger.
Great layout.....horrible greens
I went to this course because of its 4-star rating.
Pros: really cool, unique layout on the front 9 . Lots of stone and rock formations, and elaborate tee boxes. A few blind shots, but not too gimmicky.
The back nine was very differently---wide open holes, and some very very short par 4's.
The tee boxes and fairways were good.
HOWEVER, THE GREENS WERE HORRIBLE. Apparently no one who plays this course knows how to fix a ball mark on the green. These bent greens were hairy and very very slow. The most bizarre thing was that every ball mark --- and they were everywhere---had nasty clumps of crabgrass growing out of them. On a Sunday, these greens were hairy, bumpy, and weedy.
Fix the greens and this course is at best a 3 to 3.5 rating, primarily because the back nine is so short and unremarkable.
fix greens/lower rates
They are charging way too much right now for the greens to be in the condition they are in. I don't like leaving bad reviews but calling the greens "hairy" was an understatement. Not to mention no one seems to know how to fix a divot and there is crabgrass growing on the greens. Won't be back for some time if at all.
Nice course
Nice and scenic course. Very pleasant to play. Really enjoyed playing here and would definitely go back.
Nice place
Great staff, equally good fairways and course conditions.
The Good, Bad and the Ugly
Mixed emotions about my round here. The selling point for me with the Chimneys is the beautiful layout of the course. It rates very high in that area.
After that, it's downhill. The greens were very slow and had crab grass on everyone of them making putts an adventure. The rough is deep and difficult, but playable. The bunkers were poorly kept with hard sand and big grooves from recent rain and although maintenance people were out, I saw none of them working on the bunkers. I love the course layout, but won't play it again until they do some work on the greens.
Good value for the price
This course is a good challenge for the serious golfer playing from the tips. It is kept in good condition but they are battling the weather keeping the greens healthy.
Nice course
Everything good course.
But, greed is no good condition.
Greens were in very rough shape. Older man with glasses running club house (Dan or Don I think) is always rude.
Greens were in bad shape. Very slow for this course. Needed to be cut/pressed badly. Don or Dan (club house guy with glasses) is always rude. The course wasn't in the condition I have come to expect from Chimneys.
Rough staff, rougher greens
This is one of my favorite courses in the area to play for a good value. Sadly, it has a reputation amongst all my friends are being one of the unfriendliest staffed courses that we've ever played at. I've never said anything about it but I've really became tired of it. Also, the greens were in horrible condition. Crab grass was growing everywhere and there was no way to have a put without it bouncing all over the place. Otherwise, I love this place and think it has such a cool layout and such an aesthetically pleasing design. I wish they would learn to be a little more friendly.
Greens
The greens were in terrible shape. They were shaggy and the grass was thin. There was also crabgrass all in the greens. I was very disappointed. They played very poorly. I will not come back until they are fixed.
not for me i left hot and dry
The big thing to me was the was no cold water coolers on the course we did not no this yes when you make around there is a water dispenser but water was warm and it was 95 that day, I asked the manager why they did not have water coolers on the course and responding by saying it was do to insurance rates I told him it was the first time I had ever played a course that didn't have water coolers if insurance is the reason what are you going to do when someone has a heat stroke because they can't stay hydrated
Also I told him I was going to write a bad review and he reply by saying I will just take it off , I will be watching golf now to see he will be able to remove it that easy if he can then your reviews don't mean anything
consistently in great shape
Not a difficult course but very fun to play. Always seems to be in good shape.
This course is a hidden gem
The chimneys offers a unique experience. It's settled in the hills so it has many pretty views and hole layouts. Worth playing at least once. Several of the par fours are driveable if you hit it around 290 300 yards which is always fun.
Staff is not friendly
My wife does not play but loves looking at the courses I play so she rides. I have e played many great courses in the southeast and this is the 1st time I was required to pay for her to ride. If I was a single I would have a cart to myself so why make her pay? The next complaint is there is only 2 portapotty on the course. In the baking sun I didn't want to go and my wife didn't either. After we finished our round my needed to use the restroom very badly. Only problem was it was after 6 and the Mickey mouse club house was closed and nobody would open it to let her go. Lastly there are 2 water fountains on the course. The water tasted like creek water. Be warned about this place. The course is fun to play and in great shape but the staff is lacking.
Great Little Course
Fun course to play!! Has 3 drivable par 4's but only one reachable par 5. Remember to putt a little harder as the greens are receptive but slow. Food is top notch, as there is usually a friendly lady grilling hamburgers and hot dogs!! Must play if you are in the area, especially if you are looking for a $20-$30 tee time. Only cost $28 for a Sunday afternoon tee time!!
Why post a bad review of the course because of bad weather?
