Anderson Creek Golf Club
About
When Anderson Creek Golf Club first opened in 2001 it was immediately recognized as the "Best New Golf Course in North Carolina." The course was designed by 1997 PGA Championship winner Davis Love III, it was his first signature design in North Carolina. It has a traditional layout that epitomizes golf in the Carolina Sandhills. The layout features rolling emerald fairways lined with towering pines and undulating greens bordered by large roll-off areas, a tribute to the classic Donald Ross designs that are prevalent in the Sandhills. The challenging golf course has tricky doglegs and there are a variety of elevation changes throughout. Water comes into play on a few holes at Anderson Creek Golf Club, most memorably though on the par-3 fourth, which demands a carry over a large lake. Strategically placed bunkers also lurk along the greensides.

Great course but current conditions are
I love this course. The layout and the staff are great but today the conditions were a but iffy. Admittedly, it is still early April, but the tee boxes are bad and the fairways are "fair" at best. My guess is that it will be terrific again by the end of this month.
Great warmup for Pinehurst area courses
Designed by Davis Love III, Anderson Creek sits on a beautiful piece of property, meaning the course has a number of picturesque holes. It's also as difficult a course as you want to make it, depending on the tee selection. Besides the rolling topography, greens complexes are probably the most interesting part of the course with plenty of undulation and interesting pin placements.
Tight fairways, quick greens
Anderson Creek has a very tricky front 9, the greens are big. Although they were just treated the ball was rolling fairly decent. I really like the course when I can control my driver! I typically am a 3 or 4 handicap, but this course beat me down with the long par 3s and complex lay out
Meodicre Sandhills option
Course in shoddy shape, I give it a C-. Greens slow and poorly maintained. Tboxes were good, fairways ok but show years of neglect in many areas. Bunkers were fair they had been raked. The layout is great, in my mind their biggest asset. Staff was friendly and the service and food in the grill were good. I won't make the trip again until I hear conditions are improved, their are better options in the area with higher QPR.
Post Downpour Round
Played this course on a Friday after heavy morning rain, so instead of playing cart path only they let us walk. The ProShop guys are very accommodating and gave us a great rate considering the weather. Biggest downside was seeing how poorly the bunkers drain on this course. The layout is phenomenal and a true championship course with extremely challenging bent grass greens that undulate dramatically. It appears that after Davis Love III gave up management of the course the upkeep has struggled. You can see this course is in dire need of a cash infusion to renovate. I recommend getting out and playing it very soon before its no longer enjoyable. With good weather and in the summer it is a great course to play, especially if you want to test your skills as a low handicapper.
Anderson
Course was in good shape overall. Greens were fast and steady but fairways were not in the best shape. Given that it is burnish, not surprising at this time of year. Shop folks were friendly and helpful. Overall, good experience and will be back.
Was a little drive from Cary but a great course - placement of holes in greens were challenging especially the first time played
No longer a hidden gem
I played this course in a tournament and was really looking forward to it. When I got to the community entrance and seen the guard that had to let me in and the beautiful houses, I thought for sure this would have to be a well maintained course...boy was I wrong about that. The fairways were completely dead and it was just like hitting of dirt that was hard as a rock, the greens were in decent shape if you can miss all the unfepaired ball marks. Another thing that is terrible about the layout is the fact the houses are literally right off the cart path, this place is riddle with white stakes and if you aren't very accurate off the tee, you will have a miserable time here. I told myself after playing this course that I will never play it again, unless they start maintaining it better.
Not what I thought
I recently played this Davis Love designed course for a tournament and let me tell you, it was not what I expected at all. I arrived at the gated community and thought this place has got to be nice looking at all the gorgeous houses and security guard at the main entrance. Once I got on the course the fairways were dead and brown, it really felt like you hitting off of dirt as there really wasn't much grass at all. This course demands that you hit your drives straight, it is riddled with houses and the white stakes that line the course near those houses seem to be right off of the cart path. This gives you no room to miss at all. The greens were pretty decent minus the fact that no one seems to ever repair their ball marks. All in all I will say that I will not be back to play this course anytime soon, I have better playing conditions at my local municipal golf course for half the price.
UNIMPRESSED & OVERPRICED
Just not that great!! Greens were decent rest of course was just OK. After reading reviews I expected a lot better course layout. It was decent, but it felt like homes were close to fairways on most holes. Not worth the $40 rate they are currently charging.
Staff was very indifferent! Starter didn't say a word to me, had to track him down to ask for scorecard since I was walking. He still didn't say more then 2 words to me.
Won't be heading back to Anderson Creek.
Anderson Creek.....money!
What a great course for the dollar! Davis Love III did a great job designing the course. I will SURELY go back and play it when I can.
Very Long, Decent Course
I played from the back tees and i was looked at multiple times like i was a complete moron. The course is 7,200 from the back which is normal from where i am from. But the course is pretty doable. Anyway, we spoke to some members who while telling us we were crazy for playing the back, updated us on the course. They said Davis Love was no longer involved and that the course had gone way down hill in recent years. They were right. I had been told about this course for a couple months, that it was the hidden jem around here. Well it was pretty untrue. Course fairways were pretty rough, greens weren't great and bunkers were over grown and grass was all around them. Many places were hard to find the distance to the green too. If you play from the back have fun on the par 3s. I played them well but they are long. We paid $35. Thats iffy for this place. Should be $25-30 max. Plenty of nicer courses on golf now for the $35 range that i would rather play. Holes 14-18 are great and you can tell were very well designed. Could be a great course. Members out here are drinking beer and betting on holes. We luckily got stuck behind 5 Five some of drinking members coming out of the bar. All were pretty poor golfers and slow as humanly possible. We played 18 holes in 6 hours and 35 minutes. So have fun with that part of it, they also don't take care of the course at all. Divots are everywhere and the greens have divots literally covering the whole green. I probably repaired 50.
Sandhills Davis Love Design
Solid test of golf, in pretty good condition, leaves a problem - it's that time of year.
Played on a Sat @9:30 finished by 1 - temps mid 70's
good test of skills at 6400+ from white tees
Put this one on your golf bucket list.
Hidden Gem
This DL3 design is a hidden gem nestled in the woods. Great holes which plays over 7200 from the tips, with some long holes on the back. Play the right tees for your length, and you will enjoy this great golf course.
Excellent Course
Wonderful course! Always a challenge every time I play. The course is always in excellent shape and the greens run fast and true. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Highly recommended course. A+.
Disappointing
After a day with not a spectacular amount of rainfall, the course was extremely muddy and mushy. Bunkers were horrible, staff in the snack bar were rude at the turn.
Just a bad experience.
Awesome Course-Great Challenge
WOW...this course is spectacular! I highly recommend it to any golfer looking for a fun time, on a great course that's in really good shape. Make sure you play from the right tees for your game, or you will get beat up.
Course conditions were thin
There were thin and burned out areas. Conditions only average. Course complexity was good (difficult for me). Greens are large and multi-level.
Thanks for the review. Just saw it for $25 on Groupgolfer and have heard great things in the past so almost bought. Glad I came here first.
