Pinecrest Golf Club

This course has a great layout and is fun to play.

Would not walk this one. Quite a distance between many holes.

Course was in overall very good shape. The greens were bumpy and slow, buy aeration was planned for later in the week. Bermuda grass grows sideways so it causes uneven surfaces over time.

Our group gave the thumbs up, we will be back next year!

Below par experience

I was looking forward to playing this course again after a 4 year gap. Unfortunately the conditions did not measure up to my past experience and memories. The staff is very friendly though and their service was excellent. Sadly the tee boxes were in poor shape, the fairways were not in great condition and the greens were bumpy, dried out and some had been sanded within the past week. Still the layout is nice and winds though the housing development attractively. Regrettably the friendliness of the staff were not able to make up for the overall disappointing golf experience.

Has Potential to be a Great Course

This is a super long course. I do not recommend walking all 18 unless you're super fit.

Difficulty - Course has some blind water hazards and some very well placed fairway bunkers that you must carry or refrain from the driver.. If you don't drive the ball at least 275 yards with accuracy on a consistent basis, it will be like a day at the beach on a few holes. Bunkers surround a few holes. Break out the sunscreen, shovel and buckets if you come up short on the approach. Overshoot the green (easy to do since they're rock solid) and it's beach city USA.

Pros- Most fairways were in okay conditions which allowed a fair roll.

Cons- Several tee boxes and most of the greens need lots of attention. Most of the greens were hard as stone and mostly bare. It's too bad about the conditions because PineCrest has the layout and design to be a very nice and challenging course.

Pace of Play- Tee times seemed to have been scheduled about 15 minutes apart which allows most 4sums to be hitting their 3rd shot before the next group tees off. IMO, the perfect pace of play. Many of the other area courses could learn a thing of two from PC about tee times.

Overall Thought- Pinecrest reminded of a lot of upstate SC courses where most greens become scorched due to mid Summer heat and lack of water.

At this time, I would not recommend to a friend due to conditions. If PC was in upstate, SC; it would be a $25/30 in it's current condition. Since it is in a tourist area of the low country; IMO, it should be a $35/40 course in it's current condition.

Excellent value!

For the cost of play in the Hilton Head area, this is well worth the money. About 25 minutes from where we were at on the island. Staff friendly. Fairly wide fairways, large greens. Would definitely play again!

Best of the Brown courses

Best condition of the Bluffton Brown group courses which isn't saying much still municipal golf course conditions. They seem to be letting go of the Bluffton courses and putting everything into the two Hilton Head courses.

Nice course, good price

My foursome played here on a slightly overcast day. Had a real good time playing while in Hilton Head for a couple days. Greens had been fertilized and were a little bumpy but that is to be expected at this time of year.

Overall a very nice course and a good value for the money. It looked very challenging from the longer tees which I did not play.

Nice layout but not great condition

This course has potential to be a nice track. The holes themselves are nice and challenging with the many bunkers and water. However, the course is not kept up like it should be. The greens were all top dressed which meant they had a lot of sand on them and weren't cut. They were very slow and the ball bounced a lot not allowing it to roll true. Also, the tee boxes hadn't been cut in awhile and by 10 am in the morning the tee markers were still not all latex out.

It was a little frustrating to not be told about the course from any one checking in bags or in the pro shop. Also, there was no starter or cart girls on the course.

Finally, be aware this course is extremely spread out. This is not a course to walk!

Poor overall conditioning, especially the greens contributed to a less than enjoyable round. Further, the scarcity of yardage marking was frustrating for a first time visit. Price was on the low end; so I guess you get what you pay for.

Great track, just a little dry

This is a very nice course that needs some rain to make it excellent. We followed the maintenance team that was sanding all the greens. The greens still putted pretty well, given the dry conditions. Everyone that we talked to was extremely pleasant and for the $34 hot deal was an incredible value.

I will come back next time in Hilton Head.

Wake up

This is the second time for me playing this course. Each time a slow group was in front of us and refused to let us through. It took so long to play each hole that I quit and left my group after only 7 holes. On top of that a Ranger came around and saw the slow group but never told them to pick up the pace or let us through. It was one man teaching three people how to play. The course itself was said to be in good condition one several reviews, but it was terrible. Some of the worse greens I ever played on in my 21 plus years of golf. I drove an hour and a half to play to so I'll just say will not do that again. Most of the people were nice, except the so called pro in the shop. (Not the guy behind the register). People putting up the carts were great.

Great layout poor conditions

Greens were rock hard and had more seed sand than grass which made play very inconsistent. Would love the play the Pine Crest again if it were better taken care of.

Nice greens

The greens were in good condition. The layout was nice, with the exception of the lady tees. Fairly long for women. Would play it again.

Very Nice Course

I'm a new local and just learning the courses in the area. I have played this one twice and enjoyed it both times. Nice layout and the course is greening up. My only wish is that the tee boxes had been a bit more lush. Great overall deal at $35 plus GN convenience fee. We had the 9:08 tee time on a Thursday.

Pretty Layout

I enjoyed the layout of this course. Lots of water and sand. Challenging. Many very nice views on this course. The problem was , the course needed water very badly. It could be much nicer. Need to turn on the irrigation. The staff were very friendly. I would come back.
