Occano

Hands down the best course in the eastern part of the state!

I love Occano and have played it several times. However, this time around I really saw a huge difference in the greens. The damage was obviously done by players not fixing their divots, but some holes were almost un-puttable due to the conditions. I really hope some major repairs happen soon so I can enjoy the course this fall. Other than that, it’s always a great time in Merry Hill.

From the moment you get to the practice area, you know your round is going to be special. Water bottles on each par 3, luscious grass everywhere you look, and 18 picturesque holes. Sadly 4 or 5 greens were in pretty rough shape, but otherwise the course was in fantastic shape. It's a bit odd how the pro shop/bar/restaurant is a 5 minute cart ride from the first tee and practice area, but otherwise the layout is phenomenal. No two holes are alike, and while there are semi-blind tee shots, it's easy to understand where you should hit it if you use a gps aiding app. Most of the difficulty comes on the greens, and hitting from the fairways, as undulation makes you think over each shot. Will definitely play again.

Occano is a little hard to find, but worth the effort for a midweek round of golf. The course is in excellent condition, not crowded, with a variety of tee boxes for all skill levels. It is well worth the drive to a waterfront location overlooking the Chowan River near Edenton.

Hadn’t played since 2020. It had definitely rained the night before. A bit wet, but still 90 degrees! Greens rolled beautifully. Layout is incredible and the staff were super helpful and friendly! 100% recommend this course! Made the hour and a half drive and it was well worth it!!

Can not say enough good things about Ocano,. Excellent staff and maintenance crew. Both fairways and green were championship/TPC quality. Typical Palmer course; challenging yet fair for all levels of the golfer, makes the golfer think about his line, exceptional design. My only recommendation is that the management should require a 2 hour course on golfer responsibilities of divot repairs on greens, and, sand filling on fairway divots to "get his card" before being allowed on the course without adult golfer supervision. You might tell I was a little PO'd about hackers disrespecting such a beautiful course......management and maintenance crews can not do it all.

One of the best courses in North Carolina should be higher on the list for me in the top 10 in the State maybe top 5 including Pine Hurst and other courses any where in the State

10+ for condition 10+ for staff and practice / warm up areas Love this course almost 2 hours from my home and well worth the drive

Absolutely recommend to anyone. Never ran into anyone playing and course was in great shape.

This must be the biggest and vastest course i played, most of the holes are far apart, it took me and my friend 4 hours to play and it was just two of us in the course.. there were more cart drive, u wont see the club house until u finish playing and from 18th whole to the club house was far. Hahaha and from club house to the 1st tee box was far.. hahah but,, its very beautiful and very scenic.. i love it.. ill play again..

I loved playing this course. The conditions were excellent and the views of the Sound are awesome.

Palmer designed a fair course with pitfalls if you are are overly aggressive but you can shoot for the flags to receptive greens.

I drove from Raleigh to play this course. Triangle golfers it is well worth the drive.

Course is a bit in the middle of nowhere, but it’s well worth the drive. Was in great shape and staff was friendly.

Gorgeous views, nice layout.. I'm not gonna lie, too difficult for me.. But it was a nice visit..

Course overall is a hidden gem and worth the drive .
