Occano

It was cold and windy but had a great time. I actually had the back 9 a to myself. The joke came when that huge tree was in the middle of the fairway, with the green surrounded by bunkers…it was awesome. I look forward to playing when the course is green!

Four of us traveled south from Virginia Beach to play Occano in October. We are so glad we made the trip. Beautiful, fun and challenging course, great scenery , so many picturesque holes and so well maintained. It was one of the best trips we've made in several years. The staff (Bubba and dining room staff) were so helpful and friendly. I can't wait to play it again.

So much to like about this course - from the folks in the pro shop to one of the best stretch of closing holes I can think of anywhere. We had a beautiful day and there were other players out, but we had a real nice pace. Never waited, never felt rushed. Enjoyed the variety of shots required and of course, the incredible scenery offered by the Sound. Move this course closer to a metro area and you'd have to pay double. Get your round in now before this goes private. Can't wait to get back and tee it up here again.

Fantastic course conditions. Nice variety of holes makes for a fun layout. Plenty of tee options to give you options of how much you feel like challenging yourself.

Quirky start with 1st and 10th tees well away from pro shop. But you feel like you are out by yourself without home's lining each fairway. A BONUS! in my opinion.

An enjoyable challenge. Beautiful views and large fluffy bunkers.

Great course, excellent staff. The lack of food/drinks at the turn was very disappointing.

We ended up playing behind a group of 5 men who took their sweet time. We had a backup of 4 groups behind us. The lady behind us was with her husband and they drove 3 1/2 hours to get to the course and were very unhappy with the pace of ply. After a couple holes, she called the pro shop and complained about the 5dome taking so long to play. She was told by the pro shop that there was nothing he could do and it was too bad

My son and I played the rest of the round and when I went inside to the men's rest room I told the man behind the counter that this was the first 5 plus hour round this year, and I was not pleased about playing behind a group of 5 men who would not speed up, nor would they let anyone play through.

This is the first time playing this course since new management and very well may ne my last.

Totally unacceptable behavior all around.

Beautiful course, near perfect conditions, blue sky, but hot. Not warm, or toasty, but hot. 98, high humidity, and no breeze. Nothing the course had a hand in but it just sucked the juice out of you. Started at 11:20 and finished around 3:40, didn't miss a second of the worst heat.

A couple of things bothered me. None of them had to do with the course itself or the staff. They had to do with some of the folks playing the course. I was taught as a young golfer that I should always repair my ball mark and one more. Still do it to this day. Yesterday I must have repaired at least 100 ball marks. Seems like I was the only one doing it. Not that it was confined to the greens, it carried over to the fairways as well. One guy ahead of us was especially noteworthy. He must have taken hundreds of practice swings as there were many patches where 4 or 5 nice fresh scalps were found.

Enough of that. We'll be back later this fall when it is a little cooler and we can fully enjoy this magnificent venue.

Nice course overall. Breeze off the sound made a hot day a little nicer. Staff was very friendly. Pace of play was great until hole 12, then hit a jam of groups. Would’ve benefited from a marshal and starter, but hiring is an issue so it’s understandable. It’s kind of strange that the clubhouse was a few minutes cart ride from the first hole and the turn is still a minute down the road between 12/13. Overall a nice course.

Excellent, not a blade of grass out of place. From tee to green perfect, greens were fast and true
