David L. Baker Memorial Golf
About
The David L. Baker Golf Course is an affordable public course located in Fountain Valley. It has an approachable layout that is versatile enough to appeal to a range of different skill levels. No two holes are alike but all of the greens and fairways share the same excellent conditions. Water has a prominent presence on this executive golf course with lakes and ponds running alongside many of the holes. The sloped greens are lightning fast and the fairways are tightly manicured. Beside the greens lurk treacherous sand traps that are just waiting to swallow errant shots. Although there are some tricky holes, the layout is gentle enough for beginners. It is an enjoyable and affordable round that offers excellent short game practice, no matter what skill level.

No sand traps
The course was layout was good but the greens were very hard and the sand traps were like hitting off of concrete
Weather was horrible, course looked ok, construction will really be welcome, correct the raised concrete
Refreshing
It was refreshing to be able to change a tee time. And have a friendly staff and it’s not a big name or private club. Very nice and considerate people all around
Great course for the money
Really friendly staff. I play there a lot and am always treated kindly. Pace of play is pretty good. They let twosomes go out in the afternoon, and sometimes wish they would make them foursomes to keep play moving. Greens are well maintained and fairways are good.
Love This Course!
My first time here, I really enjoyed it. Good conditions, well maintained course. Will definitely be back again. Thank you!
Great value
First time back here in about 12-13 years. Fairways were in pretty good shape. Greens were a bit bumpy but they look like they were recently aerated. Had a great time, range was in good shape and definitely won’t wait so long to return. Made a Saturday mid afternoon round in 3.75 hours ( too quick for how nice the weather was)!
One Request
I enjoy playing this course. The staff is great and layout very good, especially to work on the short game. I do wish there was a way for golfers to be made aware that greens are being aerated and sand filled. Either post it on Golfpass somehow or at least reduce the cost. The greens were nearly unplayable as they were filled with sand. I don’t mean light sand. I mean enough sand your putt left a line. My foursome would not have played if we knew the conditions were going to be that bad.
Stay Away
It had been over 29 years I played this course and it had some good memories. I was going to be up in North OC and had some extra time so I decided to get out for a few hours to play 18. What a mistake. First, the range is a bit of a joke. I think they’re still using the Matt’s I hit on from 20 years ago. Second, the starter doesn’t announce who is on the tee so I had to ask him. His response: “Sure, go ahead if you want.” Interesting response considering the course was busy. Third, he paired me up with no one even though there was a twosome that was on the tee box. Fourth, the twosome knew nothing about golf etiquette and never asked me to play with them. Unfortunately, I found out later they were so bad they didn’t feel comfortable having someone join them. I didn’t make that up. Fifth, I recommend you wear a bike helmet when playing this course. The holes are right next to each other, and since the players don’t hit very straight, it wouldn’t be a surprise to get hit…more than once in one round. Sixth, I don’t think anyone that played before me that day knew how to repair a ball mark on the green. On the first hole I repaired my ball mark and five others. After doing this for the next three holes I just gave up and only repaired mine alone. Lastly, and what really put me over the top is that the pace of play was comical. I literally had to wait for two groups in front of me to hit off the tee on EVERY DANG hole. While walking from the 6th to the 7th hole I gave up and went home. The real surprising thing was that the pace of play was this slow in the early afternoon on a MONDAY. Can’t imagine what this place is like the weekend. So, in conclusion, go somewhere else.
