David L. Baker Memorial Golf
About
The David L. Baker Golf Course is an affordable public course located in Fountain Valley. It has an approachable layout that is versatile enough to appeal to a range of different skill levels. No two holes are alike but all of the greens and fairways share the same excellent conditions. Water has a prominent presence on this executive golf course with lakes and ponds running alongside many of the holes. The sloped greens are lightning fast and the fairways are tightly manicured. Beside the greens lurk treacherous sand traps that are just waiting to swallow errant shots. Although there are some tricky holes, the layout is gentle enough for beginners. It is an enjoyable and affordable round that offers excellent short game practice, no matter what skill level.

One Request
I enjoy playing this course. The staff is great and layout very good, especially to work on the short game. I do wish there was a way for golfers to be made aware that greens are being aerated and sand filled. Either post it on Golfpass somehow or at least reduce the cost. The greens were nearly unplayable as they were filled with sand. I don’t mean light sand. I mean enough sand your putt left a line. My foursome would not have played if we knew the conditions were going to be that bad.
Stay Away
It had been over 29 years I played this course and it had some good memories. I was going to be up in North OC and had some extra time so I decided to get out for a few hours to play 18. What a mistake. First, the range is a bit of a joke. I think they’re still using the Matt’s I hit on from 20 years ago. Second, the starter doesn’t announce who is on the tee so I had to ask him. His response: “Sure, go ahead if you want.” Interesting response considering the course was busy. Third, he paired me up with no one even though there was a twosome that was on the tee box. Fourth, the twosome knew nothing about golf etiquette and never asked me to play with them. Unfortunately, I found out later they were so bad they didn’t feel comfortable having someone join them. I didn’t make that up. Fifth, I recommend you wear a bike helmet when playing this course. The holes are right next to each other, and since the players don’t hit very straight, it wouldn’t be a surprise to get hit…more than once in one round. Sixth, I don’t think anyone that played before me that day knew how to repair a ball mark on the green. On the first hole I repaired my ball mark and five others. After doing this for the next three holes I just gave up and only repaired mine alone. Lastly, and what really put me over the top is that the pace of play was comical. I literally had to wait for two groups in front of me to hit off the tee on EVERY DANG hole. While walking from the 6th to the 7th hole I gave up and went home. The real surprising thing was that the pace of play was this slow in the early afternoon on a MONDAY. Can’t imagine what this place is like the weekend. So, in conclusion, go somewhere else.
DLB March 14
Course in decent shape, but this day play was very slow. A couple of areas of ground under repair, but not too many.
Uncomfortable
What I thought would be an amazing golf outting with my Son, turned into being stalked by the course Marshall. I am always aware of golf etiquette, pace of play and I hit pretty straight, there was no need for the Marshall to follow us from hole to hole. The pace was slow so there wasn't much we could do but wait at each hole, and yes he waited too. Should've complained but it probably wouldn't have made much of a difference. To add, I didn't want to make a scene, I would have been labeled the angry, intimidating, agressive black man on the golf course, no matter how soft my tone was, my curse being 6'5 240. MARSHALLS if you have something to say, (SAY IT) and keep it moving. I'm a big boy I can handle it no matter how racist it sounds.
For $20, it's worth the 18.
The overall conditions are honestly really bad.
Worse than expected, the greens keepers need to seriously step up their game. (Probably a money problem and not really the greens keepers but... as always, but someone has to take the blame!) So many boxes are literally sand with some grass coming through lol. Fairways are extremely choppy with divots everywhere/mud. The greens have fringe with chunks missing, duck poop and putt putt grade grass. This is not due to renovation, (i did see punch holes to try and resuscitate what little grass is left) but lack there of and now paying for it. Sadly, you make newport golf course look good... and they have old matts on their boxes to hit off, but still have better conditions.
With all that being said, it's an executive course that I paid $21 including cart for a round of 18. I finished in 2 1/2 hrs, due to the fact I played through 3 groups of extremely old golfers. (No age discrimination here, but man, order the cart if ya can't walk faster than 1mph or hit past 50yds) so I will say pace of play isn't too bad and you can walk on.
The staff were all kind and friendly, not a single complaint regarding your employees, just the course conditions.
DLB 2/28
Course in good condition but play was very slow this day. Pin positions were difficult probably since they had a tournament in the morning.
DLB
Play was very slow this day. They had had a tournament earlier and had some difficult pin positions, may have added to slow play.
Beginner golfers
A lot of beginner golfers that do not know golf etiquette. You need to put your head on a swivel so you don't get hit by a ball. Golfers hitting in and out your fairway as you Tee off.
David L. Baker - Great Little Course
David L. Baker is a great little course, for All Levels, especially beginners and moderate golfers. There's are good combo of short and long drives, and course is pretty flat, so it's easy to walk.
The Staff there is Always very Friendly.
Have Fun, Hit 'em Straight, and Seldom!
Tuesday at DLB
Was a cold and windy day so conditions played a part in the round! Greens were very fast and found it hard to keep approach shots on the surface! Partly due to the conditions I am sure.
First time
I’m first time playing this course and I left on the 15th hole because of the pace of play. I understand it’s a par 3 course but there was no Marshall anywhere and the people in front of me where 4 putting on a par 3 course on every hole. I think there should be a double bogey rule where you should pick up after your second put I know I do if I’m 1 over. I know I use The reviews to play golf so I hope this helps somebody if you have the time to wait all day.
