David L. Baker Memorial Golf
About
The David L. Baker Golf Course is an affordable public course located in Fountain Valley. It has an approachable layout that is versatile enough to appeal to a range of different skill levels. No two holes are alike but all of the greens and fairways share the same excellent conditions. Water has a prominent presence on this executive golf course with lakes and ponds running alongside many of the holes. The sloped greens are lightning fast and the fairways are tightly manicured. Beside the greens lurk treacherous sand traps that are just waiting to swallow errant shots. Although there are some tricky holes, the layout is gentle enough for beginners. It is an enjoyable and affordable round that offers excellent short game practice, no matter what skill level.

Slow
Not the best players here. Constantly dodging balls. Expected though for this type of course. But a 2.5 hour front 9 on a executive course and backed up 3 groups on the 10th tee box so we left .
Great pace of play
We started at 7am and we’re finished by 10am and we are not good golfers. We never had to wait on any hole. Had to walk the front nine because they weren’t allowing carts due to flooding and wet conditions. We got a Golf Now Hot Deal for $21 with cart and it felt like a great value.
Night Golf
The lighting is very poor in the tee box and on several holes I couldn’t see my ball. Too many shadows elsewhere. The children playing sports in the park had much better lighting. I recommend Baker for a day round.
Working on course
The greens are coming into shape. Especially if you're willing to fix several pitch marks. Grounds keepers were busy punching tee areas and parts of the fairways. Course has several holes off the end of cart paths and on the side of cart paths. Most are full of water. With rain in the forecast, these holes will probably get worse.
Greens are improving.
Most of the greens are in great shape and the ball is rolling on line. Unfortunately, more gofers need to repair their ball marks.
Squirrels will terrorize you
The course was very slow paced. Tee time was at 9:22 and we didn’t get out until closer to 9:40. Short course but slow. No Marshal speeding up play. But it is a public course. What can you expect. Price was okay for a 9:22 tee time. Greens were just sanded so that was another issue. The fairways were okay, dirt patches and mud in some areas. But the worse part was the squirrels. Them are savages. Will literally jump in your cart while you are in it and take your snacks. No joke, saw one steel some crackers from the group in front of us and carry them up a tree. Funny stuff.
Overall, I saw 2.5 stars.
Great course & the staff is very accommodating & friendly.
Decent
When I used to come on Sunday mornings and it was $25 it was definitely well worth it but when you can go play much better courses for $45 it doesn’t really make sense to come here so I won’t be coming back much if ever unless the course becomes nicer or they bring their prices to a more realistic spot or if I go pay thigh light pricing in the evening which is rare. It isn’t the worst course but it’s not worth $45 per person.
