Buenaventura Golf Course
About
Buenaventura Golf Course originally opened in 1932 as a nine-hole course but closed in 2004 for major renovations. The course's original designer, William Bell, was consulted for the redesign. It was transformed into a more challenging course, but the 1930s design features were carefully preserved. The parkland layout may seem short at just over 6,000 yards but like many of the courses from that era, length is not as important as strategy and course management. The strategically placed bunkers have classic shapes that blend seamlessly into the natural environment as though they were carved by the river. The bunkers combined with the fast, sloping greens make the golf course a shot-maker's paradise. One of Buenaventura's most memorable holes is the par-4 13th. It is one of Bell's original designs, an interesting risk-reward opportunity with water along the right.

Really enjoyed this Course
There are so many things I liked about this course. As a high handicapper I like the way the course allowed me to get warmed up with some shorter par 4's on the front side and the longer par 4's on the back. We were all very impressed with the fairways and greens- they were in beautiful shape!
Buenaventura... fun shorter course
Played the Blacks (5826/68.3/117) in 4.5H, matched up with Tim, Joey & Emma. We teed off @ 345p on Friday afternoon and finished when it was almost too dark to play. I got a course text special of $19 to ride after 2pm weekdays. The weather was clear, in the 70's and breezy.
I have been playing this course several times a year going back well over a decade, and this may be the best course conditions I have ever experienced here.
The tees were in very good shape overall and almost all the divot damage was already properly maintained.
The fairways were excellent, lush which produced nice lies.
The kikuyu rough is mowed down, which is great for POP, few lost ball areas. However, it is just long enough to grab your club on both full shots or chips. Lusher closer to the fairways/greens, thinner the farther you are from the fairway.
The traps have thick sand and were decently maintained.
The greens putted medium speed, were usually firm and occasionally bumpy. They held approach shots very well.
Courteous and efficient check-in, the customer service was excellent as usual. No GPS on the basic carts but the sprinklers are well marked. Nice snack stand with good burgers and the drinks are good AD. Fun, shorter course that is tougher than the scorecard initially indicates because of trees, tightness and the usual ocean 1-2 club breeze. Easy course to walk, shorter, few hills, no long walks between tee boxes. No range, they only have a couple of cages to warm up in. Nice conditions, and for less than $20 with a cart, hard to beat. Definitely recommended.
I'll definitely be back!
First time playing this course. It was in great condition. Fairways were well maintained. Greens were a little slow. Difficult to read but I loved the challenge. The pace of play was a little slower than I liked but it wasn't the courses fault. It's a short course but challenging. It's one of the best courses in the tri county area.
Tricky greens
Course requires precision off the tee....well bunkered with some incredibly tricky and challenging pin position. Though not overly long this course will severely test your sort game.
Buenaventura
Played the Blacks (5826/68.3/117) in slightly less than 3H as a single. never waiting a shot the entire round on a Teeoff.com special for $17.49. Partly cloudy, around 70 and little breeze today. Easy course to walk, shorter, few hills, no long walks between tee boxes.
The tees were in very good shape overall. Several had been recently resodded and almost all the divot damage was already properly maintained. Also, it looks like they are making a new tee for hole #15 that will be parallel with #14 green and stretch it out a little bit.
The fairways were good overall, lush, nice lies.
The kikuyu rough is not long but is long enough to grab your club on both full shots or chips. Lusher closer to the fairways/greens, thinner the more off the fairway you are.
The traps have thick sand and were decently maintained.
The greens putted okay, occasionally bumpy & medium speed. They held approach shots very well. While the greens today were slightly above average, they were not as good as they usually are here.
Fun, shorter course that is tougher than the scorecard would indicate because of trees, tightness and usually, the wind here. Courteous and efficient check-in, the customer service was excellent as usual with Margaret in the Pro Shop. No range, they only have a couple of cages to warm up in. No GPS on the basic carts but the sprinklers are well marked. Nice snack stand with good burgers and the drinks are good AD. Nice conditions, and for less than $18 with a cart, hard to beat. Definitely recommended.
Fun course
Played 18 in just over 3 1/2 hours however we were not told the greens were recently air rated and we're still a bit sandy. Other wise nice course for the money,
Local public course
Not a course I'd recommend to a visitor but worth the play if you can get a good price. Otherwise Olivas Links is the better choice for Ventura golf.
Short track so play frome the black tees. Lots of short wedges into the greens.
You can't beat the weather!
The course is great. The pace of play was extremely slow. I would recommend a starter at the first hole. And, a marshal would be nice to assist with the pace of play. The pro shop needs more ladies golf clothes. An ice machine near the 10th hole would help with ice for water bottles......just a thought. Overall, the it is a good course. And because we got a HOT DEAL on GolfNow, the rate was good. I don't think I would pay 55 to play here. I love GolfNow!
Very playable and fun to play
Enjoyed playing at Buena; have played it many times and enjoy it everytime. Too bad that it started raining before we finished the round, but still had a good time.
Buenaventura, a hidden gem...
Played the Blacks (5826/68.3/117) in 3h, 30m on a sunny, breezy Monday afternoon in the low 70's for $20 including a cart. I walked the front to get some exercise and rode the back. Played with Brian, one of the assistant pro's, nice guy/good player. We rarely waited and played at a relaxed pace.
The greens putted poorly, medium slow and very bumpy. They have definitely NOT recovered after aeration. The back nine greens were smoother and quicker than the front nine greens were.
The fairways were decent, about half lush and half thin. Much better than the last time I played here.
The rough was mowed down kikuyu with generally good coverage.
The sand traps were excellent, nice, fine sand.
The tee boxes were also much improved from the last time I played here. There were many recently repaired divots.
Fun little course, not long but tight in places with many mature trees that really come into play on anything crooked. The layout has five par 3's & three par 5's. Good mixture of short, medium and longer playing par 4's. The customer service was excellent, the pro shop got us right out ahead of my tee time. No beverage cart, but they have an excellent snack shop with many options @ reasonable prices that I have enjoyed on many numerous trips here.
Buenaventura
Played the Blacks (5826/68.3/117) in 4H, 40M with GDR23 & RGM2525 on a Teeoff.com special for $17.99. Partly cloudy, around 90 and humid, little breeze today. The course was very crowded mid day, we waited on almost every shot the entire round.
Easy course to walk, shorter, few hills, no long walks between tee boxes.
The tees were in good shape overall. Several had been recently resodded and almost all the divot damage was already properly maintained.
The fairways were very good overall, lush, nice lies. Gary & I are in agreement that they are as good as either of us have ever seen them here.
The kikuyu rough is not long but is long enough to grab your club on both full shots or chips. Lusher closer to the fairways/greens, thinner the more off the fairway you are.

Nice snack stand with good burgers and the drinks are good AD, so we had one before we teed off, at the turn and after the round on a very hot day. Nice conditions, and for $18 with a cart, hard to beat. Definitely recommended.
Course is in great shape.
Played on a Friday morning; not too crowded, but we did have to wait behind a 4some who should not have been playing from the tips; we did finish in about 4 hours, but I prefer playing faster.
The course was in great condition from tee to green, and on the green.
Good solid golf course
This course is on the short side, but offers plenty of challenges for every level of golfer. Went on a Sunday and the pace of play was very slow. Because the course is short it may bring out the short hitters which may contribute to the slow pace. All in all, The course is always in good condition and I have a very good time.
great
course in great shape, a little busy for Monday- 5hrs
Feels like you're at the park
Excellent care and upkeep all the way thru...kind of a short course but if you're like me and just starting to walk the courses it's perfect to start to get used to walking.
Love this course
Great place to play golf, the course very green and the greens are rolling true
Fun Course
Should have played better.
Kikua grass made chipping difficult
Great course during the summer
I come here during the summer to get away from the heat. The only downside to the course, no golf range for hitting balls. Aside from that, the pace of play is good most days. Greens are kept up, course plays long.
The course was in great shape.
The course was in good condition from tee to green. It is a challenging course but not overly difficult for the average player. Some par 4's are short enough that a driver may not be needed to get into good position for a shot at the green. The only disappointment was the lack of a driving range.
