Buenaventura Golf Course
About
Buenaventura Golf Course originally opened in 1932 as a nine-hole course but closed in 2004 for major renovations. The course's original designer, William Bell, was consulted for the redesign. It was transformed into a more challenging course, but the 1930s design features were carefully preserved. The parkland layout may seem short at just over 6,000 yards but like many of the courses from that era, length is not as important as strategy and course management. The strategically placed bunkers have classic shapes that blend seamlessly into the natural environment as though they were carved by the river. The bunkers combined with the fast, sloping greens make the golf course a shot-maker's paradise. One of Buenaventura's most memorable holes is the par-4 13th. It is one of Bell's original designs, an interesting risk-reward opportunity with water along the right.

Staff friendliness
I was not given friendly help at all. I was told to tee up at hole #1 at 10:41. I went to get my clubs and the group I was supposed to play with took off. I went to the club house and they told me tto catch up with the 2 some. Another player also missed out with the 10:50 time. We both had tu o catch up with the 2 some. We started out on hole number 3. The twosome was on there second shot on hole #2..
Also it was very slow the two some decided to quit because I'd pace of play. I had to.play by myself so I decided to leave too. I was treated un fairly. I thought I should get a rain check. Cause I never would have finished my 18 holes.
Slowest Round Ever
I've been here a few times and always enjoy my round. However this last visit was not so favorable. The greens were great per usual, but the fairways were dry as a bone. Tee'd off at 12:50 and was not able to finish with sundown being about 5:40. from the second hole on, we waited for the group in front to tee off, by the time we got to the first par 3, there were 3 groups piled up. This happened at every par 3 on the course. it took 2hr and 50mins mins to get through the front 9. It was brutal. its going to be tough to bring myself back with a round this slow. get a marshal out there. this was the slowest round I've ever played. no exaggeration
Condition
The course needs work around the greens, too much dead and under repair conditions. On the flip side, the greens themselves were very well maintained.
Great Course
Always fun to squeeze a quick 18 at this course. Greens are pure, well kept course.
Buenaventura review
I have played this course for the first time in about 10 years. It is better than I remember. Greens were in good condition, had interesting undulations and rolled nicely. The fairways are in good shape, but in some areas, there are patches that need to be manicured. Due to Covid; patrons are not raking traps, so maybe management needs to start notifying players to fix ball marks and rake traps. I played as a single and was paired with a group of really good people.
Birthday and a good day! Shot 71.
Will play again!
Good Value
Play here often. Staff friendly, course in above average shape, new sand (nice) tee boxes could use some grading work (don't be scared to level them off and reseed every other month) in a year you could have 18 nice looking tee boxes.
If you're looking for a good value in Ventura County this is a good place. short course but plenty of challenge with the approach shot... greens in great shape and roll quicker than they look.
# 10 long par 5 always plays tough with the wind!
JF
Over 2 1/2 hours to play the front 9. No one on course monitoring pace of play. I paid for 18 but left after 9 due to pace
5-some Bad, 6-some Worse!
Course is nice, value good...but I cannot for the life of me understand how the marshall could allow a 6-some!!!
A 5-some is bad enough and should never be allowed but a 6-some is completely ridiculous!
The marshall just drove right by it and when he got to us and I tried to complain, he just made a joke and drove on!
Turned a 3-3.5 hour course into a 5 Hour Executive course on a Saturday! *which is plenty busy enough!)
I have been to this course many times and love it but just when I booked it for our out-of-town visitors (from AZ), we had to contend with a SLOW 6-some.
Completely unacceptable!!!!!!!!!!
Fun track
First off, the staff was one of the nicest I have had the pleasure of dealing with. From the shop to the grill. Really nice and accommodating employees at this establishment. The course was in good shape but the greens are in fantastic shape and are rolling fast and true. I played with my almost 8 year playing kid he played from the green tees and had a great time.
If you are looking to warm up and hit balls go down the street to Olivas and then drive back over. That’s the only downside to this course. Otherwise, we will be back in the near future.
Another beautiful day in paradise!
Mid-week round @ Buena is good for your soul! Staff is awesome; you can always find someone to pair up with!
