Olivas Links Golf Course
About
Situated along the Ventura Harbor overlooking the Santa Clara River, Olivas Links (formerly known as Olivas Park Golf Course) enjoys coastal breezes that make it cool in the summer and warm in the winter, providing perfect conditions for golf year-round. The golf course has a links-style layout that closely follows the natural swales and curves of the landscape and separated by bands of fescue and wild grasses. The course is mostly open but there are some large pine trees scattered throughout. Its seaside location subjects the golf course to strong winds, especially on the front nine. The challenging layout offers multi-tiered greens and contoured mounding along the fairways. There are also deep bunkers strategically placed throughout Olivas Links, but the openness of the course places a stronger emphasis on hitting the right spot on the fairway or getting the correct angle of approach to the green rather than avoiding the bunkers.

Bad Pace of Play
First time at this course after hearing a lot of recommendations. Conditions were pretty good but the greens were excellent. Good speed and ran true. Course has a fun layout and isn’t too gimmicky. I would love to play this course more often although probably won’t unless I am first out on the day because the pace of play was awful. 5 and a half hour round teeing off shortly after noon and barely finished at sunset. Never had more than 1 group on a tee box but we waited 10 minutes at every tee and on every shot. Golf really isn’t fun when people are inconsiderate and take as long as they want to play. You don’t need to rush but it’s not difficult to play at a reasonable pace.
Another beautiful day in socal
Just another beautiful morning. Met a couple guys and had a great morning. Course was in great shape.
Best Public Course in Ventura County for the Money
This course is hard to beat in terms of course conditions but when you factor in price it's the best in Ventura County. Pace of play is dependent on the day, I've got through the course in 2.5 hours but a quick pace is usually 3.5hrs, normal is around the 4hr mark but sometimes it gets backed up and can take longer. Nice driving range, 2 chipping areas, one flat, one with holes and a bunker to practice out of. Large putting green. Snack bar is lacking, the hot chocolate is good though! Beverage/snack cart is rarely on the course.
Course is well maintained, not a country club nice but I've seen it close to CC conditions in 2018.. Fairways have nice grass, there is a second cut, and then some serious rough outside of that. Greens are always super nice, and pin placements change. Playing on days there have been tournaments can be challenging due to pin placements, they don't mess around sometimes. Par 3's are challenging but fair, par 5's are the same. Last par 5 is reachable in 2 with a couple good swings, nice way to end a round!
If you haven't played the course you're missing out. Just make sure to not hold up pace of play :D
course in great condition
first time golfing this course nice smooth a little narrow for me lost quite a few shots as im still trying to refine my game was shooting in the 120 now in the 95-105 range once i get swing and grip figured out .... oh no!!!
had a great time shot a 99 the other guys in my group liked it too looking forward to golfing there again
Excellent Course Conditions on Challenging Layout.
Beautiful links-like layout near ocean in Ventura / Oxnard. Wind is typically a factor. Greens are typically fast and challenging. Premium on accuracy off tees and into greens. Clubhouse and bathrooms are (very nice) trailers with beer and shop amenities but this track is all about the amazing course and layout. Bring an extra ball or four...
Favorite VC course!
Played last Sunday; after 3 days of rain. Course in terrific condition. Tee boxes level and perfect. Fairways are a pleasure to hit from; no guessing how the flight of your ball will be! Greens very receptive to a high incoming approach shot. Pace of play was under 4 hours. Friendly staff as usual. I would play here 7 days a week if i could! Awesome views of the snow capped mountains to the North!
Challenging when wind blows
I like Olives Links. It’s an course that makes you play all your clubs. From the tips, it’s definitely challenging but scoring opportunities are abundant. Greens are solid but could be faster. A little too soft and balls never roll out. Pace is good in the morning. Forget it after 8am, you’ll be out there all day. Nice practice facilities but no real clubhouse or drink cart.
Back 9 & Breakfast!
Snagged the "Back 9 & Breakfast" deal - the perfect way to get your golf fix, socialize with friends, and get home for the rest of your day with family (or football!). And for $27, it's a major score.
Teed off at 8:04 & finished in 2 hours, and didn't feel anyone in front of us or behind, which is a huge part of the experience. The course is in super shape, and being able to soak in sunrise over the driving range from 10 tee is my version of Church.
Post-round, your tasty breakfast burrito is just a short hop down the road at Buenaventura GC. Yes, that's a little weird, but totally forgotten as you unwind with 2 tv's playing the morning NFL games with a face full of pretty great grub..
Look, I loved every bit of it, and so will you. But, do me a favor - please don't ruin this little slice of heaven by booking all the tee times.
Lovely Parkland Golf Course
Buenaventura is a fun course. It isn’t long, and the front and back nine are very different. On the day I played, the staff were able to get me out earlier than my reserved time. I had the pleasure of playing with two retired gentlemen. Some might consider the course very easy. The front 9 doesn’t have a par 4 longer than 400 yards from the tips. However, there are many strategically placed bunkers. Only one hole has a water hazard, the picturesque #5. There is only one par 5 on the front. It isn’t long, but asks the player to hit a high fade around trees to be able to hit it in two. There is a drivable par 4 (#6) followed by a longish par 3 (around 200 yards). The back nine pretty much is defined by the outer boundaries of the course. While OB is not a factor on the front, it is on the left side of 6 of the 9 holes on the back. There are two par 5s on the back. Number 10 is probably not reachable except for the longest of hitters. The par 4s on the back are all longer than the front. Numbers 13 and 16 are quite challenging as water guards the front of the green on 13 and lurks to the right of the green on 16. I reckon the back nine probably plays 2-3 strokes harder than the front. It is a lovely parkland style course that puts more of a premium on accuracy than length.
Great Value, Great Course
My experience at Olivas links was great. The course was in perfect condition, fairways were lush as were the aprons and greens. The traps were strategic and well groomed and the course was challenging but not severely so. I would highly recommend this course to anyone.
They just punched the greens but knew it going in.
Fantastic Round today! Wind was light ( played early) which made things a little easier I think. Starter was extremely helpful and friendly. Course was in great shape outside of the aeration on the greens but I knew that going in so no complaints.
This course is immaculate
I started at 3:45. Played as a single. Paired with another. Played 18 holes by 7 o clock. Course was absolutely perfect. Greens held nicely. Golf ball stayed true to its line. Fairways were groomed so well I thought I was hitting off carpet. Stay in the fairway and go right at the pins. Excellent day. Bring your A game for this truly masterful layout.
