Laurel Hill Golf Club
About
Laurel Hill Golf Club has some of the best conditions of any public course in the area, which is why it is popular amongst the locals. It is hard to believe that the club sits where the DC Department of Corrections facility at Lorton used to be located. The layout has a traditional design, but unlike older golf courses it runs a lengthy 7,102 yards from the back tees. The greens are lightning fast and undulating. There is defined contouring throughout the course, which allows for some interesting holes. Although the fairways are wide open they are still punishing towards errant shots. There are dramatic elevation changes throughout the golf course, making a flat lie nearly impossible to find. The course provides a formidable test for even the most seasoned players.

1st Timer
I thought it was a interesting course. Would recommend as nice course to play. Only course I played this year that had a cart person, yes she was wearing a mask. I am glad she was out there, I drank all the liquids that I had brought.
Fun, challenging layout
While I spent a lot more than I typically would for this round of golf, it was a fun splurge. Had a very enjoyable round. Apologize to the group behind as our group was a bit slow (but not too slow; still finished in under 4 hours despite hacking it around some). Definitely a challenge playing the first time; helpful to play with someone with local knowledge. Still struggled committing to some blind shots. Fair amount of elevation changes and good mix of challenging holes. Probably would not splurge like this again in the near future (Michigan golf much cheaper), but had a good time.
Challenge and reward
This course sits just 2 miles off of Route 95 and wraps around old prison grounds of Lorton correctional facility Despite being close to the city you feel like you’re out in the country with rare views of houses or development along the course. Historical signs that the Teebox is giving you a sense of the history of this area
The course has five tea boxes and it’s most important to choose the right Teebox for your game or you’ll have a frustrating around. Elevation changes dog legs left and right and pristine interesting greens are the characteristics of this course. course was in excellent condition
As many as five bunkers protect some of the greens and line the fairways turning an errant shot into a sandy par chance. Other errant shots will find their way into the woods or fescue but most fairways are generous ...however approach shots tend to be with elevation either up or down and you won’t find flat lies very often as you approach the greens
This course is a little pricey for a municipal course particular on the weekends however price value is excellent. Staff was friendly and professional ....pace of play was excellent and this is a must play if you’re a golfer in Northern Virginia
Great track!
The course was in great condition and the layout was fantastic. Practice areas were very nice. Would highly recommend!
Great course but customer service could improve
Great course but definitely not a great place to relax afterwards with the staff acting like they don’t want you there
Excellent course
I played with a member which was extremely helpful. It's a tough layout,, make sure to pay attention to the rating/slope and use the right tee box. Excellent condition and maintained, , very challenging, highly recommended.
Great track
Awesome elevation changes, fast smooth greens visually it’s very deceptive from a lot of the tee boxes, you have more room then you can see most of the time.Would definitely play again
I had a great time.
First time playing the course — I had a great time!
Immediately met by kind people at check in and at the starter station. Very efficient and clear with procedures. I appreciated the free warm up range balls.
As mentioned by other reviewers the course was long on some holes (combo of distance and elevation) — I played white tees. I normally drive 250yds and was glad to make par on some through short pitch/chip and putt. However the fairways were comfortably wide, with traps to punish only the most pushed or pulled shots.
Beautiful holes and maintenance.
Greens were great! And much faster and contoured than I was used to on weaker muni courses. However practice green by clubhouse was fair representation. I recommend a few minutes earlier to take advantage.
Pace of play was perfect! My group (I was single matched with others) didn’t need to wait more that a minute ore two on one or two holes for those ahead of us to clear. This could have been because of individual carts due to protective Covid measures or timing distribution. Whatever it was, it worked very well.
Very fun!
Thank you!
Best in the area that I've played, hands down!
First of all, I rarely play through the week but I had A-day off so I decided to go and played this gem. Didn't check out the clubhouse much at all with the current situation but everything else was just great. The practice green was super smooth and fast. I was hoping the course greens were the same way and they were. PRISTINE CONDITIONS! The fairways were excellent also. Great pace of play and all. This will not be my last time.
too long, ridiculous rough in/around bunkers on #5
Some holes from the white tees were ridiculously long. 440yds par 4. 566 par 5.
Most irritating was hole #5. They have bunkers on the left side near and around the green. there were probably 6 or more fairway/greenside bunkers there. That's ok. What's NOT OK was the RIDICULOUS junk/weeds/high grass framing the bunkers. Seriously....the bunkers are already a hazaard but NOT MOWING OR MAINTAINING the WEEDS between the bunkers? cmon, its already a hazard but placing a hazard within a hazard is STUPID,
they had the same situation at Bristow Manor a few years ago and i wrote the same complaint to the GM there and a few months later, they removed the hazard within the hazard.
Laurel Hill Golf Cours
Love the course layout! Great condition. Sand in the traps was the best I’ve seen this year. Only negative comment would be the geese droppings all over the 16th green. First time I’ve played here. Definitely would like to return.
Great condition from tee to green. Place of play was excellent. Played 9am on a Wednesday.
Great Round of Golf
The course was a little crowded, but people kept their distance and the staff were helpful in moving people along. The greens were in good condition and the course in general was very nice.
Nice Course and Members are Friendly
When ariving the people who work there are very courteous and welcoming. Since we only had two people, we were paired up with another member who was very nice. I do not pretend to be good or decent at golf. The course was nice and wide (for all the times I topped the ball and slice it). The course is very well maintained and overall was an enjoyable time.
