The Club At Viniterra
About
Situated between Richmond and Williamsburg, the Club at Viniterra sprawls across abundantly wooded hills. There is no shortage of elevation changes on this Rees Jones and Greg Muirhead-designed golf course. There is a difference of as much as 70 feet from the tee to the green on most of the holes. When combined with the mature trees, the result is a tough layout that demands accuracy. Thankfully though, there are not many water hazards to contend with but there is strategically placed bunkering throughout. The golf course also provides a scenic round with working vineyards running alongside the lush fairways. In addition to being challenging, the Club at Viniterra prides itself on their environmentally sensitive practices. The golf course saves as much as 80 percent of the water used on traditional courses thanks to the use of a drought-resistant grass hybrid.

Open Fairways, Rolling Hills, and Aerated Greens
Tee boxes were in great shape on every hole, and level (not a given on every course), giving a consistent tee height which was nice. Fairways opened up nicely after a couple of 200 plus yard carries and narrow openings. The undulation of the fairways make a bowl on many holes that can course correct slightly errant tee shots or approaches. Lots of bunkers that are well tended and penalize overly aggressive play encouraging play to the heart of the green as the best bet. The greens...they look great from afar but have recently been aerated which made for very unreliable roll on putts and release on chips. Highly recommended to mark you ball and clean it before attempting any putt to remove the gritty sand for a fighting chance at jarring one. That was the only blight on an otherwise stellar experience. Will play there again soon, tremendous value for the money.
Very very slower players.
They need a marshal to control to players.
Some players run funny music very loudly.
Some of them played too close to front player.
Club at Viniterra
Great layout in the rolling hills without many homes along the fairways. Only really one par five that needs redesigned but all in all a fun and very playable course. The greens were recently air rated so wasn’t much fun putting.
very nice course
vinaterra is a very nice course. it's not the most difficult course i've played - but it's not easy at all. it will test your skill level.
it's a lot of up and down and playing across open hazards. one could lose a lot of balls if you can't play straight from a to b.
the greens are very nice. they had been recently aerated so they were choppy today ( 11/10/19 ) - but normally - the greens are very very nice. normally they are very fast and break hard.
they have a very nice club house, driving range , chipping green - with bunker - and separate putting green.
nice place.
i'll be back.
nice
It is hard to say anything negative about this course except that I don't like the layout! The conditions were perfect today but again, it is hard to recommend a course that you just don't like that much.
Great course , friendly staff
First time playing this course. Conditions were excellent! The pro was super helpful and made us feel at home. He took the time to show us where everything was even with a shop full of people. After our round the other staff member was friendly as well as he helped us with merchandise. Great value for the price. We will be back.
NO GOLF, LOST $120 & HAD TO DEAL WITH THE RUDEST PERSON I'VE EVER MET.
I purchased tee times for two through the club's website. Little did I know that the weather would be horrible on the day we were to play the course. So bad that the fairways and greens were flooded. Bad enough that the final round of the PGA Champions Tour event down the road was postponed to Monday. When we arrived at the course we were told under no circumstance would we get a rain check. Jeff (the general manager) was incredibly rude. His claim that I purchased the round from "Golf Now" was news to me since I purchased it through Viniterra's website. End result...NO GOLF, LOST $120 & HAD TO DEAL WITH THE RUDEST PERSON I'VE EVER MET.
Nice course to play
The Club at Viniterra was in great shape. The weather was perfect and had a great time. The pace of play was slow due to a twosome a few groups ahead. The course is loaded with bunkers which slows play too, but still had a great time and look forward to returning.
Thanks for your review. Sorry your pace wasn't as quick as usual. Hopefully next time you can fly around. See you soon.
Good twilight rate
Course is about 20 minutes from Richmond airport, got in one afternoon and decided to try and get in 18. Paid $38 for a twilight rate, and have no complaints. Played this course about 6 years ago when they first opened so didn't remember much. Thought the course was in great shape for this time of year, greens were soft and rolled true. No two holes border each other, so you need to keep it in the short grass. If I lived in the area, I would play here again. Late PM I didn't expect a beverage cart, but was able to buy drinks snacks from the bar before starting.
Thanks for your review. Hope you make it back soon. Remember to check out our off season rates starting Nov 4th.
Best Value
Course was in awesome shape & as most know the golfer sets his/her challenge with tee variety & length. This course is a very good & fair challenge for average to very good golfers. It was also a grand value.
Ridiculous!!!
This today was the longest it has taken me to play a round of golf in over 3 years! 5 hours and 20 minutes is ridiculous!! It wasn't even fun, because of the wait with no one to help. We never saw a marshall!
Thank you for your review. I do apologize about the pace. We had one group that held the course up and that is where my marshal spent his time trying to get them to pick up pace. By the time they finally fell back into position the damage was done. Again, we are usually better with pace on weekends. Again, thank you for your review.
Challenging but Fun and Fair
Very generous fairways.....this course is all about the shot to the green. Lots of sand (which nobody seemed to know how to rake!) and some varied greens....some very undulating, some breaks very subtle. Course was in good condition considering the lack of rain in the area.
I consider this a must play if you are in the Richmond/Williamsburg area.....along with Royal New Kent.
Great Course to Play
Played in a foursome where we play around the area. The course was in great shape which considering the drought in the area, was quite remarkable.
The staff was friendly and the clubhouse was a big improvement from what they had in the past.
Would highly recommend this course.
As it was explained to you the day before on the phone and when you arrived that this was a "hot Deal" offered through GolfNow. The policy of the "hot deal" is that they are not refundable nor can we issue a raincheck. I explained that if you were to call GolfNow they might refund you because they do sometimes refund on certain circumstances. Apparently, you took my advise and called them because you were issued a refund. Again, Thank you for your post.
