The Club At Viniterra
About
Situated between Richmond and Williamsburg, the Club at Viniterra sprawls across abundantly wooded hills. There is no shortage of elevation changes on this Rees Jones and Greg Muirhead-designed golf course. There is a difference of as much as 70 feet from the tee to the green on most of the holes. When combined with the mature trees, the result is a tough layout that demands accuracy. Thankfully though, there are not many water hazards to contend with but there is strategically placed bunkering throughout. The golf course also provides a scenic round with working vineyards running alongside the lush fairways. In addition to being challenging, the Club at Viniterra prides itself on their environmentally sensitive practices. The golf course saves as much as 80 percent of the water used on traditional courses thanks to the use of a drought-resistant grass hybrid.

Good twilight rate
Course is about 20 minutes from Richmond airport, got in one afternoon and decided to try and get in 18. Paid $38 for a twilight rate, and have no complaints. Played this course about 6 years ago when they first opened so didn't remember much. Thought the course was in great shape for this time of year, greens were soft and rolled true. No two holes border each other, so you need to keep it in the short grass. If I lived in the area, I would play here again. Late PM I didn't expect a beverage cart, but was able to buy drinks snacks from the bar before starting.
Best Value
Course was in awesome shape & as most know the golfer sets his/her challenge with tee variety & length. This course is a very good & fair challenge for average to very good golfers. It was also a grand value.
Ridiculous!!!
This today was the longest it has taken me to play a round of golf in over 3 years! 5 hours and 20 minutes is ridiculous!! It wasn't even fun, because of the wait with no one to help. We never saw a marshall!
Thank you for your review. I do apologize about the pace. We had one group that held the course up and that is where my marshal spent his time trying to get them to pick up pace. By the time they finally fell back into position the damage was done. Again, we are usually better with pace on weekends. Again, thank you for your review.
Challenging but Fun and Fair
Very generous fairways.....this course is all about the shot to the green. Lots of sand (which nobody seemed to know how to rake!) and some varied greens....some very undulating, some breaks very subtle. Course was in good condition considering the lack of rain in the area.
I consider this a must play if you are in the Richmond/Williamsburg area.....along with Royal New Kent.
Great Course to Play
Played in a foursome where we play around the area. The course was in great shape which considering the drought in the area, was quite remarkable.
The staff was friendly and the clubhouse was a big improvement from what they had in the past.
Would highly recommend this course.
Great layout
I’ve played other Rees Jones courses - Duke University and The Golden Horseshoe (gold). Another superb layout. Numerous bunkers that snatch your errant shots, greens that were slow, but in great shape with plenty of undulations. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Pace of play was above average. Thumbs up!!!
Nice course
Great layout, the greens had been aerated so they were a little bumpy but not too bad. I enjoy the course.
Thank you for the nice comments. Just an FYI, we did not perform a core aeration. What was performed was needle tines that simply vent the greens. Needle tines usually do not effect the roll of the ball if done correctly.
Again, Thank you for playing and your review. See you soon.
Nice course. Marshal was rude.
Beautiful Sunday round interrupted by a Marshall in the 13th fairway. He said we were two holes behind and we had to speed up our play.. There wasn’t anyone behind us. I said that we weren’t slowing anyone down and we were on pace to play. a four hour and fifteen minute round. He said he didn’t care and we had to keep up with the foursome in front of us and to pick it up.
I get slow play. We weren’t holding anyone up and no one was pressing us. We all are 10-15 handicaps and are aware of slow play. This marshal needs to have a better rapport with golfers who drive by five other courses that are just a good as Viniterra.
Thank you for your review. I am truly sorry of your experience with our Marshal. I have spoken with him on presentation. Again, I am sorry and hopefully it didn't ruin your day entirely. Hope to see you soon.
Don't miss this one.
Lots of geographical variety and t- boxes to suit any handicap. Greens well guarded. Tough but not unfair. Always a bailout. Course shape is fantastic... like your own private country club.
Thank you for your review. We look forward to hosting you again soon.
Great course with great pace
Great course for a great value, worth the drive for sure. Somewhat of a challenging course
Very fun and in great shape
Course is in fantastic shape. Very reasonably priced. Only down was they don’t let you play through members so you can stuck behind extremely slow people. All in all great outing
Thank you for your review. We are sorry that you were stuck behind a slower group. Usually our groups move through in four hours. Again, sorry about the pace. See you soon.
