Gus Wortham Park Golf Course
About
Texas' oldest existing 18-hole track was originally built in 1908 to serve members of Houston Country Club. When the club found a new location in the 1950s, Gus Wortham bought the facility and opened it to the public with $60 annual dues. The city of Houston took over in 1973, and it's been one of the busiest courses in the state ever since.
The unique design features a trio of par 5s on holes 2-4, a rarity in golf. One of the better birdie opportunities is the 293-yard No. 9. On the back, one of Texas' signature par 3s awaits in the 250-yard No. 16.
Getting there : From I-45, take the Wakeside Blvd. Exit and travel 1 mile north to Capitol St.

The Best Value in Houston
You are not going to beat Gus Wortham in terms of value. Super interesting course with big elevation changes which is something you don’t get in Houston! Course was amazing great greens and bunkering would definitely recommend anybody coming to Houston to play here
Charged me full price for a no show when starter told me 30%
Starter told me since one guy bailed on our team time when I. Booked 4 that I’d be charged a 30% fee for the greens for no show. I said fine it is what it is but later find out I’m being charged 100% and full amount. Unreal
Great condition
I shoot average 75-78. This course is amazing after remodel. Greens and fairways are in fantastic shape, I was blown away for a public course. I rank it up there with Tour 18 as far as public courses. It's better than wildcat I believe. My GPS was not giving accurate readings on some holes, the guys I was playing with said it was because of the remodel as they added some length. But idk. Overall excellent course. New proshop being built, bring your own alcohol as they do not sell at course.
It is nice to see work being put back into the course although I would have liked a heads up that the fairways were aerated and the greens were punched. Fairways were extremely hard hopefully with some rain it will soften and fluff up the fairways.
Horrible customer service
When arriving for my 8am tee time I was asked if I wanted to share a cart or have my own. The employee than told me that I had to pay for a full cart fee because the other two had decided to pay for there own cart and one was walking. I told him that wasn’t my problem if I didn’t mind sharing. He made it clear I had to pay for a full cart fee. That is not the way it works. I like the course but I seriously doubt I’ll be back. Plenty of other courses in the Houston area!
Good course
Excellent Cousre.they need to not let people who walk on the course it slow the play a lot.
Exceeds Expectations
This course is short but shows it teeth around the greens. Deep bunkers and undulating elevated greens.
There are elevation changes, you could think you are in the hill country on some holes. Greens are fast and bunkers are very nice.
It is tricky, but this course was designed for wooden shafted clubs.
Was once home of Houston Country Club back in the 40’s.
You can feel this finishing #9 under the oaks where the rich folks once sipped their drinks.
The downside is that you won’t be sipping any drinks, they don’t have alcohol. Heavens, no back medication.
Also this gets a lot of play so there are un repaired balls marks and un raked bunkers. Not the fault of management, rather the goobers that play here.
Nice and good maintenance.
Very nice green. Little fast.
Good fairway. Clean surrounding green side.
Another Day Of Golf with deep bunkers and wide hazards
I like playing this course because it is reasonably priced thru my Golf Now Account. Also it is fairly easy to get to from my home.
A Good Track
New bunker sand provides better cushion to the concrete bottoms. Bunker coarse and heavy sand demands replacement bunker rakes-- wider rake with longer rake teeth and longer handle. For now, few people rake their foot prints and divot.
Come on Spring warmth to get fairway grass growing.
Overall a wonderful Experience!
A couple of Greens are still suffering from
The freeze but overall the course is in great shape. We had a Marshall who corrected us for driving in a fairway we weren’t supposed to. The guy came in HOT wind was drinking himself. Thankfully we were not drinking and were able to calm things down. My opinion! If you are Marshaling should be allowed to drink. Starter was super friendly so no knock on that part of age staff.
