Gus Wortham Park Golf Course

About
Texas' oldest existing 18-hole track was originally built in 1908 to serve members of Houston Country Club. When the club found a new location in the 1950s, Gus Wortham bought the facility and opened it to the public with $60 annual dues. The city of Houston took over in 1973, and it's been one of the busiest courses in the state ever since.
The unique design features a trio of par 5s on holes 2-4, a rarity in golf. One of the better birdie opportunities is the 293-yard No. 9. On the back, one of Texas' signature par 3s awaits in the 250-yard No. 16.
Getting there : From I-45, take the Wakeside Blvd. Exit and travel 1 mile north to Capitol St.

Speed greens
The greens will make you think about how you want to play your approach shots. If you land on the green the ball most of the time is going further than you think it will. The greens can be a bit deceiving with the breaks due to the speed so you need to pay close attention about where you you think the breaks are as you may just hit right through it. I hit a couple of 30 foot putts and I felt like I had barely hit the ball. It makes for great competition with your foursome and will make you think about it a little more before you putt. The short putts can also be difficult as I had a couple that I hit the lip of the cup and it rolled ten feet past the hole. Great greens!
Great Value, Great Course
$50 for a 9am Saturday tee time cannot be beat in Houston. Every fairway was in great shape. Greens rolled true. Only thing that would be better if they had tee times on weekdays after 5pm.
Great course Slowewww Play
Love this course, unfortunately no Marshall’s to keep the pace of play. Had a group in front of our 3some and no one on the tee box ahead of them they were just incredibly slow and would not let us play thru. Other than that beautiful course awesome layout and very challenging.
Challenging Greens
Think of this course like a little brother to Memorial Park GC. Greens are small and two putts are good. Difficult to get up and down for average players.
Exceeded my expectations
I was very surprised at how well taken care of this course was , greens , fairways and bunkers all in very good shape . There was a water jug with cold water every 2-3 holes along with a station to clean your golf balls , all at a good price , will definitely be coming back .
Not Long but Excellent Condition
Still hard to imagine how good this course is! Greens are phenomenal fairways are plush. This course is better than my private course Magnolia Creek at half the cost!!
Greatness
May be the best value in Houston would recommend this course to any Houstonian or traveler
